Chapter 1
Welcome Everybody! Hope you all are doing great! Thank you for reading my story. I hope you all will have a good time reading my new series. Please let me know any part of the story isn’t perfect or boring. Because your reviews will really help me to get better and give my best. I personally haven’t been to Kyoto so please mind if I am wrong at times. Sorry to take your time, so without wasting any time, let’s start.
----o----
Once, in a small town near Kyoto, Japan, lived three friends. Yuuta, Hiro and Shiho. All three of them were very close and are very popular because of how close those three are.
Sasaki Yuuta, is one of the toppers in the class and is good at sports. He is very good looking, is a foodie and loves to travel. Loves his childhood friend, Shiho.
Sato Hiro, is a topper along with Yuuta and are also rivals. Only academic rivals. Hiro is also the captain of the football team for their school. He likes drawing and is also a storywriter.
Ogawa Shiho, is average in studies compared to Hiro & Yuuta but is very good at drawing. She is beautiful and is famous because of it. She goes to a different school. She likes to cook and loves to hang out with friends.
On a Sunday afternoon, Yuuta and Shiho were hanging out at Yuuta’s house and were playing some video games.
“Ugh! Why are you so good at it?” complains Yuuta.
“I don’t know. I guess I am just too good at it?” replies Shiho showing off.
Both look at each other and laugh.
“So, how is everything going on at school?” asks Yuuta.
“Pretty good!” replies Shiho. “This week, two boys confessed me!”

“Then?” asks Yuuta curiously.
“Then? I rejected them.” replies Shiho.
“Why?” comes another question from Yuuta.
“Why you ask? I don’t even know who they were. How should I accept them if I don’t know who they are?” replies Shiho furiously.
“Oh I see…” replies Yuuta.
Yuuta starts to look out of the window. Just then suddenly, he asks Shiho,
“Well, want to go out to the riverbank?”
“Ok!” replies Shiho excitedly.
Both leave the house and start to walk towards the lake. Suddenly around the corner of the road, they spot Hiro walking towards them. Hiro spots both of them and runs towards them.
“Hi guys! Heading somewhere?” asks Hiro curiously.
“Hi Hiro! Yes, we were heading towards the riverbank, want to join?” asks Yuuta.
“Of course! But are you guys are okay with it?” asks Hiro.
“Why would we be bothered by our very own Hiro? Of course we are okay with it!” says Shiho.
“Ok, so, let’s go!” says Yuuta.
All three of them are walking at the riverbank. A beautiful sunset and with it, three best friends walking by the riverbank.
“It’s really good to walk by the riverbank while being with you guys. I am really lucky to have friends like you! Thank you for being my friend and supporting me during my good and bad times.” says Yuuta. Shiho says,
“Yes! Thank you for having my back too during my bad and good times.”
Hiro interrupts and says,
“Me too guys! Thank you taking care of me whenever I am with you guys. Thank you very much! I just couldn’t…”
Just then, Hiro stops and thinks about something.
“What happened Hiro? Is something wrong?” asks Shiho.
“Yeah, I just never asked you guys, what do you guys want to become when you grow up?” asks Hiro.

Yuuta jumps with excitement and shouts,
“Me first! Can I say first?!” Shiho and Hiro look at each other and laugh heartily. Shiho says,
“Yes, you can go first!”
“I want to be a famous mangaka and publish my very own manga!”
Hiro looks at Yuuta surprised and excited and asks him, “Can I also join your team?”
Yuuta says very excitedly,
“OF COURSE!”
Just then Shiho interrupts and says,
“Now it’s my turn!”
Hiro and Yuuta agree and Shiho says,
“I too want to join a manga team. So, can I also join in?”
Yuuta and Hiro look at each other and give Shiho a huge warm smile.
“YES!” they both reply at the same time.
All laugh and go to their houses. Yuuta goes in his room and changes up and gets ready for dinner. Yuuta’s mother calls him for dinner. All are at the dinner table.
“So Yuuta, how was your day?” asks his mom.
“It was great! First we went to the riverbank and walked by it for some time. Then Hiro asked us what we were going to become when we grow up.”
“Hiro also joined you?” asks Hina, his older sister.
“Yes, we met Hiro on the way, so he asked if we were heading somewhere. So we invited him with us too!” replies Yuuta. “Yeah. Then I told both of them that I want to become a famous mangaka and publish my very own manga. And guess what? Shiho and Hiro are also going to become mangaka and were asking me if they can join my team.”
“That’s great to hear!” replies his mom.
After dinner, Yuuta goes in his room and starts writing just when he looks out of his window.
‘Such a wonderful moon!’ says Yuuta to himself.
Then he gets off his chair and starts daydreaming. Just when his phone rings. He looks at his phone and sees that, Shiho was calling!
‘Oh! Shiho is calling me! She called me?! It’s like a dream! I was just thinking of her! Well, even if she is in any problems, she still called me in the first place! But wait!’
“Why is she calling so late at night?! It’s almost 10 pm!” Yuuta says.
Then, he picks up the call.
“Hello Yuuta! Sorry to call you so late at night.” says Shiho on the phone. Yuuta replies,
“No! No, it’s fine! You have any problem?”
“Yes, um… I was wondering if you could meet me at the park right now?” asks Shiho.
“O-ok! But, is there something wrong?” replies Yuuta.
“No, nothing’s wrong. I just want to meet up and tell you something.” says Shiho.
“Oh, ok. I’ll leave now. See you at the park!” replies Yuuta.
“Ok. See you then.” says Shiho and hangs up.
Yuuta starts to panic and leaves the home. He starts running towards the park. 10pm, he is at the park. He enters the park but no one is there. He sits on a nearby bench waiting for Shiho. Just when, his mind starts rushing through thoughts like,
“Ugh! Why did she call me out so late at night?! Is something wrong? What does she wants to tell me?! If the situation is good enough, should I confess to her? Or should I just pass it this time and try again some other time?”
He got sweaty. Just when Shiho comes and asks,

8 199Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image
