《The Aether Universe》Chapter 61

Tai ignored the voice and inspected his new body. Looking at his body, it didn't look any different from how it was before, but already, Tai felt that he had control over his entire body.
You have fully merged with your darkness and have become a full darkness being.
You have gained a skill: Elemental Shapeshifting
+1 status point
Shaping his body, it was different from normal shapeshifting as normal shapeshifting kept his form solid unlike Elemental Shapeshifting which let him become darkness. If someone were to look at him, there was a big chance that they would confuse him for a shadow on the wall.
Transforming into a darkness form felt weird for Tai. When he tried to grab the blanket of his bed, his hand passed straight through and he had to concentrate to solidify his hand to grab the blanket.
"Master, you're back! I'm happy that my message went through to you. I thought it was going to take over," Nagi said, relieved to see that his master was fine and that the transformation went well.
Tai laughed. "Don't worry, Nagi. No one's gonna take over my body on my watch."
Tai experimented a few more with his body before going to sleep and found that with elemental shapeshifting, he could turn his body nearly 2d, although doing so required great concentration, it could come in handy in the future.
He could also distort his body, which he could use to try to dodge attacks that he couldn't normally take like attacks that were enhanced by an element or energy.
Jake waved goodbye to his mother as he got in the teleporter. He had been waiting for 6 months to meet up with Tai again and he was hoping he was doing fine.
"Bye, stay safe. Even though it's a primitive planet, you don't know what could happen," his mom said. "You sure you don't want your gear?"

"I'll be fine, mom. I'm not a little kid anymore. Plus, if I can't handle myself in a new planet, then why would the system hire me?"
"Fine. Oh... I'll miss you."
Jake waved goodbye to his mom as he disappeared in the teleporter, reappearing at the most populated city in the mega planet.
If Jake was registered to the planet, which was a long process, he would definitely be at the top of the leaderboard, but being registered to a planet that he wasn't born in required a long, arduous process that is too much of a pain for others to do.
Appearing in the city, a UEE soldier approached Jake. "Could you tell us what city you came from? Also, what country you lived in before the apocalypse? The UEE is just gathering info and we promise that this will be strictly confidential."
"I came from an Aether Station and I used to live in America," Jake replied.
"Sorry, but what do you mean by Aether Station?" The soldier was a new recruit so he didn't know anything that was outside of the mega planet, but the people that had higher ranks did know what Aether Stations were.
Aether Stations, similar to Aether Cities, are basically large, floating cities in space that form when there is a large amount of aether in the area. This isn't guaranteed though. When, large amounts of aether gather in one are, there are 2 ways it can progress. Into an Aether Station, or a large dungeon in space. These dungeons usually have more floors than the ones on planets and are valuable to the point that the people that control them set a dungeon tax.
"Ask your superiors." Jake walked past the guy and went to the adventurer's guild since he wanted to see how strong Tai was. "He never wanted to lose, so I'll be disappointed if he's weak."

Entering the guild building, Jake made a beeline to the rankings, checking to see if Tai was even in the Top 10.
Global Leaderboard - Sorted by level 1. Gaar'uk - Lvl. 1132 - Rank SS 2. Russel Owen - Lvl. 989 - Rank SS 3. Uvius - Lvl. 975 - Rank F 4. Tai Zenith - Lvl. 927 - Rank A 5. Keya Mianan - Lvl. 873 - Rank SS
Jake smiled, seeing Tai's name in fourth place. "Jeez, what a monster. In fact, they're all monsters. They'll definitely be important people in the future."
Waking up, Tai hopped in the shower and enjoyed his first hot shower in 6 months. In the dungeon, he would take hot baths by heating up the body of water that he was in with his ki, but that wasn't the same. Nothing could beat a nice and hot shower.
It would be good noting that the temperature that Tai had the water at would kill the average person as his endurance was so high that he could brush off the feeling of burning.
Once he was finished with his shower, he hopped out and dried himself off as Nagi shouted inside his head.
"Good morning, master! How was your sleep? What are we doing today?"
"Nagi, what did I tell you about yelling?" Tai scratched his ears, which was weird since Nagi directly spoke into his head, meaning his ears weren't affected at all. "I slept very well, thanks for asking. I'll go on a dungeon run with my sister and bring Fenrir along. We'll also finally get to see A.C. 1 which is apparently the best aether city, so they say."
"Master, every city that you're at is the best city," Nagi said, making Tai laugh.
Dressing himself up, he left his apartment and saw Fenrir waiting outside of the apartment building.
"Master. I am sorry for causing you trouble last night. You did not have to carry me," Fenrir said, bowing his head and making his snout touch the ground.

Mother of Learning
Zorian is a teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. He is a driven and irritable young man, consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, whom he resents for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, he has no time for pointless distractions or paying attention to other people's problems. As it happens, time is something he is about to get plenty of. On the eve of the Cyoria's annual summer festival, he is killed and brought back to the beginning of the month, just before he was about to take a train to Cyoria. Suddenly trapped in a time loop with no clear end or exit, Zorian will have to look both within and without to unravel the mystery before him. And he does have to unravel it, for the time loop hadn't been made for his sake and dangers lurk everywhere... Repetition is the mother of learning, but Zorian will have to first make sure he survives to try again - in a world of magic, even a time traveler isn't safe from those who wish him ill. ********************************** If anyone is interested, I have a story-related worldbuilding site that can be found here. I don't update it as often as I should, but there is a fair amount of content there already. It also contains a page with all the fanart, fan translations, audio books and the like - you can reach it directly by clicking this link. I have a patreon account for those kind people that want to give me money. It also contains info for those who want to donate via paypal. The story was originally posted on fictionpress, back in 2011. When I reached chapter 91, I started uploading the story to RoyalRoad, one chapter per day. The story will continue to be updated on fictionpress as well as here, and can be reached by clicking on this link if somebody is interested, though at this point there is nothing there that isn't also on RoyalRoad. ********************************** The cover you see on the side has been made by a fellow RoyalRoad user Sydorow.
