《Spell Bound》Chapter 1 – The Beginning

Kaden opened his eyes, “Where am I?” He was surrounded by an endless sea of unending white. There was no left or right, no up or down, everywhere he looked there was nothing and no one.

“What’s going on? What is this place?”

Doing his best not to panic. “Ok... keep it together, think logically, what do you remember last?

Went to bed, thought about how nice life would be once those stupid bills were paid off… thought about the universe, what makes it tick… I must have fell asleep. A dream, this must be a dream!

But it feels so real. Maybe this is one of those dreams you can control. Create giant Roman style bed!” A massive bed similar to ones found in ancient Rome materialized in front of Kaden.

After laying down on the bed he summoned a plate of fruit next, “Cool! I like this place. Let’s see, when in Rome I guess I would need a sexy dancing girl!”

A voice came from behind almost as soon as Kaden finished uttering those last words.

“Greetings”

Kaden sharply turned around, only to find his jaw hitting the floor as he was confronted with the site of the most beautiful women he had ever seen.

Kaden, lost in the moment, took a second to realize she had started speaking to him, “...this is a minor world you entered, it is contained within a piece of parchment located in the remains of this fort and as for what’s going on, I am answering your questions.”

“Huh, sorry what?” Kaden was a little confused.

“You asked three questions earlier, I was answering them.”

“Wait, what? Isn’t this my dream? I am dreaming. I just dreamed up a dancing girl and now you’re here”. Kaden looked at her with confusion.

Glaring at him, “This isn’t a dream, the last memories I have of my surroundings are of a battle taking place in the room outside, with the walls finally being destroyed and a fire destroying the rest of the book this page was part off. Had it not been for the rain none of this place would still be here. Now this tiny parchment trapped under a collapsed desk is all that is left.” She responded.

“What you’re saying makes no sense, if that is true, how did I get here? Can you offer me any proof?”

She continued to glare at him, “You appeared out of nowhere in the room next to the parchment, you were asleep, then you came in. If you want proof, close your eyes and look outside”.

“I look forward to waking up now… ”, he grumbled and started to close his eyes.

With his eyes closed, Kaden started to feel a strange sensation, it was as if he could sense everything in an area around himself. The only difference was where his body should be was a piece of burnt parchment. It was almost like seeing, feeling, tasting, hearing and smelling at the same time.

Kaden could taste the sharpness of the broken sword on the chair, smell the coldness of the destroyed stone floor, hear the colour of the ash on the window and much more. It was disconcerting and caused his head to spin. He instinctively reached out to steady himself on a fallen chair only to suddenly find himself actually grabbing hold of the solid oak chair leg.

Kaden opened his eyes and found himself standing in the remains of the room, everything just the way he sensed it a second earlier.

Confusion and panic paralyzed him. What the hell is going on? He thought.

It took Kaden the better part of an hour before he managed to get up “I need answers!” He walked over the collapsed desk on the floor.

Moving it aside, he bent over and picked up a torn piece of parchment and begun to examine it. She said I was in here. Kaden knew it was true somehow and began to wonder how he would get back in.

“Hey, let me in”, nothing happened. “Hello? Are you there? I said let me in.” Again nothing happened. Hmm… Kaden tried a few more times, alternating between please and a few choice profanities. Finally getting tired, he placed the parchment in the front pocket of his night shirt and sat down.

Ok, I have to figure out my next steps. Step one, survive, Step two… find someone who has answers.

“AaAaAaAaAa Awaaa”, Kaden thoughts were interrupted by the strangest sounding bird call he had ever heard. Looking up, he finally noticed the window and walked towards it. What greeted Kaden was the site of giant planet almost close enough to touch taking up over half the horizon and framed by a magnificent dark green jungle.

In that instant he forgot everything and just stood there.
