《Delving Into the Unknown》Chapter 7

Logan awoke to someone roughly shaking his shoulder. There was a woman's voice calling out to him this time. Logan opened his eyes and saw the person who was shaking him was Eris. Crimson stained her forhead and ran down the side of her cheek. Seeing the panicked state of her shook Logan to his core. She was a composed individual with an almost regal air about her. Eris didn't appear to be the sort of person to let her emotions get the best of her.
Eris breathed a sigh of relief when Logan regained consciousness. When she saw his head hit the deck when the torrent of sea water assaulted the ship, Eris feared the worst. Fortunately, the crew's captain didn't notice any serious injuries anywhere on Logan's body while pulling him to his feet by his arms. A sudden sharp pain dug into her left side. Eris bit her tongue to stifle a cry of agony, laughing on the inside at herself. It would seem she did not possess the same amount of luck as her subordinate. But her own injuries were the least of her concerns at the moment. "Are you alright? You're bleeding!"
Logan was greatly troubled after seeing his captain' injuries. "There's no need to fuss over me. I've survived far worse than this. The hurricane has nearly passed. Charlie managed to steer us close to land." Eris put a bloodstained hand on his shoulder in a friendly gesture. " We would have lost Martin if you were not with us. Thank you. That was well done." As unpleasant as the older man could be, Martin was a vital part of the crew.
Simon threw down the anchor to hold the ship in place while Charlie and Gimoaldo raced down below the deck to check on the condition of the rowboats. Eris turned her attention away from Logan for a moment to further assess the damage of the maindeck. Large pieces of the railing were missing. But what was the most worrisome was the state of the main mast. The wooden pillar was snapped in half and the crow's nest was in shambles. They were able to save the sails from any significant damage by pulling them down when the storm hit. But there was nothing they could've done to prevent any other damages. They had no choice but to stop at this unknown island and attempt to repair the Tiger Lily.

Aileen tied a cloth around Martin's neck to serve a makeshift sling for his arm. Martin grumbled complaints under his breath about having a broken arm. "At least it was a clean break. Be glad you're not dead." "And I suppose I should rejoice that we're stuck on a godforsaken island in the middle of no where with the ship in this state? Spare me, Aileen." Martin scoffed at the ship's doctor. Aileen slapped his shoulder in response to his complaints. "Goddamnit, what'd you do that for," he howled in pain from Alien's blow. No one would expect it, but Aileen can hit very hard. "Stop your bellyaching already I don't have time for your whining. I have work to do." Aileen knew she Eris needed medical attention next. "Captain," Aileen called to get her attention. When she turned her head to look at the older woman, Aileen gestured for her to approach. "Let's have a look at you. Logan, you seem well enough. Go around the ship and see what you can salvage." Logan nodded and began his task assigned to him by the ship's doctor.
Aileen initially worried that this young man would be a burden aboard the Tiger Lily when Eris asked her to look out for him. But during these few weeks, she could admit to herself that Logan proved her wrong through his ability to catch on to things quickly and his willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Those are both qualities Aileen had appreciated in others. As soon as Logan was out of earshot, Aileen got started with the wound treatment. She felt around the captains ribs for internal injuries. "There's pain when you breathe, yes?" "That's right." You're ribs are cracked for certain. I need to wrap your torso tightly to keep them in place while you heal." "Thank you." Aileen shook her head while proceeding to clean the captain's deep gashes. "You seem as cool as a cucumber to the rest of the world, but you don't fool me one bit, young lady." Eris smiled playfully at the commentary of her subordinate. " I am not certain I know what you mean." "I'm talking about that boy. You risked life and limb to keep him alive after he hit his head last night in the hurricane. That's how you yourself in this state. You've never risked yourself like that before." "Of course I've risked for my subordinates." "Not like that you haven't. What do you want from him?" Eris blinked, clearly caught off guard by the question. "I beg your pardon? I simply want to give him a new life." "That may be what you want to present on the surface. But there's more to it, isn't there?" Aileen tightly wrapped the medical cloth around the captain's torso. "We docked at that boy's village a few times before taking him in," Aileen noted aloud. "They had an excellent smith in that village." "Yes. Among other things, I'm sure." "What are you getting at, Aileen? If you have something to say, go ahead." The growing tension between the two women had become so thick in the air, it was nearly suffocating. "My question simply remains the same. I am not the one being evasive of the two of us, captain," Aileen finished tying off the bandage," What does he have that you believe you can benefit from?" Eris's stormy grey eyes darkenened. For a mere instant, her usual soft expression turned to one of anger before being composed again."Thank you, Aileen. That will be all for now. And for your own sake, I do advise that you do not forget your position or mine. Or what I did for you three years ago."

As if he didn't notice the intense energy in the air, Charlie came dashing towards Eris and Aileen. "Captain! The row boats are in mint condition and we also found some spare sails if we need them!" Eris smiled at Charlie as if nothing happened, patting him on the back. "Excellent work, Charlie. We needed some good news. And I commend you for steering us through that wicked storm. We may not be here without you. Thank you." Charlie grinned widely at the praise and acknowledgement he received. "It was nothing! I have a feeling we can fix up the Tiger Lily and be on our way in no time!" Eris chuckled at the teenager's optimistic outlook. "Its a comfort to know that not even the most destructive of storms can dampen your spirits. Come, let's finish salvaging and make arrangements to begin repairs." Charlie and Eris walked away from the area and left Aileen seething in silence.

Though their power seemed irresitable, a band of heroes managed to steal the knowledge of summoning rituals and worlds from them and created, "The Millenial Summoning." A powerful magic that would bring forth a being from another world with the power to change the world forever. Teaching prayers and invocations that blessed humanities legions and began to push back the demons, founding of the "The Church of the Spoken Word" rose to power and a stalemate was reached. Two thousand years ago, that stalemate was broken by the second casting of "The Millenial Summoning," and the arrival of "The First Sorceress," who taught humanity the basics of magic and enchanting. With the power of the Sorceress, the mages, and the priests the tide turned and the Demonic hordes began to be shoved back, signaling hopes of a golden age for mankind. One thousand years ago, the hopes of final victory and a new dawn for mankind were dashed by traitors who slew the participants of the ritual and took their places, using the ritual to bring forth a godlike being from the demons home world, "The Demon King," for no human knew his name, erased millenia of growth reducing humanity to barely a fragment of its former glory.
