In the Violet Slaughter Valley, the sounds of screams were the most common sound. Beasts died everyday and new kings were crowned on the valley constantly. It was a tough life remaining in the valley for a long period of time. There was hardly any times where you could relax at all. If you let down your guard for even one second, a wild beast may rip out your heart and swallow it before you have the chance to even make an expression or react.
Feng Yun had come to understand this after living in the Violet Slaughter Valley for just a few days now.
It had been difficult, the beasts arriving constantly and not giving him a chance to take a breath. After all, the smell of blood in the valley attracted many beasts towards it, and all of them had a lust that trampled over any reason they may once had. One thing was for certain however, Dai Tian was correct.
These beasts were born killers.
Feng Yun strolled through the forest, not daring to make loud noises with his footsteps. He had learned to make himself unnoticeable through harsh assassin training. In his previous world, he had grown so accomplished at the art, that no enemy could see him coming until they felt the pain of a blade slicing through their throat. His green robes, which would normally be able to blend easily with his surroundings, instead made him look rather easy to be spotted.
"Damn forest, what kind of plants are born violet colored? This is complete genetic bullshit! I'm easy to be spotted now! Master...did he deliberately not tell me in order to make the challenge harder?" Feng Yun's face paled. "He-he can't be that cruel right?"
He continued to walk, his guard up and his temper flaring. He was quite upset that he wasn't able to kill like he wanted to. With his revealing clothes, a mouse could see him from a hundreds of meters away! His double pupils narrowed to fit his grumpy expression. As he walked, a particularly thick bush came into view. Instead of pushing his way through it, Feng Yun decided to cut the bush instead.
Swish!
The bush was sliced in half and Feng Yun was about to move on when suddenly, a black silhouette jumped out from behind the torn bush, fangs bared and claws aimed towards Feng Yun's face. The assailant was obviously trying to claw off his face before he could react. Furthermore, the attacker was swift and dexterous, no lack of experience being there. An ordinary cultivator may have been blinded easily and lost his combat ability.
However, Feng Yun wasn't any ordinary cultivator.
From the moment that the assailant had leaped at him, he had already drawn his sword upwards to block the claws that tried to rake across his face.
CLANG!
The collision of the two forces caused sparks to appear and pressure to be emitted. Now that the assassination had failed, Feng Yun could see clearly who his attacker was. The beast was a thin leopard with violet colored skin that perfectly blended in with it's surroundings. It's claws were nearly a foot long and it's fangs were smeared with dried blood...from an earlier kill no doubt. The leopard was quite large, it's muscles bulging and it's head large. With it's size, it could take down a grown adult easily if they weren't a cultivator.

"Grrrrrr!" The leopard seemed frustrated that it's assassination attempt was unsuccessful and reevaluated its "prey". The harmless looking boy had surprising managed to react just in time to save his life. But the violet leopard had its own pride. Just because the kid had some strength didn't mean it would back down. In fact, the leopard licked its lips, as if it enjoyed the struggle that Feng Yun would put up.
"Damn leopard, you almost raked my face. How would my own parents recognize me if they saw me after having my face torn apart?! You know what, you've got me in a bad mood. I'll make this torturous for you." The leopard growled in disdain and prepared to attack. Examining it closely, Feng Yun noticed that the animal had the strength of the Xiantian 6th Layer.
'Not a problem' he thought.
The leopard suddenly charged at him with a surprisingly quick agility that betrayed it's awesome size. However, Feng Yun understood that it was only natural. Animals like felines were extraordinarily quick with their bodies and mind boggling agility. This wouldn't stop Feng Yun however.
"Merely this much!"
The leopard's claw slashed at the air where his eyes should have been, however Feng Yun maneuvered himself with ease, dodging the blow and spinning around. He then swung the sword in a graceful movement, the blade cutting apart the air and preparing to sever the neck of the leopard. However, the leopard was quite experienced and had encountered many foes.
It quickly ducked under, avoiding the blade narrowly and then shot forward, its entire weight sailing through the air in an effort to press Feng Yun to the ground. The boy narrowed his eyes and dropped his sword on purpose, instead delivering a spinning roundhouse kick to the chest of the leopard.
BANG!
The leopard was thrown into a violet tree, and it spat out several mouthfuls of blood in response to the impact. Though it had suffered heavy injuries from the collision, it quickly lifted itself up to fight. If there was even a slight sign of weakness, then you would be dead. That was how the rules of the Violet Slaughter Valley worked.
Feng Yun smiled in an evil way. Opening his hand, the Overlord Heaven Piercer flew towards it, and he arranged himself into a fighting stance. Then, he taunted the leopard with a hand movement and beckoned the feline to come attack him. The leopard was extremely angered and it's eyes turned red. Feng Yun had thoroughly pissed it off.
"ROAR!"
The leopard ran at him, increasing it's speed as it got closer. As Feng Yun prepared himself to defend, the leopard did something unexpected. It leaped away from the path of charge it had chosen and landed on the bark of a tree, then jumping off that tree and to another and so forth. It did so at such a terrifying speed that even Feng Yun was having trouble keeping up with them.
"This damn cat. When did he get so fast?!"
The leopard seemed to move to different trees for an infinite amount of time. However, Feng Yun understood it's plan. The cat was looking for an opening, something for him to leave out for it to exploit. At the exact time he thought this, the violet shape shot from a tree aimed at Feng Yun's head. The claws of the beast were quick and agile and even Feng Yun nearly reacted to late.

SCHIIICK!
Feng Yun swerved his head at the exact same time that the leopard's claw came, the sides of the claw creating a slight cut on his smooth face. The cut began to solidify as blood poured out of the wound. Feng Yun grazed the wound as he thought about what had just happened. The leopard had increase it's speed to the point where it was extremely hard to keep up with. The leopard was much stronger than ordinary cultivators of the 6th Layer. Fortunately, Feng Yun had extremely acute senses and thus, he was able to avoid the powerful attack.
Still, he was quite stunned at the amount of killing intent behind the attack. It was unlike anything he had ever experienced before. In his previous life, there wasn't this much killing intent in any of the foes he faced. He felt...exhilarated. With both sides possessing the power to possibly eradicate the other, it was only through this that Feng Yun could grow.
"Haha, kitty, not bad. You cut me, but the same trick won't work twice. I'll put some effort into you now!" The Yuan Energy within Feng Yun's body immediately began to grow and circulate as he said this.
The leopard paid close attention to the changes that were happening while it leaped from tree to tree. The Yuan Energy within Feng Yun was growing larger and larger to the point, where the energy completely eclipsed the leopard's. The animal, despite not knowing the cultivation of the boy, knew that it had to kill him fast, or else it would be killed instead. The animal didn't even hesitate to launch itself once more when it saw that Feng Yun was perfectly still.
Yuan Energy coursed through the leopard's body as it furiously charged at Feng Yun's back without any restraint. Feng Yun, who was silently charging Yuan Energy lashed out at the leopard who was right behind him.
"Raiding Thunder Palm!"
His fist seemed to look like lightning itself as it clashed with the claws of the leopard. For a few moments, the claws of the leopard seemed to be holding out, but then Feng Yun's fist pushed it further and further backwards. It soon went so far backwards that the bones were on the verge of breaking. The leopard shrieked in despair as it's arm was torn apart by the powerful pressure bearing down upon it.
"ROOOWWWH!"
The leopard wailed in agony as it's arm became mangled and grotesque. It could not move as fast as it did before now that one of its main forms of mobility was gone. As soon as Feng Yun saw the leopard let its guard down, he immediately took the chance. He lashed out with his sword aiming to behead the monster.
The leopard tried to calm itself down, and gain it's bearings, but it was already too late. The blade was already too close and it had already lost most of it's combat capacity.
CHOP!
The leopard's head was severed from its body and flew into the air for a few seconds before gravity brought it back down. An expression of shock was plastered all over it's face and it seemed to be in disbelief that it was actually killed by a thirteen year old kid. Nevertheless, it was absolutely dead and there wasn't anything that it could do about it.
Feng Yun slowed himself down and panted hard from exhaustion. He had used up a decent amount of energy on the fight but he had gained some experience in the process. He had to say that it was a worthy fight. Feng Yun walked over to the body of the deceased leopard and carved a hole into the body with his sword. Then, he extracted the heart using his hand and held the bloody object in it for a moment before storing it in a sack that he kept in his Void Universal Manual.
"That makes 35! Not bad, but I should probably speed up. It's nearly half the first month and I only have three months to collect all three hundred beast hearts." He stared at the carcass as he decided that he should probably get away as fast as possible.
When a beast died, it's body would give off a very pungent smell that would attract numerous carnivores of great strength. Who knows who would come after this violet leopard died? As he turned around to escape from the scene quickly, the sound of rustling bushes stopped him in his tracks. Before he could even react, a gigantic bear came crashing through the undergrowth, it's claws tearing apart everything that obstructed it. The bear had a savage look in it's eyes that said to it's opponents that it would not hesitate to kill them.
The bear's eyes were colored red from bloodlust and its skin was brown, with thick and thorny fur. It roared loudly upon seeing Feng Yun's figure and the carcass of the leopard. It appeared extremely tyrannical and it's killing intent rushed forth, pressing down on Feng Yun. Surprisingly, the boy felt a little bit of pressure. Gritting his teeth, Feng Yun resisted the pressure and analyzed his new opponent.
Xiantian 8th Layer!
Feng Yun didn't feel too pressured just because of the bear's cultivation. After all, he could kill opponents up to three levels higher than him. However, against this kind of opponent, who had fought many battles, he would have to exercise extreme caution.
"It's alright. It's only one beast." Just as the words came out of his mouth, two other rustles similar to the bear could be heard clearly. Feng Yun's face paled as he turned around and discovered the eyes of a black tiger staring right at him as well as an ape with a massive build. Both of them had the same crazed look in their eyes that the bear had.
Both were also at the Xiantian 8th Layer!
"Aw hell no. You've got to be fucking kidding me!"
Feng Yun felt confident in killing the bear alone, but three Xiantian 8th Layer with this much strength was a force that even if he survived, he would sustain heavy injuries. However, the three beasts were covering all the exits and it seemed like they were intent on catching their next meal. There was no escape. The only option was to fight.
"Fine. You want to screw with this Young Master?! Come on!"
Feng Yun drew his sword and calmly watched the three beasts as they began to make their move. They all let out a roar as they pounced upon Feng Yun.
"Become stepping stones for my cultivation!" Feng Yun said as he leaped to meet them in battle.

Dear Spellbook (Rewrite)
Live. Study. Repeat. Tal never saw himself as an adventurer, but the call to adventure never much cared for his opinion. Despite his best efforts, his search for answers on the murder of his parents ever draws him into danger. Accompanied by a group of seasoned warriors, thus far Tal has gotten by on his own meager magical talents, but when one day he wakes up to find himself back in his bed of the night before, he is faced with a challenge he must conquer alone. What to expect: This story was born of an attempt to create in world lore reasons for many of the mechanics and tropes of D&D, but you do not need to know of them to enjoy the story. It's a single POV time loop story with slow paced progression fantasy elements. The story is not one of fast-paced power ups and non-stop action, but as it progresses, the action picks up. There is a lot of magic system exploration on a system built to unify the diverse magic of D&D into one cohesive magic system. The setting is an original world with familiar races and monsters but with new unique origins and motivations. The average chapter will be 2-5k words long, most being around 3k but there are a few less than 1k, due to the nature of the story telling device I used. Book 1 is complete. Posting is on hold until I finish book 2. Book 2 progress: The rough draft is done at 141656 words as of 7/9/2022. I need to reread and edit it but Im aiming for resuming chapters in September.
