For the next few days, I hunted the monsters in the city but outside the walls. After the new survivors arrived, using those survivors’ evolution coins, they increased the length of those walls. Now, each side of the walls was five hundred meters long. Since those walls were constantly receiving damage from monsters, they also made the metal of the walls capable of absorbing MP to repair itself. Every day hundreds of survivors would walk above the walls to give their MP.

Even though most of the city had become a jungle, I didn’t find any new monster. I only found mutated animals, but I found a few spiritual plants, and just like Jerry said, a few monsters dropped items. But I only obtained low-quality potions, and even though I killed thousands of monsters, I got just a few dozen potions.

In any case, to see if the people inside the walls could become eventual enemies, I decided to move around and see their reactions. Most of them ignored me, but a few big and rough-looking guys looked at me like they were ready to battle. Those were the General underlings, I was sure of it.

The number of survivors protecting the statue also increased; twelve survivors were protecting the statue now. Every eight hours, the survivors protecting the statue changed, and to my surprise, Sandra, Lucius, and Sabrina were among them. Each one of them protecting the statue for eight hours. It seemed Sandra really made Harry the representative of our area. In any case, even though I didn’t accept Jerry’s deal yet, none of those twelve survivors stopped me from using the statue.

Thanks to that, I saw myself in a dilemma. It was evident that they wanted to keep an eye on me, but their offer was too good to be refused. Using the memory stone, I could bring a lot of survivors to this place and quickly obtain a lot of evolution coins. I didn’t even have to look for them that actively. While traveling around the country, I was bound to find other survivors. Besides, become an enemy of this place would make things difficult. I could always defeat the survivors protecting the statue to use it. But next time, a whole army would be waiting for me near the statue.

‘I guess it will be better if I do this small job for them… I just have to bring some survivors here, and they will stay out of my way.’

“Ok.”

“Wait a minute, Ethan,” Jerry raised his right hand. “Don’t try to oppose the General again, alright? You have many reasons to hate us, but he did everything because he wanted to protect our country. And he is a man who will not hesitate and destroy any threat. So, please, don’t antagonize him anymore.”

“I don’t care about him. As long as he stays out of my way, what the thinks or does are irrelevant.”

I teleported back to the entrance and headed toward Harry’s office, with the help of the survivors of another group, they managed to create a similar building near where Jerry’s office was situated. Thanks to this building and the walls, all the coins they obtained in the battle against the dragon had been used.

Harry’s office was on the last floor of the building; there I saw him reading a lot of papers. Rose and Sarah also were there,

“Hi, Ethan,” Harry smiled. “Do you want to talk about something? Let’s sit down; this will be a good change of pace for me.”

“There’s no need; this will be quick. I want to be part of one of the search teams.”

Harry studied me with his right hand covering his mouth, then he looked at Rose, but she just shrugged. Sarah sighed because she knew I wasn’t making a request.

“Alright, then…” Harry declared, and then he picked up a few papers. “Charles, his girlfriend, and his sister will go to the northwest; you will go to the west. Your team will be you and…”

“I’m going alone.”

“… No, you are not going alone,” Harry crossed his arms and looked at me, showing a severe expression. “This is too dangerous, and as the representative of our group, it’s up to me to decide that.”

“I’m giving you the chance to help you because I don’t want to kill anyone to use the statue. I’m going alone, and this isn’t up for debate, but if you insist, then you don’t leave me no choice but to force my way and kill anyone who tries to stop me.”

Harry looked at Rose again, and again she shrugged. Sarah also repeated her actions and just sighed.

“… Come on, man! Cut me some slack!” Harry said after a long sigh, and then he dropped his serious façade. “What will happen if you die? I don’t want to feel responsible for your eventual death.”

“I’m not going to die. Besides, this isn’t your decision. I’m just saying this to you, for the sake of appearances. Not only that, you are by far the representative with less influence here. You are young, and you are not exactly smart, if that isn’t enough, you don’t have enough manpower. I’m being selfish here, but I’m also doing you a favor by going alone.”

“He is already fully aware of this,” Rose massaged her forehead. “But even if that is the case, he doesn’t want to put you at risk much less to make you travel alone for such a long time. Despite everything, Ethan, we think of you as a friend. You don’t talk about you, nor do you ask about us, but we will be ready to talk. When you decide to talk to us about everything, we will be ready to talk to you.”

“You are a good guy, Ethan,” Sarah smiled. “You may try to fool yourself, but you did everything you did because you wanted to help, you wanted to prevent deaths.

“I thought all these battles made you guys become survivors, but I guess you guys became poets… anyway, let’s finish this.”

“…man, you are a pain in the ass.” Harry covered his face with both hands. “At least, let Claire go with you.”

“Are you joking? She is the last person I would like to work with. Besides, she has to take care of the kids. Or do you want to cause problems to the kids and me as well?”

“Alright, fine!” Harry got massaging his forehead. “You can go alone, but I want to hear your reports every night! We will give you the memory stones for it.”

“I will write a brief summary of my actions and make someone give to you once a week.”

“I give up… I’m too tired for this.” Harry left the room.

After that, Rose and Sarah explained the job to me. It seemed that I also had to analyze the survivors and judge if they could be trusted. They said that I had to observe them for at least a week before bringing them to our city.

I left Harry’s office, and then I headed toward the entrance of the building, but something stopped me. Something invisible grabbed me from behind.

“What do you want, Claire?”

“How did you know?” Claire’s voice trembled.

Claire’s words resonated inside my mind, perhaps was that I wanted? To be normal? Maybe it was impossible for me, but I couldn’t let my origins dictate my actions, I could act like an average guy if I wanted, and like a regular guy, I decided to take advantage of that moment.

“Remember, you are the one who started this.”

‘Things will get really awkward after this… it will be better if I just disappear, she probably will regret this tomorrow.’

That said, I couldn’t just leave without saying anything to her. Since I was really dumb, I just wrote two words in a small paper.

Claire let the note feel on the floor, and she began to kick it until she could barely stand. That day, the survivors in that building had evacuated the building because they thought a monster was attacking their new home.
