...

I got the day off, y'know?

They told me I could relax, let other people handle the heavy lifting until all this blows over. "You earned it!" they all told me. "If anyone needs to take some R&R today it's you!"

Yeah, alright.

Three ale and some sort of fancy glass-bottle liquor later, I guess I'm okay with it. I'll probably just go to bed early, deadbolt the door a couple' times over so they can't change their minds on me for the night-shift.

Whole day off... It's been awhile.

I mean, the team seems to be doing alright, surprisingly. Without me watching them I expected at the very least Sola or Lars to really mess things up, but they've both been standing pretty. Lars even has his chest out and back straight: Probably going to be up for a promotion soon, I think.

He's really setting the bar high. Loyal as a hound. That's lieutenant material right there, yes' sir.

The other one... Well, I don't know. I'm not sure she particularly likes our employer that much. Little bit of the "cats arching" impression going on there when they talk. No hissing, just a degree of tension. Palpable stuff though.

I doubt she'll get her head chopped off before I get back.

Meh...

I mean, that could happen. Literally, heads being lopped off is a very really possibility not to be ruled out considering the past-times of this city.

But I'm still pretty sure that won't happen.

Eighty percent sure.

Seventy-five, rounded up.

Best I can give you.

Woo-Ha... What a week. If my parents could see me now, I think they're be proud. Full-time job, people working under me in the chain-of-command, a well-respected title and some decent income. You'd almost think I was important- I'd "made it" y'know?

Not sure how well Gold, Silver, Copper and Bronze coins would fit the currency transfer towards a US Dollar assessment, but I get the feeling it's at least a somewhat fair number. I can buy food, bread and the like. None of my clothes have holes in them, though none of the clothes have modern conveniences like zippers or Velcro either.

I miss my jacket a bit. the poor thing.

I miss my car even more though.

The RV still smells like a piece of smoked jerky in all the worst ways, but I've got that parked in the stables. It's mostly intact; a little singed. I'm paying some craftsmen to work out a reliable way to tow that by horse or something, but they've all been so fascinated by the metal and the wheels I don't think it's going anywhere fast.

Shame really.

Heck of a view from this balcony though. The whole city looks tiny when you're up this high. Even the walls around the place look dwarfed a bit, forests and flatlands off in the distance there just far enough to make trees turn into specks.

Whole city might be celebrating down below. Cheers and shouts, a few impromtive parades bursting with songs and chants. Folks here have a real sense of culture, they get together and celebrate, talk to each other, know their neighbors' names and such.

It's so weird.

Before all this, I don't think I could have told you the last time I knew names of my neighbors. Outside of the awkward apartment complex mail-runs or crowded hallways, I certainly never talked to them or marched down the road singing songs about old legends and heroes.

Meh... Maybe I was missing out.

I think if someone misses-out long enough though, it becomes a portion of their identity.

For example, I think I'll probably just go to bed early.
