《The Aether Universe》Chapter 42

The monsters at the 19th level weren't any pushovers. Some of them controlled the four basic elements, fire, earth, water, and air, and some of them controlled more complex elements like lightning. This was good practice though.
One monster that controlled lightning was much faster than Tai. It had clearly invested most of its points into dexterity, but speed wasn't what determined everything. Strength and skills were also a factor in how the fight would turn out.
While roaming the 19th level, which was much bigger than the previous levels making finding the portal that much harder, Tai wasn't wearing his darkness armor, leaving many parts of his body exposed, but it only looked exposed. As he walked, killing monsters along the way, he was casting his ki around him, detecting anything that was in the area, or anything that entered the area.
After walking for some time, the light in the dungeon was slowly going out, and it would soon turn nighttime in the dungeon. Tai didn't mind, this just meant that there was a possibility of stronger monsters coming out.
Monsters stalked him in the dark, licking their sharp teeth as their saliva dripped unto the ground. To them, Tai was easy prey as they outnumbered him by at least 10:1. Tai had already detected them as they entered his detection area, his ki domain.
Tai smiled, as his blood pumped. These monsters were easily level 190 and there were over 10 surrounding him. This wouldn't be an easy fight, but he didn't care, he came for a hard fight, not an easy one.
The small ones made the first move, testing Tai's strength. Tai dodged them with ease. Even on this pitch-black night, he could still see perfectly with the help of his ki.
As he dodged, he countered, punching one into a tree and the other into the ground.

The monsters yelped. The ones that had just attacked were the smallest and the ones with the lowest experience, and they expected to kill Tai in one shot.
Tai brought out his signature weapon, his naginata made out of darkness, but this time, he imbued it with his ki. The black naginata had a dark, flaming aura covering it and one could feel its heat from a far distance.
"Is that all you got?" Tai taunted the monsters.
The monsters growled and a bigger one appeared in front of Tai, standing up. Tai inspected the big monster which was much taller than him.
This one had clearly invested in strength shown by its bulging muscles that looked like they could crush someone's head.
It had glowing, red eyes, and was humanoid, standing upright on its legs. If someone saw it in the dark, they might even confuse it for an abnormally tall human, but it was far from human. Apart from being humanoid and standing upright, it was not human-like.
Its body was covered in thick, black fur, clearly meant to blend into the dark. It had sharp fangs, and teeth that could easily pierce and crush someone's skull, and its face was shaped into a snout as it growled.
"Leave this one to me." It barked to the others, the system translating its speech so Tai could understand.
Tai decided to make the first move and vanished, appearing behind the monster. He no doubt could easily use his upgraded darkness to bind it, but relying on one skill too much would eventually fail.
Darkness wasn't invincible and it could be overpowered by someone stronger, leaving him with no other strong skills if he only focused on darkness.
He swung his naginata at the back of the monster, the dark blade grazing its fur as the monster dodged the last second.

It growled as it put out its fur that had caught on fire and charged at Tai, its claws by its side, and its mouth open. With its bulky muscles, it was slow, but that was only when compared to Tai. For anyone else, this monster would be way faster than most people.
As Tai dodged the fast attacks, his control over his body grew and grew. His perception also slowed down, allowing him to see the monster's movements clearly and better control his own.

Every time he dodged, he would counter, attacking the monster at its most vulnerable spot and making it groan in pain. After a few of his attacks, parts of the monster's fur had been burned and it was also covered in burns although its dark skin made it hard to see.
With each slash, the monster would get burned and would start bleeding from its new cut. The wound would slowly heal, but judging from the speed of it, this monster hadn't invested that much in endurance and had most likely focused on strength making it nothing but a big, dumb, tank.
Deciding to just end it, since the fight was getting boring as the monster had yet to even hit him, he thrust his naginata through its heart, killing it as its corpse fell on the ground.
The flaming aura that covered the blade of the naginata evaporated any blood that touched it, making the naginata clean from any blood or grime that went on it.
The monsters growled around him, but Tai could feel that they weren't fazed by their comrade dying. It was like they were ok with it and didn't mind.
Another monster appeared in front of him with similar appearance to the last, but this one was smaller. Although looking small, Tai knew that this one was strong as he looked at its lean, and compact muscles. Its legs were also different from the last, clearly augmented for speed.

After three centuries, post-industrial civilization threatens to shatter. Megacorporations accrue enormous power by linking together nations turned insular in the aftermath of yesterday's global multilateralism; a reinvigorated United Nations threatens the crumbling sovereignty of state by enforcing human rights independently of member nations, and the UN and others patrol for mass destruction technologies in the ever-accelerating, ever-democratizing arms race. Another environmental collapse looms, visions of the last haunting memories and consciences of the lower and middle classes around the globe. That is the reality that virtual child Colton is rehabilitated into. A system shock, a brave new world and above all a regurgitation. Rescued from being a tool in cyberspace and grown a new body, Colton couldn't care less about the new meatspace world. He wants to go back, back to the electronic glow that was his home. - - - - This is a MyNoWriMo entry. Lesser known than NaNoWriMo, MyNoWriMo takes place in January and is otherwise exactly the same. The goal is to finish this as quickly as possible and then possibly circle back and tidy things up. In the meantime there'll be no editing and helter-skelter story planning since I didn't do it beforehand :/
