《I Will Be Recognized》21. A Pleasant Dinner

—Headmaster Warren's PoV—
"Are you telling me that two freshman boys beat up 18 juniors? Can you hear yourself right now?"
"Headmaster, there is little to no evidence on the scene. When I got there, all the juniors had sustained damage while the two freshmen were only unconscious. None of their watches were recording so I can only infer what happened. We know that other than the professors, this feat would be hard to accomplish for students. If there was an outsider who did this, it would not make sense for them to leave the two freshmen completely fine. Furthermore, I have found in the school's database that Sam is a hero so it would make sense for him to have great power. As for the other boy...he seems to be from a normal aristocrat family." The doctor reported earnestly.
"Sam? Well, no one knows what a hero can be capable of even if they are young. If it were a hero I can accept that he was able to defeat all of them. You have done well reporting this matter."
"Yes headmaster."
With that, he took his leave.
'A hero... Looks like our Magic Knight Academy will be able to prosper once again.'
I reminisced about all those years back when I was a student.
Yes. I can smell our victory in the upcoming Inter-Kingdom Competition.
—Daniel's PoV—
'Where the hell were they?'
'Seriously, did they abandon me because I ditched them?'
I couldn't find them anywhere in the cafeteria.
Sitting at an empty table I had some Purple Rabbit Stew with a side dish of herbal salad. When I had just finished the salad and was about to head on to the main dish I had been anticipating, someone came over.
"Mind if I join you?"
I took my eyes off the stew for a moment and looked at the speaker. It was Rachel.
"Sure."
I honestly didn't really mind since it was a bit lonely eating alone.

She put her tray down and sat next to me.
Looking at her tray, it looked much better than what I had. Calamari and fettuccine with some type of sauce on it.
"You want some?"
"Oh no, I'm fine."
"Well if you do I can always give you some."
"Thanks but I can always grab seconds."
"It's not good to eat too heavily. Just have some, I can't finish all this alone."
"Alright then don't mind if I do."
Since she insisted on it so much, I guess it wouldn't be too rude of me to do this. Honestly, the school cafeteria was literally a buffet so I could have just went to get some.
Her next action surprised me. Instead of putting some on my empty salad plate, she shoved a fork full into my open mouth.
I looked at her with the fork in my mouth. She was quite the beauty. Maybe I hadn't noticed it before because her hair and glasses had covered most her facial features previously. Right now, her hair was behind her ears so I could clearly see her face. A slight smirk was plastered on her face. Was she testing me or was she flirting? Heck, even if you are flirting, you shouldn't be so aggressive as a lady. Am I the man or are you the man?
I blankly stared at her for a couple seconds.
'Didn't we just meet today?'
She pulled the fork out of my mouth and started to eat next to me.
I wasn't sure what to do. Even in my previous life, I had never even held hands with a girl other than my mother. How exactly should I react to a girl making advances on me? Or am I overthinking it? Yes, she was only sharing food. Nothing more.
'I guess I should just go back to eating.'
I've never had rabbit before, even in my old world, it was rarely eaten. Over here, it seems to be a commodity.

I took a small chunk and ate it in one bite. I chewed it thoroughly before swallowing. It was rather delightful: tasted really similar to chicken meat.
Once I finished eating, Rachel seemed to have also finished.
I was a bit of a slow eater so I had thought she would finish first and leave.
Anyway, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. When I came out, I noticed she was waiting for me oddly. I ignored her and walked around in the hallways.
She was still following me...
I stopped at the side of the stairway.
"How did you get so strong?" I tried to break the silence but I didn't really know what to say.
"Aren't you strong too?"
"What do you mean? You are clearly stronger than me."
"No, you are many times stronger than me. You used a staff which you've never even used before yet you were able to beat someone."
"That...he was just easy to read." I didn't know how to respond. Should I be flattered?
"He was easy to read because you were strong."
I became more and more curious. "What is your purpose for following me?"
"Because you are strong."
"Is that it?" I felt kind of betrayed. I honestly thought she had special feelings for me or something.
She continued on, "Do you want to train with me? I know just the place."
—Rachel's PoV—
The moment I first laid my eyes on him, I knew it was him. He was a bit younger but it was definitely him.
Daniel.
Ever since I was 6, I had the ability to see the future in my dreams. The thing about this ability was that I couldn't control it. It happened on some days and didn't on others. I also couldn't pinpoint the time that I saw either. The main signifier of time was the aging of my body in the future.
At first, I had thought I was dreaming, but I later realized I wasn't when multiple events had occurred in succession.
I accepted this weird ability of mine but I was sure people would call me crazy if I told them, which was why I kept it a secret.
By utilizing future insights, I was able to train my physique and magical cultivation to extreme lengths. At the age of 8, I was recognized as a prodigy by everyone who knew me. Since, I was the only daughter of my parents, many wondered who would take control of my family. It is the norm for it to be a man who took over but I was a girl. Naturally the heir would have been my uncles but due to my amazing capabilities, my parents decided to announce me the heir as long as I found a suitable man.
After my 10th birthday, I started having dreams every night. They were all similar dreams with one man in the center of all of them. Daniel. During that incident, he saved the whole class. No one else saw, but I saw it clearly. He secretly used his hand and made a waving motion which created a type of catastrophic energy wave. With that single wave, he had wiped out the assassins.
There was also another reason why I focus on him so much. Not only was he extremely strong—no, it was exactly because he was so strong. He was much stronger than the hero yet he doesn't go in the spotlight to receive prestige. That's what made him so charming. He was humble unlike many others who were strong.
Other than that, the face he made when I fed him was just too cute!
I tried to hold it in but a grin still made its way onto my face.
It was at that moment that I thought, 'Yes, he was the one.'
I will make him fall for me. But I will need to do it before others take action.

Homeland
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER -- In Cory Doctorow’s wildly successful Little Brother, young Marcus Yallow was arbitrarily detained and brutalized by the government in the wake of a terrorist attack on San Francisco—an experience that led him to become a leader of the whole movement of technologically clued-in teenagers, fighting back against the tyrannical security state.A few years later, California's economy collapses, but Marcus’s hacktivist past lands him a job as webmaster for a crusading politician who promises reform. Soon his former nemesis Masha emerges from the political underground to gift him with a thumbdrive containing a Wikileaks-style cable-dump of hard evidence of corporate and governmental perfidy. It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier.Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do.Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.
