-Ena’s Past(3)-

It started since that day Kenshin revived her after she lost her leg to those greasy dragons. At random intervals, she started to have flashes of a life she didn’t remember. But she was an intelligent being, and also self-aware behind her own circumstances of creation. She knew she was a zombie, a being who wasn’t supposed to be this intelligent and different. Its all thanks to her master that she was even able to think for herself.

But these past few days were no fun for her. Visions kept flashing even when she was doing something important. It was especially annoying last night when they had assassins after her master’s life, and yet she was having a hallucination of some kid. It was a good thing she wasn’t given any important role, or else she would have screwed up so bad. Therefore today, she was here to make sure what all those visions all about. She kept seeing this exact place no matter what kind of vision she was having.

Z1 followed behind Ena, keeping distance enough so that she wouldn’t be aware of his presence. His master sent him to keep an eye out for Ena and prevent her from doing something stupid. Of course, he could understand what stupid his master mentioned. His intelligence was even higher than his master, let alone Ena. How can he not get what his master wants?

But there was one thing Z1 hasn't told his master yet. He was able to remember his past, the past before his death, at least. But he was able to differentiate between his past and present. It was one of the advantages of having super high intelligence. He discarded his past and accepted his ‘now’ as a creation of his master made solely for a purpose. At least it was better than his previous life where he didn’t even know why he was created and what was his purpose.

‘It looks like I need to have a talk with her before she does something irreversible.’ Z1 was really worried about this. When they start recalling their pasts, a sudden identity crisis will occur. Since they were the creation of their master, they would try to get rid of this identity crisis since it interferes with their loyalty to their master. He only saw Z2 doing this, and he was also sure Ena will do it too, their special way of dealing with this.

To search the source and eliminate it.

If not for his deterrence, that Z2 would have started a slaughter in one of the corners of Mito. His past was truly a tragic one. He was a family man before with a beautiful wife and a son. He was living happily until one day, a hunter saw and harbored dark intentions on his wife. His little family was broken then. His wife was humiliated and his son was killed by that hunter after being violated. Later his wife committed suicide, unable to handle the pain of losing her son. Left alone, a revenge-driven man who lost everything tried to sue the man, but the government supported the hunter as he was a fairly powerful one.

But the man still didn’t give up. After a month of his defeat in public court, he decided to become a hunter and take revenge after becoming adequately strong. But his path of vengeance was cut short when he became prey to a group of zombies and died with a belly full of resentment and unwillingness. He later became a monster of the dungeon, slain by their master, and again reborn as one of their master’s servants.

The day Z2 remembered these, he took up his sword and marched on a warpath towards the place he knew that despicable hunter lived. That time he forgot his place as his anger of previous life completely overwhelmed his entire being. It's only by coincidence he was there with Z2 and stopped him from doing what he intended to do. Therefore this stopped a lot of headaches for their master. A few hours later, Z2 regained his composure and managed to separate his past life and current life.

Z1 was afraid of the same thing happening to Ena too. Considering her place in their master’s heart, he doesn’t want to screw up this mission. Therefore he was extra attentive to her actions and refrained from coming in direct contact with her.

Ena followed the images from her memory and arrived on this unfamiliar street. She wanted to verify what she was seeing was indeed true and not some weird case of rejection from this world. Although she found this street after an extensive search, she was still unable to find the small house that kept flashing in her head. In her visions, three things kept repeating itself. This street, a small house, and two people. One of them was a small kid.

Although she wasn’t sure if its true or not, but Ena had a suspicion that the kid might be her son from when she was alive. Or even if he wasn’t her son, he must be her little brother. Whatever her relationship with that kid, she really wanted to know. These visions and memories kept popping in random times making her feel weird and distracted which she didn’t want.

‘Where is that house anyway? In the first place, does a house like that even exist anymore?’ Ena wondered after failing to spot that house in her dreams. Not to mention the house, she wasn’t able to familiarize herself with anything in this street, which resembles remotely to what she had seen on her dreams. In her dreams, there suppose to be a small shopping complex around where she was standing, but what she was seeing wasn’t a shopping mall but a barricaded plot with a half-constructed building which seemed to have been abandoned for a while.

After searching around for a while, she spotted an elderly man who was walking his dog. Trotting over to him, Ena forced a smile on her face and greeted the old man, “hello elder, how do you do? Can I ask you something?”

The elderly man looked up from his pup and saw a cute little girl in frilly dress smiling at him which seemed forced for some reason. Not one to be nosey, he just smiled “of course, if I can answer it, then I will. Ask away little girl.”

“Thank you elder. I heard there used to be a small shopping mall around this area, can you tell me what happened to it?” Ena asked in a polite tone.

“Huh? Oh… you mean that mall? Well, sorry lady, the mall was closed down for a few years. I think its already four years. The mall owner sold his land to a construction company that was building that house. For some reason, that apartment was never finished.” The old man said with a nostalgic face. It seemed he remembered some nice memories attached to that mall.

“I see. So then all those big and small houses near to the mall were also sold and destroyed?” Ena came to point after a little distraction.

“Unfortunately, yes.” The old man nodded.

“Alright elder, take care.” Ena sighed and walked back towards ho
