《Project Synthesis》16 - Come a little closer

*Perspective of Stellar Union of Mankind LT Novak Griffin*
It was magnificent. A true display of might, awe-inspiring and bone-chilling.
An Avatar of Mh’ithrha, felled by a single soldier.
The pilot and I got on the ground while the rest of the crew were already pushing back the mutts, and only managed to contribute a bit compared to them. I was already quite stirred by our commander’s reckless jump, but when I saw the carnage she had caused, I couldn't help but smile. I was being led by a madwoman, and with all I've seen in my career, it knew it was the type of mad that either got shit done or just stumbled on the first pebble on the road.
When the Avatar appeared, i thought to myself that we might all die here, and what a shame it was for me to not get to enjoy a little craziness before my time, but then again, this redhead just continued pushing forward, and before we all knew, we were covering for her, trying to buy her as much time as possible, because that display made us want to fight and conquer too.
And we did.
When she got pinned to the ground, we gasped as children watching our favorite hero getting cornered by a supervillain, and we tried to help by showering the damn monster with gunfire. And when we saw that blinding light, and how that massive body, easily the size of a small house, fell to the ground with a hole in its neck, we cheered as loud as we could.
We did it. She did it.
And when we rushed to provide aid, we saw… something. I’ll say, I've seen a lot of shit, but this is definitely top three.
What the hell is this cocoon? And why is it breathing?

*Perspective of Stellar Union of Mankind colonist Jaeran Antinica*
It was madness. An absolute show of pure, unbridled insanity.
‘Who was this woman, and why did she charge at those beasts?’ We thought at first, then it changed to hope as we saw the number of hounds decrease steadily, then despair again when the Avatar appeared.
And then she charged the Avatar too! What a cuckoo. And she actually killed it.
I’ll be eternally grateful, no doubt, but I really don’t want to have anything to do with her. That face she had while butchering the hounds, those abnormally focused eyes, that crazy smile… I don't think I'll have nightmares just about those hounds.
When the Avatar fell, the rest of the hounds dispersed. Probably the effect of the mutation was the presence of this Avatar, we still don’t know exactly what is an Avatar of Mh’ithrha, only that it appears whenever there’s a lot of hounds of Tindalos. Eh, what do I know, I'm just a simple colonist, just ask me about crops and i’ll tell you all you want to hear.
Now, the pressing situation was that our mad hero was encased in a brass-like cocoon, and that cocoon was seemingly breathing, inhaling and exhaling. All we could do was transport it back to the village, or what was left of it, and let the Union soldiers take care of it. We will take care of all their needs, and we’ll also use as much help we can get to try and get the colony back into working shape, as well as burying the bodies of our dead, and burning the bodies of the beasts; some of them we save for consumption, we can’t be that picky about food right now, so stringy dark meat will have to be on the menu for some time.

Just another day in the life of a colonist, right?
