《Project Synthesis》7 - Next order

General Hyrvin looks at me somewhat scared, and I can feel that Anne is not even blinking while looking at me. It’s just Arman that is out of himself.
- The use of an advanced skill in only a day! Absolutely remarkable! I must take notes right now!
- Dr. Arman, I’d suggest you leave that for later - Interrupted Anne, not even taking her eyes away from me - Miss Lilith, I assume that was not intentional, but please be careful.
I’m sure she did something to stop… whatever i was doing. I don’t have a clear idea of what happened, just that I did something, even Hallie registered it. Eye of Dominion was it?
- General, please answer Miss Lilith question - Added Anne, finally blinking and then looking at the burly man that was breathing fast.
He looked like he wanted to retort, but Anne’s unmoving expression apparently convinced him otherwise.
- You are to be assigned a post in the border of Alliance territory, under Alliance command… we’ve assigned you a ship and a crew, of which you’ll function as a squad leader and report directly to the Alliance hierarchy and to Dominion Corp.
- We felt that retaking your duties would put you at ease, Miss Lilith - Added Anne again - And we need some field tests of our devices and implants, as we said, we aim for the improvement of mankind, and Miss Lilith is our main hope regarding that.
- Right, and this border that you speak of, I'm guessing it’s not going to be a simple patrolling task - I ask somewhat annoyed. Their intentions are totally clear, not even trying to hide the fact that i’m being used as if i was a simple tool.
- Rest assured Miss Lilith, that the Stellar Union and Dominion Corporation have taken all necessary measures to ensure your survival.

Yeah, that’s exactly what worries me. They need me alive, but reading between lines, they need me to engage in combat with something I don't know yet.
- What’s the situation on the border? As far as i know there’s no war
- All information is gonna be annexed to the briefing… Hey, it’s the truth, it’s better explained there than what could be said in words! - Hyrvin gets startled quickly as I start looking annoyed in his direction mid-speech. At least I can get a bit of satisfaction this way, so bear with it. Getting to mess with a general before would have me thrown out of an airlock, but this corporation has the army grabbed by the balls it seems, so i’ll take it as a personal mission to just annoy the fuck out of them, perhaps i’ll be lucky and be dishonorably discharged or whatever applies to my status.
After that, there’s not much to be said. I actually wanted to hear about the situation on the border, but reading it directly from the briefing and relying on Hallie for further explanation seemed like the best option in this case. I just feel like this general is as competent as a gorilla playing the flute.
I get escorted to my room, where I'm alone with my thoughts and an AI again.
They said that the briefing would be sent to my personal link, Hallie?
[Said report has already been received, would you like to read it?]
Yes please.
In my vision, a document gets shown as if it was directly in front of me, but that’s just another function of those implants, or is it the Tracer? I don’t know.
Looks like, even though the Alliance is at peace, and has been for some time now, there are some skirmishes on the border with a nearby nebula with pirates, a race of sapient murder fungus, and recently, outposts on the nearby regions have been reporting about strange mutated creatures attacking. They are really sending me to the weirdest place possible, aren’t they?

I spend the rest of the day reading about the reports, even some from a couple of years before. Well, I have to be careful with the term years now, as I was reminded by Hallie that what I call years are called Human Years in the Alliance. Because i haven’t seen one yet, my perception of cooperation with aliens is limited, but i have to remember that it’s a common thing in this reality.
Well, I'll deal with that when the time comes, just have to be ready to not get surprised at the sight of a talking dog or whatever. For now, there’s something more pressing, and it’s a topic I'm really damn interested right now.
Hallie, I want to learn Technomancy.
