《Young bloods (WIP)》Chapter 5: Piroshky Squad

After the Boss rescued and took us in, we were then put into a school taught and ran by mostly kids a few years older than us. They trained us, taught us knowledge of the old world and showed us the horrors, the depravity of adult men and women and what they could and had done to those like us. The actions in those documentaries, movies, books and films mirrored what many of us had experience for ourselves.
So-called leaders prostituted their people to wars and abuse. They destroyed families, culture and economies; their hands dyed red by the blood of the children, the families trampled by their lecherous motivations and diabolical war machines.
Trained and taught by the Revenants or rather “young bloods” from their war-torn world, we were going to build a better world for us and for the later generations, a world when there shall be no more wars waged over territory, a world where boys and girls can frolic around for all of eternity.
…
“Sabotage, eliminate the opposing forces or plant the explosives. Get it done.” The announcer said as we ran toward one of the two main objectives.
“Stay close, weapon tight and keep your eyes peeled for any enemies.” Nikita, my point man said as we navigated the battlegrounds.
“Contact, enemy at twelve.” I motioned for my marksman as she got into position and took aim at the enemy sharpshooter.
“He’s down. I’ll take overwatch on the bombsite.” Lilya said, mounting her gun on a sandbag overlooking the battlements.
“Alright, you two with me. You stay and watch Lilya’s back. Move!” I ordered them,
We carefully made our way through the battlements, disarming several mines and booby traps set by the defenders before reaching the heavily guarded bomb site. From Lilya’s overwatch, she could see that the remaining 4 of the defenders were holed up at the bombsite with machinegun emplacements and portable shields. There was no way that we would be able to sneakily take them out due to being spotted by their marksman earlier before Lilya took them out.

“Alright, let’s go loud then,” I said, motioning to my men to cook a bundle of grenades while I tossed 2 smoke grenade impairing the machine gunner’s vision, who immediately began to spray lead downrange.
“Now! Toss the grenades comrades.”
The bundle of scatter bombs exploded, injuring several of them and scattering them for us to make a pass.
“They’re scattered, lay down suppressive fire and set the explosives.”
I shouted as my support sprayed lead with her machinegun.
“Move in! Go go! Lilya, cover our backs. You two plant the bombs now, we have 30 seconds left, move!”
“Bomb set!”
They then began to set up the explosives as I pushed the mobile cover and mounted the machine gun emplacement on it, sending toward Nikolai.
“Lilya do you have eyes on the target?!”
Then suddenly an explosion erupted around the sniper nest that Lilya was situated in and I concluded that both of them had perished.
“Fuckers! Kill them all!” I yelled aloud as my men began to set up defences against the now pushing defenders.
“Sweep the area, and set up offensive ordnances,” Nikita said, quickly assembling the trophy stand as Niko repositioned to the corner of the contested area overlooking the two other insertion points. I rushed atop the balcony overlooking the three insertion points.
“Two minutes, the bomb will detonate in two minutes.”
“Then we’ll defend the bomb for 2 minutes.”
An intense firefight then occurred as the remaining defenders close in on our position.
They had attempted to try a similar tactic to us with the use of smokes and scatter bombs. However, their effort was all for nought as the trophy stand destroyed the cluster bomb and I managed to pick off the thrower with my SKS.

However, as soon as the smoke cleared, I noticed a wire flung into the air and Nikita immediately punched me off the balcony as the explosive went off killing her and charing half my jacket.
“Nikolai, Nikita’s down, only you and I left. Let’s give them hell, comrade!” I said, grabbing the AK from Nikolai’s waist and racked the slide.
“Ura, brother.” We began firing as the remaining defenders rushed our positions with machinegun fire and flashbangs.
We put up a good fight against them but lost our edge when another satchel charge flew into our position and blew our cover sky high.
However, their time was up and the bomb exploded as three rushed toward the ticking explosive.
“Matchpoint! Russian Terrutan wins!” The announcer said as our team and their team shook hands, concluding the activity.
…
A hard punch across the jaw made me fell on the ground as the Boss lectured me on how I had failed greatly in this war game match.
“Are you fucking serious? Your entire squad got wasted over a few satchel charges. If your positioning was better, Lilya and Vasilya wouldn’t die so quickly. Furthermore, you wanna be American Rambo or something?! Why the fuck were you yelling?”
I was exceptionally reprimanded by the Boss for yelling; she hated the action due to it wasting one’s breath while shooting as well as giving away your position when in battle if the weapons were suppressed.
“Comrade Yulia, please! He’s been injured enough!” Para-medic said, tossing herself in front of me as Yulia was about to hammer me with her AK.
“Step aside dorogaya, he needs to learn, he needs to know that the Terrutan privateers won’t be just using our tech, but theirs also. If he can’t fight against a buncha kid with c4s and machineguns how can’t he fight against adults with Bolters and Elemental launchers? Heroic sacrifice doesn’t mean shit, even if they won, losing their lives is a lost on us.”
“Ma’ams! I have an opinion!” I shouted while they were at the midst of their debate, silencing the room.
“I want my squad to be deployed on a mission, ma’am!” I said, making Ksenya fell on her knees and Yulia dropping her weapon clanking it on the ground.

This Used to be About Dungeons is a comfy slice-of-life adventuring story that occasionally features dungeons. Updates Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Mostly it's about walking in the woods with a friend, looking for mushrooms to put in your soup, or haggling with the guy selling squash, or taking care of a neglected garden. It's putting some jam on shortbread biscuits. And yes, sometimes you go down into the dungeons with your friends, and you kill monsters there, or disarm traps, but when you come out, you realize you've found the perfect magic item to give to one of the local kids that helped you out when your cat was sick. Look, the dungeons are always going to be there, and sometimes you need to make a journey to one of the Spirit Gates, or make a pilgrimage with the local Cleric of Symmetry to a holy shrine. Your tour through the local dungeons can wait. You'll have rivalries with other groups, and find some dungeon eggs that need to be carefully incubated in case they turn out to be something valuable, and help a friend to build a fishing weir. 8 177Good Guy Necromancer
Necromancers are murderous, repulsive, utterly ungodly creatures. And then there's Jerry. Jerry is a novice necromancer who treats his undead warmly, seeks to befriend people instead of harvest their bodies, and doesn't mind cracking a skull or two when needed. He genuinely is a good guy—too bad nobody believes him. Trying to discover his place in the world, Jerry will live great adventures. He will make friends, each unique in their own way, and together, they will travel through a variety of striking environments; from a tiny village, to the land of the dead, to a jolly archipelago, to a kingdom on a beanstalk. To save a world that shuns him, Jerry must stand against a large organization of arrogant, mighty wizards. He strives to become stronger while maintaining his kindness, only to realize that, maybe, gentle hearts make the greatest necromancers. This is the story of a delightful man in a harsh world—full of warmth, action, and wise-cracking bone puns. Chapters are usually 2-3k words, and updates are 3/week: Mon, Wed, Fri. If you're looking for another fun, action-packed adventure, check out Cultivator vs. System by yours truly, available on Kindle, KU, and Audible. But read Good Guy Necromancer first.
