《I Will Be Recognized》98. Raw

The boy's name. It was Daniel right? And here I had assumed he was just a normie but it seems I was wrong. My judgement was very wrong. Even though the scouter I secretly used on him said he had a talent level of 2, I should have known there was something off when he wore a storage ring. Not just anyone—especially a kid—could obtain that. Did he have some sort of unique constitution that was unaccounted for? Though that shouldn't change the results in any way. As the person who designed the talent scale, I knew well that talent level was really another word for the body's potential; that is in terms of how many magic and physique realms they will be able to breakthrough in their lives.
Seeing the rod in his hand, it was already back to room temperature and no longer glowing. What was that? Three?—no. Two seconds. Almost as fast as me. Color me astonished. I really am. If his Reinforcement was that fast, then his willpower stat must be about the same as mine. It was abnormal.
I pulled a status mirror out of my storage ring.
"Show me your status." I demanded, passing it to him.
He looked at me confused as to why I was asking for his status.
"You're already very good at handling mana. So I need to know your status in order to design a training plan for you." I said. It was partly the truth and the other was just my curiosity.
He still looked hesitant as if he was hiding something—oh. So he was hiding something in his status. Well it would make sense, but what sort of skill or technique was he hiding? I should probably stop being so nosy like the old man I am.

I took back the mirror and tampered with it before handing it back. "There, it'll only show your general stats now."
I looked him on so he would understand that I wouldn't take no as an answer.
—Daniel's PoV—
'This situation...'
To do or not to do?
Would the Unnoticed Potential curse have kicked in about now? Glad that I no longer have it, but now that I think of it, the requirements for the curse to trigger was weird. It kicked in during a random time at the academy when I was eating a couple hundred servings of food but that was pretty much it. I mean, it seems almost as if the Unnoticed Potential curse was a sort of protection or a warning to me to lay low which I am still doing now. It never really did much harm to me either since it only triggered two or three times even though I saw multiple opportunities for it to trigger—especially during battle classes. Maybe the curse was just a bluff?
Thoughts like those got me to sort of regret removing the curse sometimes but it is what it is.
I could still feel the two gazes from the side as well as the one from the front. It shouldn't be too bad right? It was only showing my stats right? I hope so at least...
God damn, the vibe of this situation is the same as if I were about to come out of the closet. But knowing myself, I knew I was a complete heterosexual male. That much I was assured of. Or was I? Who knows.
I put the rod down on the floor and took a random sword out of the storage ring and made a minor cut on my arm. It didn't really hurt that much to be completely honest. It was unsanitary for sure, but from the looks of things, the cut was already getting ready to clot so I took the mirror and wiped it on my wound, treating it as a tissue.

The mirror gleamed a golden color before revealing my stats, specifically strength, agility, willpower, and mana. It didn't seem to count spiritual power as a stat and similarly to the scroll thing with Merlin, could not differentiate the extra mana from my wings. Interesting.
Now, the obvious thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was my inexplicable three digit willpower stat.
~~~~~~~~~~
Strength: 91
Agility: 112
Willpower: 461
Mana: 360
~~~~~~~~~~
Was it a perk of reincarnation or something? Why the heck did I have such a high willpower in the first place?
Seeing the light emitting from the mirror, Scarlet took it out of my hand and gave a quick glance before putting it back into her storage ring.
"Alright," she turned to the two girls, "You girls continue to practice Reinforcement. I'll come to pick you two up when it's about dinner time."
'Ah, did we skip lunch?'
She motioned over to me. "Hold my hand."
In a moment, we 'teleported' to a completely foreign area that was clear of any large buildings or housing. There was only but a single shaft here, in the middle of what I would presume to be another forest.
"Think of this as a training range." She said, releasing my hand.
"I'm going to teach you raw magic."
"Raw?" I questioned her wording.
"Yes, or non-elemental magic. Whichever is fine. They don't teach this in the Wizarding Academy or the Magic Knight Academy because of its complexity. It requires a lot of willpower to pull off as well which is why I am going to teach you it."
I didn't really know much about null magic since I've never seen anyone actually use it. It shouldn't hurt to learn though...
"It also requires a lot of mana and in terms of mana, you have more than enough to rival people with a mana aura, though I find it strange that you still only have a mana body."
She must be talking about the extra hundred mana from my wings.
"Raw magic has a bad stigma surrounding it which is completely false. A lot of average magicians and sorcerers try to learn it but ultimately fail because they can't comprehend the complexity behind it. Because they are unable to use it, these sore losers spread bad rumors about it, like how elemental magic is superior; you've probably heard that somewhere before. All magic has its uses, and raw magic is no different. Just because it is rarely used or taught, does not mean it is weak. Rather the other way around I would argue, because of how flexible raw magic can be."
"Okay, today, I'll teach you one of the most basic raw spells: the Magic Missile."

Grim Beginnings
For most, ghosts and monsters were fantasy. For Tessa Byrne-Reyes, they were a constant in her daily life as a reaper. The legendary gods and creatures of mythology were, to her, historical figures. From a young age, she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders, possessing what she saw as a curse but what her family considered a gift. It was her birthright, to use her abilities to guide the deceased to the afterlife of an eternity in peace or in torment. Her classmates viewed her as "the fainting girl" who would pass out in the middle of a lesson with inexplicable injuries. She experienced each death in the town of Belmont Falls, from the mundane to the gruesome. A gunshot wound in the gut, broken ribs, her heart ceasing to beat for several minutes. No one understood what caused these incidents but over the years, she gained a reputation for being abnormal. While Tessa is the freak of Belmont Falls, Fin Belmont, the charming rebel and son of the richest man in town, is her polar opposite. Knowing each other for years but never saying more than a dozen words between them, one night changes everything, thrusting them into each other's unfamiliar and daunting worlds. Together, with the help of her best friend/his ex-girlfriend Elena, they begin to unravel secrets about their town and their pasts, learning that some secrets are better left buried and grudges can be held for centuries.
