《Flight of the Princess Sage [hiatus]》Prologue, The sage embarks on her jouney

In the dimly lit room there was a large round stone table and a tall stone chair that could be mistaken for a throne. On that throne-like chair sat a woman. No matter how much you tried, you would never be able to catch her features; only the general idea of her ephemeral looks would be stuck in your mind. In front of the woman there was a large window that took up most space of the room and behind that window, you could see never-ending darkness and a sea of moving lights that looked like stars. Their chaotic dance from one edge of infinity and into another, the magnificent figures they drew in their mad rush would drive a normal mind insane. However, the woman didn’t show even the slightest bit of interest in the crazy spectacle. She simply sat on the throne-like chair and absentmindedly drew some kinds of patterns on the table with her finger, each move leaving a trace of golden light that stayed on the surface of the table, out of which small golden sparks flew, resembling the scene outside of the room.
“How boring” a complaint escaped her lips.
“It will be over soon enough,” She tells herself.
At that moment all the shadow in the room moved towards a single point and formed a humanoid silhouette. Blinking in and out of existence, the new figure moved to the woman with mechanic precise motions.
“Greetings, Aurora” The figure stopped in front of the table and a metallic voice said from the inside of it.
“Took you long enough” Aurora replied
“I’ve been waiting for how long, a century, a millennium? You certainly did take your time. So, did you remember your promise, or did you decide to travel the universe and this has happened to be the last place you had left to visit?”
“I was hoping you would abandon this crazy idea, Aurora. What you plan to do is far to dange-”
“You said it, what I plan to do! If you came to try and convince me otherwise I recommend you leave now, instead of wasting the time!” An enraged Aurora cried.

“So, what are you going to do? Help me? Or leave?”
The figure stood still, keeping its silence. Whoever controlled it was probably thinking what to do now.
“And you will not change your mind?”
“Absolutely not”
“Sigh, even if I don’t help you you would probably try to do it on your own… Haaa, it’s best I be there so your chances of success would be even the tiniest bit higher. I’ll come myself, wait a second”
With this, the figure disappeared.
The next moment the space underneath the figure lit up in a bright blue from the circle with many strange letters. The light intensified, becoming blinding, and out of the radiance a humanoid creature that looked like a teenage girl with blue hart but had firefly wings and was the size of human palm appeared.
The little girl, the fairy, wore a blue dress and a blue pointed hat with wide borders, both the same shade as her hair. Her tiny face was extremely beautiful, like the finest work of a great sculptor, with her large blue eyes that seemed to possess the wisdom of aeons she looked both very young but at the same time bore the air of maturity beyond the age her appearance suggested. Still, her eyes also bore a bitter sadness, as if she lost something important to her
“It really has been a long time we last met face to face, haven’t we, Stella? See? It wasn’t that hard to show yourself, right?”
“But if I did you would probably try to proceed with your plan…” The fairy's voice began to shake “I-I d-didn’t wanna lose you!” Her beautiful face ruined with tears.
“Now, now, no need to be so sad! I’ll surely find you next time! By no means is this the last time we meet!”
“How can you be so sure about this Aurora?! What you’re trying to do is dangerous! What happens if something goes wrong? You entire soul will be completely destroyed! How can you be so selfish? What will I do without you? I, I don’t want you to leave!” Stella was crying, beating her tiny hands against Aurora but both of them knew that the decision was final.

“I’m sorry for my selfishness, Stella, I truly am. But I can no longer bear to stay in this space outside of all space and time, watching how all these souls move to their destinies. I’m sorry, Stella, but it’s time for me to move on”
"I love you, Aurora”
"I love you too, but I still can’t stay.”
“I know. I love you and don’t want to lose you, but I can’t let you suffer. But you must find me again, you hear me? If you don’t, I’ll stop at nothing to find you! Even if I have to tear the world apart and turn it upside down, I will find you!”
The blue fairy wiped her tears and tightly hugged the ephemeral woman. And then she looked at the table.
“So, as I can see from these runes you will compress the soul and during the process try to engrave the memories onto the destiny arrays? Will it not affect your magic pathways?”
“It’s likely, but it’s the safest method of transferring the memories over to the next life. I would prefer not being able to use my magic for a few years to developing schizophrenia”
“From what I see there will be permanent damage though?”
“No. As the soul will grow accustomed to the new body the old pathways will begin to fade. At some point there will be nothing left of them. And it will be then when I will re-carve them. At least those I am most familiar with”
“Still too dangerous. If the new one begin to form they will try to-”
“I will seal the growth of new pathways until the ones I carved out will take roots. After that there will be no damage.”
“Alright, next the compressed soul will disperse the outer layer – why?”
“As my soul is now, it’s too strong. It will not find a body resilient enough to withstand it. And if I want to keep my memories I can’t dilute the spirit essence in my soul. Even after it will disperse the outer layer it will be quite a trial to find a suitable host. Let’s hope there’ll be a soul-free dragon-king egg or something nearby”
“So, you expect to be born in a world far from your original?”
“Far enough to be outside of the Fae Council jurisdiction probably”
“Hm. That will be problematic. How will you find me then?”
“I will. No matter the distance I will. That is one of the few things in the universe you can be certain of. Though depending on your relative location it may take a while”
“I have a lot of time. Just make good on your word, okay?”
“I will. Let’s start then?”
Then countless golden runes lit up on Aurora’s body, she and the room disappeared in the golden radiance and very soon her body turned into a giant golden Sun, many times larger than the rest of the stars in the endless void. Stella was directing the golden particles, the amount of which was constantly increasing, that were separating from the Sun off into the void where they, without a definite shape disappeared without a trace and soon what was left from the Sun was a star the same size as the rest, but its brightness was on a whole new level. Stella gently took the star into her hand and gently pushed her into the flow.
“Be safe, my love”
And she lit up in blue light and disappeared.
In a different place and at a different time in the Mehliac duke family a child was born.

Paladin
When the first derelict alien spacecraft fell to Earth, humanity took what was found in it and propelled themselves to new heights. In their new Golden Age, humanity developed technology that they had only dreamed about. The following years saw hundreds more ships crash into the planet, spurring even greater technological leaps. An unassuming spacecraft, one of the dozens that fell yearly, descended on Siberia in 2021. The world took no particular notice of it. However, this one contained something beyond the miraculous technology that had made humans so prosperous. Three years later, in a top-secret underground facility in eastern Colorado, the automated construction of an army of Paladin Mobile Infantry Suits was underway. With this new, state-of-the-art weaponry, the military would turn the tide against the alien incursion that was consuming the planet. Humanity fell before that could happen. Sam was an engineer responsible for overseeing the facility. Now alone, he lives in utter boredom and near insanity, his only company the base’s pseudo AI and an army of empty Paladins. With the world gone to hell around him, and the things that caused it still living above, he decides that he is much better off staying exactly where he is. Unfortunately for him, that is no longer an option. This is the first novel I've written. The first fifteen or so chapters are going to be a little slower. I want there to be time to get to know the characters before they start blowing stuff up. Also, though the MC will be strong relative to the world, he won't be OP, and won't win every fight. Not every fight will be physical either. Currently, I'm aiming for something like 5 fairly short chapters a week, after the introduction part is done, but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading, and please let me know if I've made mistakes!
