He smacked his lips while salivating with greed as he was looking at the 2nd rank monster core.

The fact that he didn’t immediately pounce towards it like a hungry wolf after knowing its usefulness in itself was a miracle.

The system didn’t just identify the 2nd rank monster core, it also fed Cain information about its origin and usefulness.

He knew from the system that a monster core was a condensed form of spiritual energy. It was the thing that separated a wild and mundane monster from an evolved one.

Not only it was used as a container to store energy, but the monster's core also contained their soul.

Aside from that, Cain also learned that he was capable of absorbing the energy within a monster core to level up and further increase his strength.

He didn’t want to wait any longer. He wanted to reach level 2 as soon as possible to complete the 2nd mission.

Only by completing the 2nd mission would he have a chance to complete the 1st mission and prevent the system from erasing him.

Although he was reborn as a rat, one of the most loathsome creatures there was, he didn’t want to die. He still had hope that one day he would be able to regain his human form.

The warm current didn’t stop flowing ceaselessly through his tiny body.

All of the body parts that the warm current has reached, seemed to have been strengthened tremendously, whether it was his internal organs or bones.

Nonetheless, it wasn’t painful at all. He felt very comforted and refreshed as if someone was massaging him.

A few minutes later, the 2nd Rank monster core in his hand slowly shrank and disappeared.

At the same time, the warm current stopped flowing through his body.

After the warm current ceased, Cain let out a long breath. Having been nourished by this wave of energy, he felt that his body had become lighter and several times stronger.

After absorbing the 2nd Rank monster core and successfully completing the second mission, Cain didn’t immediately leave.

Instead, he went to search the corpses on the ground to see if he could find anything useful and any clue that could tell him about this world.

Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to find anything useful on them.

“Ohh well, I can’t be too greedy.” He said after coming out empty-handed.

“It’s getting dark. I need to find a safe place to crash.” He added as he looked at the night sky.

However, as Cain was about to leave, he noticed a small ring on the finger of one of the dismembered hands on the ground.

The ring was simple and unadorned, but elegant at the same time. It was similar to a thimble.

From its outer appearance, it was completely mediocre, and it looked to be made of brass.

Its surface was smooth and slippery; it was obvious with only a single glance that the ring was quite old. Besides this, nothing else could be discerned about it.

As Cain fixated his gaze upon the small ring, the system’s voice suddenly rang out within his mind.

He saw an azure blur flying towards him like a bolt of lightning. It was a silver arrow. It was emanating a cold light that made Cain’s heart turn into ice.

As the arrow hit the ground, it created a large gaping hole as it buried deep within the ground. If he was a second late, he would have been impaled and skewed into the ground.

“What the fuck.” Cain blurted out with a frightened expression on his face.

At the same time, he didn't dare to waste anytime as he turned into a flash and fled deeper into the mountain range at the highest speed he could muster without looking back.

“Holy smoke! What kinda speed and reflex is that?!” In the next second, a voice filled with astonishment and shock suddenly echoed out within the forest.

“Don’t let it get away, that little beast still has Elder Lei’s Spatial Ring in its possession. We need to recover it before it went deeper into the forest.” Another voice anxiously added.
