《Jalan Suram : The 100 Fire Holders》1. Prologue

Prologue
In my town, there were a couple of the so-called supernatural spots. One of the spots was a whole street. Officially, its name was Jalan Sulam. It was named that way because the wives and daughters of the soldiers gathered at Jalan Sulam before the country’s independent proclamation day to sew brand new uniforms for their husbands and fathers. It was a patriotic and heart-wrenching story. Sad though that nowadays, people, especially young adults like me, had taken to calling the place Jalan Suram.
Years of neglect had turned Jalan Sulam into the gloomiest street in the town—hence, the name. Despite the growing problem of the dramatic rise in the price of the lands, people still tended to avoid the cheap land of Jalan Sulam. Cars never went through there and pedestrians would often hasten their pace every time they crossed over the place. This included me.
So, you could imagine my surprise when I received an invitation to an address on Jalan Sulam via postal mail one day. People rarely used postal mail for invitations anymore. It was cheaper, easier and safer to simply use an email. It was rare and not just a little weird to receive this invitation from a stranger.
The sender was named Agus Setiawan. While I had met a couple of Aguses during school, none possessed the last name of Setiawan. A little bit curious and more than a little bit suspicious, I opened the plastic wrapper and fetched out a golden invitation.
Mrs. Novita,
100, Jalan Sumatera

The dubious content frankly amazed me. Without an ounce of regret, I crumpled the invitation and threw it into the dustbin. It was amazing how creative people could get in their ways of scamming some poor souls. It was a pity because their creativeness was used in the wrong way, though. Laziness was a plague for society.
A week later, the invitation was shoved under my door. With a frown, I found that it was the same invitation I had taken the pain to crumple and throw away. The feeling of uneasiness attacked me while my instinct told me that something was very strange indeed. Of course, I was not going to ignore said instinct, especially after all it had done to keep me alive that time.
Wiping out my trusty smartphone, I googled for “100 Fire Holders contest”. To my surprise, the keywords appeared on the very first link. Opening that link, I was brought to a website of a company named PT. Putra Utama Sejati.
It sounded familiar.
I glanced at the invitation. There, on the very last sentence, the company’s name was printed in the elegant, cursive font. Perhaps, I was wrong in thinking of the invitation as a scam. Perhaps, it was a very real contest.
Excited and eager, I started to click the entire link on that website. The introduction, the FAQs, contact information, and finally, the contest’s description.

Is anyone excited for an experience of a brand new kind of contest? Do you know how much is the reward? A shocking delicious five hundred million rupiahs! Are you excited? We are!
The participants of the contest are going to be selected by our very own founder, Alex Adinata, objectively. The criterion for the selection is shocking and dangerously confidential.
We aim to surprise the nominees when they receive their special invitation!
Further information will be explained on the invitation. Get this though, there are going to be a hundred nominees. A hundred participants out of millions in Medan. Anyone can be the winner!
To think the largest trading company in Indonesia was going to host this kind of obscure contest. I shook my head in amusement. My eyes were then drawn to the sentence about the prize. ‘A shocking delicious five hundred million rupiahs.’
It is indeed very delicious.
My instinct suddenly warned me that it was a bad idea. I argued that there were going to be a lot of people there. The image of Jalan Suram assaulted me. The darkness, the gloom, the feeling of utter abandonment. Who knew what was going to be in there?
My eyes were drawn again to the hundred million rupiahs part.
As a college student, I needed a lot of money to pay the College’s fee. As a young adult, I needed a lot more money for supplies and building connections. As a woman, there were a lot of demanding necessities that were not cheap. And five hundred million rupiahs was a lot. It was enough for me to get through college and live leisurely for years.
It was settled. I would go.

Long War [Oldest]
It was a war. It was silent, so silent that few people ever noticed that it was happening, and long. So long that those who knew forgot why it ever started. Humanity had fought against itself... and lost. Prosperity, democracy and human rights were a thing of the past now, as the world fell into Sovereigns's hands - a handful of transnational corporations (and their CEOs) that monopolized the world economy. The resistance had been long silenced with the policy of bread and games. Now, over a hundred years later, something happened. One of the Sovereigns created a VRMMORPG like none other. A science fiction game, where players could explore the Galaxy... full of advanced technologies, bloodthirsty aliens and even magic. Was it a simple computer game, or... something else?

Pawns of God
Five Lines PitchJoin Mark in his fight against a God and change the game's destiny! Delve into a slow-paced story focused on the progression of the main party and the development of the world. Mark himself will be narrating his life inside the game, and to a much lesser extend outside. Guild building, economy, and strategy are the central pieces of the novel. Mark is not overpowered, he will have to build his own power through action-packed battles, trials, traumas, love, and death. Accompany him, the healer and the strategist, an agent of chaos, in the adventure of his life. Without further preamble, I will let Mark take the mic. SynopsisHi! My name is Mark. This is my story, my life as I live it day after day. I’m in my thirties, and there’s nothing I love more than playing online games. I’ve just joined the action on the newest VRMMO game, Pawns of God. An immersive experience you can play while sleeping. Of course, as a game that takes pride in its long development and technological advances, everything inside seems and feels real. Beware, this is not a game-turns-real story. I love my own world and I would detest being summoned into another one. If that ever happens, I’ll just quickly take my life and be done with it. I play with my friends, in a party of 5. We have taken several roles, but lately, I've come to love being a healer. It's my secret ambition to someday be the shotcaller. I am not overpowered. If there is any bug or exploit in the game, they are yet to be discovered. Anyhow, for a game of this scale, the company is pouring all of its resources into test servers, QA, and beta tests. I don’t expect to find any, so I’ll be playing the game just like any other person. I must say, though, I am easily distracted, as you will immediately notice once you start. I'm working on it, I promise to improve! I am no hero. Being in my 30s, my heart is too old for this shit. I wouldn’t mind being one, of course. Who hasn’t dreamt of it? Either way, I’m not doing any grand quest to save the world. Whatever the game throws to their users, I’ll be there to experience it. Most of my life, at least the interesting parts that I’ll be narrating, happen inside the game itself. Rarely, there will be some IRL (In Real Life) chapters. You’ll understand, however, that as a freelance software developer, there is not much I can entertain you with when outside the game. Did I say I love games? Well, I’m also a fan of LitRPG literature. You know, journeys of magic, relationships, personal development, items, skills, discovery… In the spirit of not overwhelming my public, I’ll condense each chapter into circa 1500 words. You might have noticed some tags over this story, let me elaborate. I like to swear. I’m not shy when it comes to cursing my enemies, friends, or even myself. When there’s blood, I tell it as I see it. And… it hurts to admit it, but I’m not a casanova. Of course, this doesn’t mean that I won’t ever find love. So, in case I do end up finding it, let’s keep my sexual options open. As for traumas, none yet, but the future is vast and unknown. Release Schedule The schedule is subject to change, particularly if enough readers end up loving it. All chapters are already written, thus there is enough freedom to modify them. Arachnids ; BW
"You forgetting anything?" Her husky voice rasped at me, pushing back the lump in her throat. My eyes began to water as I looked down to the ground, watching a small ant crawl by my shoe. One foot was inside the small apartment we had shared and the other, the other was planted firmly on the cement step outside. Her words echoed around in my head. Am I forgetting anything? I was forgetting you I wanted to reply. Home to me was always a person. And now.... I was homeless. [-]Black Widow x ReaderParker!Reader(GxG)
