-Vol 5: A New Life-
-Chapter 219-
Kenshin had ordered two of those expensive pastries, one for himself and other for the girl sitting in front of him. To make his plans succeed, he must know everything about this shop as well as the owner. He already decided to treat one of the waiters here and ask them about the details. It was just his luck that such a beautiful woman came to greet him while all the others were busy with their own work.
That’s why he changed his initial plan of just paying and taking the information, he decided to treat the girl and ask her discreetly. In this way, not only there would be a beautiful lady to accompany him when he was eating, but he would also complete his objective.
“How long have you been working here?” he asked in between his observations of the pastry. The dessert indeed looks beautiful and expensive, though he couldn’t be sure about the taste. Ellie did say that it didn’t taste good, but he couldn’t completely trust her words after all.
“I…Its been two months already. I am a recent graduate of high school and now doing various part-time works to earns some money for my uni years.” The girl answered nervously. She had already seen the spending capability of the man, making her realize that he was, either a wealthy man or, son of one. If she could make him fall for her, then her later half of the life was already set.
“Heh! A high school graduate! Nice. I don’t get your name still…can I have the pleasure of knowing it?” bringing out eloquence that he didn’t know existed within him, Kenshin continued his conversation.
“Ah! I am really sorry for my incompetence. I am…my name is Fujita Chihiro.” The girl introduced herself earnestly, if not a little nervously. On the inside she was very happy, it means the man had some interest in her.
“Thousand springs…hmmm…nice name indeed. I am called Kenshin, Muto Kenshin.” Kenshin also introduced himself with a lopsided smile and pushed a cupcake at her.

“Here, have a taste!”
“Ah…thank you!” she thanked him and watched the cupcake sitting in front of her on her plate. Although she would deliver this thing every now and then to some customers, she had never tasted it herself. More like she never had money to buy it herself and would not dare to have a taste even while thrown on the dustbin.
She had her own pride after all.
She glanced secretly at Kenshin but blushed to see him smiling at her direction. It made her feel like a thief that just got caught doing its job. With red cheeks, she held the small fork given with the cupcake and tried to tear a small peace to have a bite. With a mind filled with expectations, she entered the small peace into her mouth.
As the expensive thing entered her mouth, a wave of flavour rushed into her taste buds, making her feel many emotions at once. Finally, she settled with a plain one and muttered disappointingly, “It's plain…! Ah! I am sorry, I didn’t mean in that way.” She hurriedly apologized, finding her reaction a bit rude to the one who was treating her.
“Don’t worry. I also find this thing a bit plain.” Kenshin continued to smile, but his true emotions were raging deep in his heart.
‘Shit! Ellie was right…this thing is crap…’
“So, Ms Fujita, may I ask you some questions?” Kenshin asked in between bites.
“Please call me Chihiro, Ms Fujita is the name of my mother, it feels a bit weird when called, so…”
“Okay, Chihiro, it is then. So can I ask you some questions? Don’t worry, its nothing personal, just some small enquiry about this place.”
“Umm! Okay. Please ask away, if it's within my capability, I will answer them.” looking a little uncomfortable and disappointed, she still maintained her professional air.
“Haha! Don’t be that serious. It won't hamper your job at all if you answer them. you can also choose not to answer them if you find it too personal or beyond your jurisdiction.”

“Okay!”
“Thank you!”
“Well, my first question is…who is the owner of this place?”
After that, the question-answer session continued for quite a while. During this time, the girl answered all his questions. He only wanted to know the place well before going on with his plan. His plan was simple, behave like a typical rich hunter and give unlimited troubles to the owner until he spills everything. After that, depending upon their involvement, he would diss out their punishments.
He had decided to go the legal way.
His real plan was also more devious than this. If his guess was correct and the real preparator of this was that family, then he would make them helpless the most roundabout way possible. With his current status, unless he reveals his Divine Skill, he couldn’t do much damage to them legally, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t to their subordinates and partners.
If he gives three to four of their subordinates trouble, the bright minds around would connect the dots instantly and do the rest for himself. He would make them so helpless that, they would lose their status as one of the ten or twelve or whatever bullshit family they were.
He also knew that once the partners started to distance themselves, the family’s enemies, as well as the other great families, would swallow them whole. He wouldn’t even have to lift a finger. At that time, when this event would come to light, everyone would know that Mrs Yui would be an untouchable target, hence, building a protective umbrella for her and Ellie. As for if they suspect him or not, he didn’t care about that.
After getting all the information from her, he sent her away from the shop. He had to reveal his status and say some ambiguous things, but for the safety of Mrs Yui, he had to do them. Besides, he couldn’t make such a hardworking girl bear the consequences, it wouldn’t be fair at all. He wasn’t that cruel.
Kenshin was prepared to give her some financial support as well as find her a job at a high paying place. Nonetheless, if she goes to a place with a copy of his license claiming that she knows me, then getting a job wouldn’t be that hard. He was, after all, a government employee that manages dungeons related business and a magic skill user at the same time.
She might even get a complete scholarship with his help at any university she wants in Japan. If he had the same status as he has now, back when Akari was little, they wouldn’t have suffered so many hardships.
“Sigh! Okay…let's start!!” taking a deep breath, Kenshin started to rehearse in his mind before angrily slamming his hands on the table.
“Anybody…is anybody here? Come in quick!!”
At his shout, a male waiter came inside quickly.
“Yes sir, how can I help you?” he politely looked at the man. He had seen how this man casually said a few words to that female waiter, and she resigned her job and already left for home with a happy smile. From that alone, he could realize what the talk must have been, he had no illusion that that girls’ life would be changed after this.
“Are you in charge of cleaning this place? Huh? What is this? What the hell is this?” making a face that would put even the most arrogant rich second generation into shame, he pointed his fingers at a spiderweb fallen on his dessert. The inconspicuous-looking thing wasn’t visible to at first glance, he had to lean closer and look before finding it.
“This…sir, I am sorry…it seems to be a mistake…I…” he panicked, although he wasn’t on cleaning duty, he was still the one who was going to face this menace.

Survival Recommended
The universe is destroyed and its inhabitants are thrown into Existence. Eli finds himself in a new world, with a new body, and a System that's more interested in how he'll die. Follow him on his journey of survival in Realms above ours. The story is already completely planned as far as major plot elements go, and it's LONG, chinese novel long. The premise isnt exactly the most original, but after a couple chapters you won't mistake it for any other novel. Be warned this has little in the way of childish wish fufillment and lots of characters are going to die, so don't get too attached. As this is my first attempt at writing, the begining will probably be a bit rough. Please don't shy from criticisms, and I plan to rewrite most of the begining chapters as I get better.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
