《True Daughter of Storm》Chapter 0163

Chapter 0163
Dodgeball is the stupidest game ever. Adults separate children into groups and somehow one side always has the athletically inclined children while the other side was composed of the rejects. Meh, if you aren’t in the ‘in’ crowd then you could be considered a reject.
Anyways, one side throws the ball and the other side has to dodge it.
Now imagine some of the balls those gifted children were throwing were not the soft inflatable kind but the rock hard magnets and you are the metal it was attracted to.
That was the sensation Tempest felt when the chaotic rift opened.
Tempest knew she was more sensitive to the power of chaos. It was how she traversed the weird space above the Eternal Spirit Guild Headquarters and Cardis couldn’t. When the chaotic rift opened, the power of chaos charged out and headed straight for her.
Like those poor unfortunate souls who became victims of the stupid game previously mentioned, Tempest’s first instinct was to dodge it.
That didn’t work.
Trying to dodge the chaotic power was like trying to dodge eddies of air, stupid and impossible to do. The chaotic power swirled around Tempest like a swarm of butterflies fluttering in the wind. Once it was done with its initial greeting it swamped Tempest like a gigantic wave, knocking Tempest onto her butt with everything they had.
Tempest was not appreciative. Anyone who had a bad fall or was knocked on down knows the pain associated with a bad fall. Children pick their butts right back up and go one with life as if it was an everyday occurrence. Adults suffer a few scrapes and bruises, get the wounds tended to, hopefully, learn from their mistakes and go on with their lives. When senior citizens fall, they get sent to the hospital for surgery. Recovering from surgery is not fun.

No one wants to suffer from a fall.
Well, except that one old dude Tempest knew who was glad he did fall. They found a tumor in his body when they were doing all the tests to see if he suffered any internal injuries from the fall. He was glad he fell.
Tempest was never gracefully by any stretch of the imagination. Her fall was an unwieldy mass of arms and legs tangled with her mage robe. Worse of all, Tempest landed on a rock.
“Damn One Thousand Years of Death,” Tempest screamed then unleashed her powerful combination attack to ease her pain. “Chaotic Storm.”
Tempest was reluctant to use her combination spell because it destroys everything in its path, loot included. Every time she thought about all the treasures she could have gotten from those destroyed bandits, her heartaches.
This time Tempest was forced to use the spell.
There was a limit to how much chaotic power Tempest’s body can withstand. The amount of power surging into her was too much even for the chaotically inclined Tempest. She could either explode from the crazy power inside of her or she can channel it into a spell. Tempest chose the latter.
The location where she landed when she fell helped spurred her decision.
Mini raging storms formed, whipping both the mages and the magical beasts alike with sharp blades of wind, piercing ice shards and bolts of lightning.
Due to Cardis’ training, Tempest was able to control her powers better. Before, Tempest relied on brute force, instinctive control and a little bit of ingenuity to get by. Now she relies on brute force, cognitive control and a lot of ingenuity to get by.
The last time Tempest cast Chaotic Storm, she created one gigantic storm to destroy the bandits. She didn’t understand how the spell worked nor did she understand how to control the spell.

She still didn’t understand how the spell work, however, her control got better.
Instead of creating one gigantic storm, Tempest created multiple mini storms to attack her enemies. This time, she made sure the bodies of the magical beasts were salvage. Tempest wasn’t skilled enough to kill the magical beasts in a clean and efficient manner using Chaotic Storm.
As for the mages caught up in her spell, she was able to weaken the damage of her spells by applying her understanding of Aspects of the Storm: The Eye of the Storm.
Combined spells are exponential more powerful than regular one element spells given the same amount of mana used.
Aspects are the next level of combined spells. Aspects vary depending on the elements used. The combined elements of wind, water, and lightning create storms. The Aspects Tempest used has to be the Aspect of the Storm.
There are five Aspects of the Storm: The Calm Before the Storm, A Touch of Storm, The Eye of the Storm, The Lingering Storm and The Aftermath of the Storm.
Tempest touched the surface of the Aspects of the Storm when she crossed the weird space above the Eternal Spirit Guild’s headquarters. She didn’t completely grasp the underlying concepts of the Aspects, but she understood enough to apply it to her spell.
Therefore, most of the mages were able to escape the brunt of the spell.
Tempest was not charitable enough to let Hannah Trellis off when she had a perfectly good chance to strike at the thief. Sadly, again it was not meant to be. The scheming two-faced snake blocked Tempest’s attack by using the two mages closest to her as a shield.
Damn it.
Tempest consoled herself with, “At least I got the loot that came out of the chaotic rift.”
The chaotic rift did spit out treasures. The chaotic power carried those treasures to Tempest when they rushed her. When the chaotic power knocked her down with everything it had previously, the treasures were included with everything it had.
Tempest cast her combined spell to kill the magical beasts but she also intended to use the effects as a smokescreen, blocking everyone’s view of her.
The sequence of events happens so fast that only the mages closest to her noticed the anomalies. Her group members were smart enough not to say anything yet.
Once the effect of her spell wore out, Tempest started fighting the magical beasts like nothing out of the ordinary happened.
“Ahhhh!” A mage screamed as his arm was bitten off by a dark malevolent creature oozing evil and hatred.
“Run! It’s a level six chaotic beast, Abyssal Chimera.”
As one, all the mages scattered in different directions, praying the Abyssal Chimera didn’t follow them.
Tempest had to hand it to her group members. Those guys were no slouches. Even though they only been a group for a couple of days, they had a tacit understanding. Tempest’s group immediately cast all the movement spells they know and burned all the As Swift as the Wind and Flash Step charms they got from Tempest and flee in the opposite direction of the Abyssal Chimera.
During their mad dash for safety, Tempest heard the maniacal laughter coming from a man observing the entire situation from high above.
