Claire lived a normal life until middle school, she was a happy kid, her family was relatively well-off, they treated her very well, and she had many friends. But then she began to stand out from the crowd, she was smart, beautiful and she was good at sports. When she was twelve years old, she discovered archery and after three years practicing with the bow every single day. Claire became the best archer in the city, and then she was well-known in the city thanks to her skills and beauty. And then her problems started to appear.

Claire always had two major weaknesses; she was too gullible; she always believed in other people’s words. Her second weakness: she liked silent and mysterious guys. The idea of someone like that opening his heart only to Claire was very charming in her eyes. Thanks to those factors, she made the first of the three things she regrets until this day. She began to date a guy who she had never talked before, just because he said that he liked her and because she never saw him talking with her friends or with many people. Whenever she saw him, he looked like someone thinking about something profound and didn't intend to share his thoughts with others; he was a ‘mysterious guy.’

However, their relationship didn’t last long. On their first date, that guy convinced her to take their relationship to the next level; he said that he wanted to connect with her on a deep level. Claire thought he was being sincere, but he wasn’t. Her first time hadn’t been like she had imagined it would be, her boyfriend was too focused on himself, and she didn’t feel that good. She described her first time with a single word: messy.

On the next day, Claire noticed something had changed. People who she had never talked to were laughing at her. Her boyfriend was doing the same, and he was smiling as if he had obtained what he wanted, with only that, Claire understood everything. That guy only saw her as an object, she was a trophy to him, and now he was bragging to his small group of friends that he had been the first one to have that trophy.

For one week, Claire felt humiliated, but more than anything, she felt mad, really mad. Not even her closest friends or teachers talked to her; they never saw her so angry, they had never seen her angry. But after one week, that guy tried to talk to her. But he didn’t have any chance to say anything, at the moment he stopped in front of her, she literally kicked his balls with all her strength. That guy had to stay in a hospital for a week, and not a single person in that school tried to mess with her ever again.

For four years, Claire stayed away from any kind of relationship with men. But after teaching archery for a year, to her lazy cousin Martin, she concluded not all guys were assholes. She began to date a model in college; he was well-known as a womanizer. But since he said that he was tired from those shallow relationships and he didn’t try to make her spread her legs on the first date, Claire concluded that he was better than her first boyfriend. However, he was just a bit better. After he slept with her, the next morning, she saw him with another girl. He didn’t try to spread any gossips about her, but that didn’t make her feel any better.

Claire really wanted to kick that guy’s ass, but she didn’t want to make a commotion, and she couldn’t get involved in fights since she was constantly competing in archery tournaments. So, she just suppressed her rage. Until Martin laughed at her when she told him what her dream was, she wanted to be an elementary school teacher. Kids were the perfect beings for Claire, they were cute, obedient, and they would never betray her trust. Martin thought she was joking, so he laughed for ten minutes straight. It was just too weird. She was one of the best archers in the country, after all. It didn’t make any sense. Thanks to that, Claire exploded, she said that she hated him and that she never wanted to see him again. And indeed, she never saw him again…

After that, Claire decided to dedicate her life to her dream and archery. It would be hard to do both at the same time, but as long as she puts her heart and mind in both, things would work out eventually. But her luck wasn’t that good, a famous and handsome archer was on vacation in the city and decided to visit the training center for archers in the city. Immediately, Claire picked his interest, and since he was famous, rich, handsome, and not a single woman had refused him until that moment. He decided to be a little more… assertive when he saw Claire alone. He touched her boobs, and in the next moment, she broke his arm and literally kicked his ass. Claire wasn’t interested in romance anymore.

But thanks to her actions, Claire had been banished from archery competitions. That guy was that influential. Her friends in the training center knew what truly had happened, so she continued to train with them, even though she wouldn’t compete anymore. Two weeks after that, she met Ethan.

Although she wasn’t a teenager anymore, mysterious men guys still made Claire’s heart beat faster. She decided to give up on romance, but you can’t win against your heart. But Ethan, the last mysterious guy she met, was just too damn boring. Arthur, the old man who always cleaned and organized their equipment, was complaining about backache. So, he decided to hire someone to do the difficult job for him and that someone was Ethan.

On his first day of work, Arthur made Ethan introduce himself, but he just said his name. People laughed because they thought he was joking, but Claire noticed that he wasn’t interested in being friends with anyone. When Arthur was introducing the other athletes to him, he was looking at them, but at the same time, it seemed that he wasn’t seeing anyone in front of them. Like other people didn’t matter to him.

Ethan was a quiet kid; it was almost creepy, even to Claire. He never called anyone by their names; he was always saying, “yes sir” and “yes ma’am,” even to those who were younger than him. Although his actions and personality were questionable, his job was impeccable; their equipment was always clean and ready to be used. He never slacked off and never refused any job, Ethan was attentive, and even after six months, he didn’t make a single mistake and never missed a day of work. Not even in summer break when other kids of his age were fooling around. He was always quiet, thinking about something no one could tell what it was, doing his own thing. He wasn’t a bad kid, but he was wasting his youth living like that. So, Claire decided to teach him how to use the bow, it was fun to teach other people, and that was one of the reasons she wanted to be a teacher.

However, Ethan wasn’t interested. He blatantly refused her lessons even when she showed her biggest smile, after one week of insistency, Ethan, showing a fed-up expression, for the first time, looked at her and said:

“Why should I learn this? Why are you doing this anyway? Do you want to hunt some bears or deer? I’m pretty sure a shotgun is more practical.”

After that, Ethan left without waiting for her reaction or answer. He really pissed her off; people practice sports because it is fun and helps them to stay in shape. A person doesn’t need a profound reason to practice for hours and hours, something they like to do. Claire didn’t try to teach him anymore, but her colleagues tried. However, he politely refused every single time. He showed his annoyed face only a single time, and that pissed her even more.

Claire decided to leave him alone, but by coincidence, she noticed something strange, the cameras in the building were always aimed at him. Even though he never did anything special or questionable. It seemed like he was being watched, but why would someone watch him? He was just a quiet kid working on a part-time job.

Claire decided to ask Arthur about Ethan, but even he didn’t know much about the kid. He only knew where he was living and that he lived alone. It was probably a coincidence, and Claire soon forgot about that because she graduated from college and began to work as a teacher. She never felt so happy in her entire life, doing what he liked to do, surrounded by cute and sweet kids. She felt so blissful that she even decided to call his cousin Martin to say that she was sorry and that she forgave him. But Martin never answered her calls, even after four years, he was still angry at her. But they would eventually meet again; she decided to visit him after the end of the semester. But she never had the chance, because the monsters appeared.

Even though the city was filled with monsters, Claire didn’t panic. She only panicked when she understood her parents had disappeared; she killed hundreds of rats easily with the bow she found inside her home, but Claire felt horrified when she didn’t find her parents where they worked.

The city was filled with monsters, and thousands of people had disappeared overnight, but Claire kept her head cool and decided to look for other survivors. She could see blood everywhere, the city had become a battlefield, the first thing which came to her mid were her students, and she decided to look for them.

Claire went to the school where she worked and then she looked for the documents of the students, there she found her students’ addresses. The city was too big, and she was getting tired of killing monsters, so she decided to look for the students who lived nearby the school. On the first day, she found three students, but she also went to other three houses where her students lived. However, in those places, she only found blood and pieces of flesh. Claire felt shivers as she imagined the worse, but she didn’t stop. For a week, she searched for survivors, but she gave priority to the school’s students.

Thanks to Martin, she knew how that system worked, and she welcomed the skill and the strength she obtained. But she was a single woman trying to protect ten kids. After one week, she was exhausted, wounded, and she only found ten kids. She felt some stares coming from a few houses as she walked around the city looking for food, but none of those people showed themselves or tried to help even when the kids were with her. Claire already knew human beings were selfish and disgusting, but she never imagined they could be so pathetic.

When that week ended, Claire decided to stop looking for survivors and the other kids, just like her parents, most of the population of the city had disappeared. She needed to find a safe place where she and kids could rest; the school wasn’t safe anymore. But after fighting so much to protect the school, the smell of the monsters she killed in front of that place, attracted other dangerous beasts. Claire killed them all with ease, but she had a hard time against the mutant eagle and the anaconda. She couldn’t retreat because the kids were inside the school, and those two monsters could easily destroy a few walls and the entire building. So, Claire fought against them from up close. Even though her strength laid in ranged attacks, the monsters already knew the kids’ presence, and because of that, she couldn’t lure them away from the school.

In the end, Claire managed to kill both monsters, but on the last attack, the anaconda spat poison toward her. Claire couldn’t dodge, she didn’t have much MP, and so she couldn’t cancel the activation of the focus skill. As soon as the monster died, she cleaned her arm where the poison had hit. There was no pain, and Claire sighed in relief. She returned to the kids and decided to rest for half an hour, and then she would look for a safe place. But, she began to feel a burning pain in her arm, and then she collapsed.

For the next few days, the pain in her arm didn’t let her stay conscious for more than a few seconds. Sometimes, she would wake up and see the kids crying, and sometimes she would wake up and see someone talking to the kids. She didn’t know how much time had passed, but she sensed that someone was carrying her in some kind of vehicle, the kids were also there. But fortunately, someone was protecting them. She tried to grab her bow, but she didn’t have the strength, and soon she would lose consciousness again.

The last time she woke up, she heard the sound of something big ahead of them, and then she saw someone patting Frank’s head saying it would kill a few monsters to open the path. That person looked a lot like Ethan, but she was light-headed, there was no way Ethan would help someone. He was a selfish brat who didn’t like to interact with other people.
