《Spaced Out》Chapter 24: Donuts

The sun rose, The familiar sun. Not some alien star in an Alien solar system light years away. The sun that Gabe grew up with. The room began to fill itself with the light of early morning. Gabe was fully awake he had fallen asleep on the couch with Froyia next him. Half her body dangled off the couch, Her body armor was casually thrown on the ground, And something Gabe learned last night was that she barely ever had any support for her breasts, especially while she slept. The shirt she had on was very tight fitting caressing her curved waist and displaying her true bust size even going as far as to showing the nubs of her nipples poking at the fabric. This would have been a perfect moment if she hadn’t been snoring.

She had been using Gabe’s lap as a pillow, Using his practice in moving quietly against Zara he successfully moved her head to the couch without waking her, with minor mistakes. He stretched his body and looked for VeVa.

“Vev!” He whispered. “Vev, Come out!”

On command, VeVa erupted from his hiding space in the shadow of a chair. “Good morning, Gabe.”

“Morning.” He replied before yawning. He started to head for the door. “I’m going to take a walk, Make sure she’s safe.” He pointed a thumb to the snoring woman on the couch.

The robot went over to Froyia and sat down in front. Gabe nodded and opened the door and took a step forward. He was greeted with a sideways fist into the nose. He recoiled grabbing his nose. He groaned in pain.

“Oh shit! I’m sorry!” A female with short black hair grabbed onto his shoulders. “I wasn’t expecting you to open the door!”

The commotion had woken up Froyia, she was holding a broken chair leg and in a defensive position for a swing at the intruder. Veva was also ready as it was charging the railgun for a quick shot. Gabe pulled his hands away from his nose, Blood slowly trickled down.

“Gabe!” Froyia called out to him, anyone could see that she was still mostly asleep, her movements were overly sluggish and it looked as those was barely conscious. “Are you okay!?”

“Fuck...yeah, Yeah.” He raised a hand and waved it a few times. “I was behind on getting punched, It was bound to happen sooner or later.”

Froyia was hesitant but she eventually dropped the chair leg. VeVa was much quicker to disregard his hostilities. Gabe took a seat on the couch and held his head backward. There was the silence that went on long enough to make sure that everyone was calm.

“You must be Gabe?” The black haired girl cocked her hip to favor one side, her arms crossed.

“Yeah, and you are?” Gabe raised his head slightly blood slowly came out his nose.

“Lyn, Lyn Capursi. My brother told me that you’re an uncle of some sort?”

“It’s entirely possible. If you have a family photo I might be able to confirm it.”

She rolled her eyes, “Saying I were to believe you and my brother that you’re really a part of our family, how are you even still alive?”

Gabe leaned forward, his nose already done dripping. “I’ll let you in on a family secret.” He looked left and right quickly, he held a hand up and motioned for her to get closer. When she was close enough he simply said. “Magic.”

“Are you kidding me?” She started to look extremely unamused. “I want a straight answer.”

“Fine. But promise me you won’t laugh at me when you hear it.”

“No promises.”

Gabe sighed, “I was trying to build a teleporter I forgot to put in a switch to stop the countdown...I somehow ripped a tiny hole in time and space and sorta slingshotted myself three hundred or so years into the future.”

She stifled a laugh with a cough. “Doing something without fully thinking it through, yup. You’re definitely a Capursi. Well, as far as I'm concerned at least.” She looked over at the wolf girl leaning on the window sill. “How long have you actually been you know, around in this time?”

Gabe shrugged, “I lost count, about a week or two? Maybe longer.” But since I answered a few of your questions, mind answering a few of mine?”

“Shoot.”

Gabe’s face took a serious emotion change. “How’s my...friend doing?”

“She’s doing fine, If we didn’t have her strapped down she probably would have broken more than someone’s hand. Last I checked she was awake.”

“What are we waiting for!? Let’s go to her!” Gabe started to go for the door when Lyn grabbed his arm, turning him back to face her.

“Hang on. I was told that you’ll be able to see her in time, But I had to bring you to Abel.”

“Fine whatever, let’s get it over with.” He was back into this feeling of aggression.

Abel was standing at the gates of the police station, waiting for Gabe. His hands in his pockets. The smell of fire lingered around the area. He had two armed men standing by his side.

“What do you want to be done?” Gabe was short and blunt.

“Good morning to you too.” He said tilting his hat.

“I’ll accept, whatever it is...on two conditions.”

“I see you’re no stranger to making hasty decisions. What're your terms?”

Gabe got closer to him so close the two were almost breathing on each other.

“Zara, I heard she was doing much better now. I want to see her now.”

“Done. Your other wish?”

“Have someone take Froyia to my ship, I’m going to need it.”

“Also done, Anything else? Slippers, coffee?” He chuckled. His smile faded the mood matched Gabe’s attitude. The eye contact the two made were practically always a test to see who would waiver first.“Keller, A big man, with too much power over us... I need him dead.”

“Why do you need me? You look like you guys could kill him yourselves.”

“I know it doesn’t look like much, but we have a lot of innocent lives, families. If I risk sending one of my men. He’ll know and he’ll come after us.”

“And you trust me enough to kill him?”

Abel took a step back putting his hands on his hips. “I don’t trust you even a lick. But you came with aliens, that’s enough information for me to know that you aren’t on his side.”

“Consider him dead. Now, where is Zara?”

“The donut shop. I take it you know the way?”

Gabe smirked and turned away after taking five steps he turned back around to a question. “Yesterday, Lucas said it was dangerous during the night, why?”

“‘Suppose you wouldn’t know, would you?” He took a deep breath and exhaled. “Alright, The Locust, they’re nocturnal hunters. They’re the reason Earth went to shit.”

Gabe crossed his arms once more. “Where’d they come from?”

Abel shrugged. “Wasn’t born yet. They’re old, probably closer to your time.”

“I see…” Gabe walked away leaving the man to do whatever he was doing.

He approached the double glass doors and pushed inside. Seven armed guards that stood at least twenty feet away from Zara. She was hysterical, she thrashed about strapped to a table. Blood was puddled around her, compared to all the puddles around, her blood was the least. She hissed, snarled and cursed at everything in the room.
