-A little Visitor(2)-
Although the child coughed out some of this potion, the amount it drank was still considerable. The MP potion instantly showed its effect causing all the burns on its body to heal rapidly at an astonishing rate. Before long, not a single wound could be visible on the child’s body as well as face, even the scabs were completely shaded, showing pink skin underneath.
Kenshin wasn’t surprised to see this scene, but the child was. It looked shocked as it could no longer feel any pain. Furthermore, it looked even more energetic. After a few rounds of looking for itself, the child finally settled down and looked at Kenshin with a glazed look, as if a dog who had just seen its owner after a long time. At the same time, its ears fluttered in excitement, and it opened its mouth and screeched loudly.
From its earlier interaction, he already knew it couldn’t talk like humans. In fact, it’s walking style was also not like humans, it resembled a leopard or tiger, agile and deadly. The child walked using its arms and legs simultaneously. Looking at it, Kenshin wasn’t sure if the extra appendages were due to a skill or this child born with these, he had no interest to check them out.
“Okay, now that you are healed, you can shoo from here.” Kenshin signalled the child to get away from him. But the child gave him no reaction and just followed his hand motions like a monkey.
“Go! Go back from where you came. No need for you to follow me around,” seeing that the child didn’t have any reaction, he said it a bit louder than normal. After that, he turned around and started walking. A few minutes later he stopped as he felt that he was being followed, so he turned around but found no one. Then thinking of the child’s earlier trick, he raised his index finger and started charging fire energy again.

With a flash, the child came out of his shadow and jumped a few steps back, then looking at him with a wronged expression, it bared its teeth and started hissing loudly. It acted just like a bullied kitten who was denied its meal and was threatened with a stick. Even with all his fortitude, Kenshin still found it hard to get mad at such a reaction. So he calmed down and signalled for the child to go away again.
The reason why he was trying to goad this child to leave him wasn’t that he was heartless or something, well a part of the reason was that he found it too troublesome to deal with him/her. The other reason was its strange appearance. After returning from the north, his vision was broadened by a large margin. He was no longer limited to only monster and humans concept. He had already seen monsters turn into humans, who knows if the man selling fried chicken down the corner was a human or monster in disguise?
Kenshin deduced that this child might be an offspring of such a monster and a human, making him all the more dangerous to keep with him. Though from its shabby appearance, Kenshin had an inkling that this child might be an abandoned child. He didn’t dare to take it to DCB or local authorities, knowing them, this child would soon find itself under a light, accompanied by a green dressed man holding a scalpel.
Besides he was also intrigued by that shadow travel ability and wanted to copy it, but unfortunately, he had already exhausted all his free slots for replication at its current state, and he also didn’t have enough skill points to level up his skill. Unless he levels up again and gains some SPs, he couldn’t attempt to replicate.
The stat of this young child was as follows;

[…][??? 37%][Human: 63%]
[Level: 0]
[HP: 120/140][MP: 50/68]
[PHY: 14][INT: 34]
[Skills]
- Shadow Gateway Lv 3
This child didn’t have a name hence the blank field. Its level was also lowest of the low, only 0. Its physique was around 14, making it have an HP around 140. As for INT, it’s the highest stat among its two visible stat. Kenshin’s system didn’t show a stat that’s below 10, whether it's of the enemy or his. So Kenshin guessed that its other stats should all be around 6 or 7.
Although all these things were normal, there was something that caught his eye, it’s the human and something ??? percentage ratio. He also had this kind of ratio where his race should have been only human.
What did this mean?
This kid was also same as him, if so, then if he discovered what this kid was, he might find about himself. But he was too unwilling to take in a kid that although looks like a human, had all the tendencies of that ‘???’. Besides, he was a single man, taking a kid home would have its own set of problems, so thinking about everything, he decided it was still not advisory for him to take in this kid.
But the kid was also stubborn, not wanting to be left behind. It followed Kenshin like a shadow. Kenshin tried a few more times, but the result was the same. Finally, he had to give up on making the kid go and turned around, not caring if it follows or not. And when Kenshin started walking again, the kid jumped into Kenshin’s shadow and melded into it like entering a pool. His shadow even rippled like a water body.
That night Kenshin returned home a little late and immediately went to sleep. After he slept, the child came out of his shadow. Crawling towards him, it started to sniff his sleeping face. A few seconds later, it jumped atop him and laid above him like a cat, before going to sleep.
Kenshin opened his eyes and looked at the strange child. Its behaviour was exactly like that of a cat that found its master. With a sigh, he went back to sleep. Although a child was sleeping atop him, he didn’t feel uncomfortable. His breathing remained steady, and his movements minimized to a bare minimum, afraid of waking up the child.
His physique had already surpassed 500, something like this didn’t even phase him.
XXXX
In the morning when he woke up, the child nowhere to be seen. Looking around, he found it sitting on the sofa while looking curiously through the window. Noticing the approaching Kenshin, it faced him and bared its teeth and screeched before ignoring him completely.
“Sigh*” he could only sigh in misery at this. Ignoring it, he went into the bathroom to take a bath and complete all his needs. In these few days, he noticed a strange thing. He had lesser and lesser need to go to the bathroom. It's like his body was producing less and fewer wastes while digesting his food. Maybe it was because of his higher PHY, his body was breaking down even the complex of foods and turn it into energy. This discovery had a mixed reaction from him. He was afraid that one day he won't produce any wastes and then he would have no need to shit, wouldn’t his asshole disappear?
It really made him depressed.

The Trials of Bethany
Bethany, is a young girl who didn't expect anything more from her life than to spend her time churning butter and trying to ignore the abuse of her fellow village members. In any other world this would be a reasonable expectation for a person in the middle ages. But Bethany was lucky, or unlucky depending on how you look at it. Because her world was about to get a whole lot bigger, and a whole lot scarier. The Trials of Bethany, is a Gamelit story of a system arriving on earth in the middle ages with the characters being teleported away regularly to face trials to earn their skill levels. As such there won't be a flood of skills however there will be constant progression and other hidden treats. The story will be evolving as it's written and as always aspects of the story/world are prone to change. This is my first serious attempt at writing and my first time publishing anywhere so all constructive criticism is welcome. Currently uploading Tuesday & Friday with occasional bonus chapters.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!
