《Reincarnated, let's be a pirate.》Chapter 40.2 [Poll]

What am I exactly? I've been called a demon, a pirate, a hero, an entrepreneur. It almost seems like I'm called by name rarely. It seems my role is always bigger than myself.
I'm constantly followed by disaster so perhaps ‘a demon' isn't inaccurate.
I stole my ship and made my fortune as an adventurer. So ‘pirate' is an apt description for sure.
Hero? Maybe to some, but to the whole country? I don't know about that.
I know for sure I am not an entrepreneur though, that's Karlie and Autumn, I just provided seed money to good investments. I suppose I have spread a bit of my worlds knowledge, but that was mostly because I missed clam chowder and proper baked goods.
I'm selfish more than anything. When have I acted not in my own self-interest?
"What is captain?"
"What's going on Rou?"
"Ah, Aqua, Captain asked me what I think he is. But it's a strange question, Captain. Don't you know what you are?"
"Well sure I suppose, but I want your opinions."
"I see. What do you think Aqua?"
"'What is Captain?'… Hmm, Captain is someone loved by the ocean spirit. But he is also someone capable of amazing things."
"Mhm, Right. He's like a young spirit!"
"Well technically that's you all, but whatever."
"What are you all talking about?"
"Captain was asking us who he was."
"So Master is trying to find himself?"
"Did someone say Captain is missing?"
"Cole's gone?!?"
"What! No! This devolved far quicker than normal. Ah, just forget that question. It doesn't really mean much."
"'That' question? Did you have others?"
"Well no, not exactly. Well, a few but I'm embarrassed to ask. I actually wanted to know if you all had any questions for me."

"Questions for Master?"
"Right, I think it's a good chance to ask anything you've wondered along the way."
"I see..."
"Mirna has one!!"
"Shoot."
"Mirna has no gun. But will ask the question instead. What is ‘Menu'? You said it to Mirna a long time ago, and you started again recently whenever we are cooking together."
"Yeah, I've wondered that too, you say it before you do anything amazing. Is it like a trigger word? Can we do it too?"
"Hmm, that's a good question. It is technically a trigger word. It opens my cheat menu. It gives me a lot of interesting skills. Like moving the ship, or creating objects out of thin air like the house or your weapons."
"Wooooooah."
"I have a question for Master, but I wonder if it's too forward to ask."
"What are you going to ask Alice?"
Alice leans to Rou who nods quickly at the question staring me down with an intensity.
"I too wonder that. Captain, did you have wives in your world?"
"Wives? No. No, I didn't even have a girlfriend. I was seen as someone undesirable."
"That is impossible!"
"Mhm. With your skill surely you'd be…"
"I didn't have those skills there. I imagine if I didn't have them here it would be the same again."
"That's not…"
"You can't know that for sure."
The deck grew silent as everyone thought about their individual reasons for joining. Realistically none of them would be in my life if not for my abilities.
Let's play out that hypothetical. Everything at the beginning would be the same, except Mirna would simply tell me they don't have ‘menu's' and I would have continued with my order. The Excalibur would still be on the beach. Rou and Aqua would have found another ship to work for. A good navigator is of course in high demand.

Without Aqua and Rou, Lynn wouldn't have trusted me enough to pull me aside. Mirna would still be starving in the rundown inn or even sold to less reputable groups.
Everything else falls like dominoes from there. Without the Excalibur, I don't meet El, Alice, Karlie, Autumn or Triff.
Clove would search me out due to me selling her the Core. But once I was noticed as a simple F level who got lucky she would lose interest.
"Mirna has another question!"
"Oh?" Perfect timing I had begun to become depressed.
"Mhm, It has bugged Mirna for months. Probably since the first night together with Captain."
"Oh."
"Mm, it is much more serious than Menu though. So please tell me the truth honestly."
"Ok, Mirna. I will take it seriously. Go ahead."
"In the Star Wars stories, you said it takes place in a galaxy far far away. What is a galaxy?"
"I see. So it's that after all. Ok, to explain a galaxy first you must understand our place in the universe. We live in what is called a ‘solar system'. Our planet is just one of many in gravity bound rotation around a central star. A galaxy is a grouping of…"
From there we touched on black holes as well as quantum theory. Triff had some interesting thoughts on faster than light travel but I begged her to keep it theoretical.

Viceroy's Pride
This story could be about the Tellask Empire, ruler of a thousand suns and faced with imminent peril at the hands of the Orakh hordes. It could be about Paltai Amberell, the scion of a noble elven House, fallen upon hard times and seeking to find the key that will restore his family's name and save the Empire itself. It could be the story of his voidship, The Viceroy's Pride, powered by magic and crewed by a team of crack marines as they search for adventure and the solution to the Empire's myriad problems. Instead, this is the story of Daniel Thrush, human electrical engineer, befuddled researcher and survivor of the debacle that was first contact with a spacefaring civilization. Due to a combination of luck, magic, hard work, and more luck he is thrust into the center of events as Earth is shoved onto a much larger stage rife with semi-immortal elves and magical kingdoms that predate the Earthly invention of agriculture. Earth is outnumbered, and we have precisely one wizard. Dan. He's not very good at it, but he's going to have to learn in a hurry or watch everything he knows get torn apart by massive spacefaring empires straight from the pages of a fantasy novel. ---------- Some readers have noted that the MC tends to be weak willed and pushed around a bit. A significant portion of the story is his character growth into not being a pushover (i.e. him being passive is in the early chapters on purpose). I'm just including this caveat/warning to make sure that readers aren't surprised/upset and that they stick with it until he learns to stand up for himself. His arc begins to crystallize around chapters 25-27. If that's too long to wait, I get it, I'm just trying to do my due diligence and warn you that the character development is a bit of a slow burn. This is NOT a harem novel. Nothing against them, just not what it is. --------- Updates Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday Feel free to bother me on our discord- Discord!
