Chapter 0118
Tempest thought about and realize she never did show him her weapon. Seeing nothing wrong with it, Tempest grabbed her to two swords and hand it to Cardis.
When Cardis touched her short sword, he was immediately drenched with water. A cold wind blew over Cardis, trying to make the already cold water colder.
“Damn contrary sword!” Cardis tossed the sword to the ground before waving his hand and sending the wind away. Cardis soak clothes began to dry and steam surround Cardis like a halo, giving him a mysterious aura.
Cardis shot Tempest a menacing look. “Of all the sword you had to chose you had to chose that temperamental weapon.”
As if protesting Cardis harsh assessment of it, an about of heavy rain fell on Cardis. This time, before the rain can even touch him, it evaporated.
“I could have sworn the sword didn’t have a weapon spirit.” Tempest murmured. She had to reassess the sword considering all the unnatural phenomena falling on Cardis.
“The Cloud Sword doesn’t have a weapon spirit. It is forged out ten thousand year old Ice Shards found at the bottom of the Lightless Chasm in the deepest part of the Mirage Sea, grounded Mystic Rainbow Pearls, Frozen Yin Essence, Breath of the North Wind, and Woven Whispers. Every one of the materials used to create the sword is hard to find. Some, like Woven Whispers take a million years for the natural mana of the Cardinal Realm to form a wisp of it, much less a full breath used to create Woven Whispers.
“Even a mere mention of the materials used to forge the sword would cause cultivators to stare at you with envy and greed much less the sword made from those heavenly materials itself. Furthermore, heavenly weapons with cold, elusive or yin type attributes are rarer than a phoenix feather or a unicorn horn. Only a Grandmaster Weaponsmith can mould the material into a suitable weapon and only Valstein possess the right type of fire to create a delicate weapon made up of cold and elusive attributes.”

“You know sure know a lot about the Cloud Sword.” Tempest casual comment sent Cardis into a bout of anger.
Cardis sneered. “I was there when it was being forged. Damn Valstein and his stubborn idiotic ways. When he became a Grandmaster forger, the bastard went into a depression. Boo hoo hoo, I’ve reached the pinnacle of forging. There is nothing to challenge me anymore, boo hoo hoo. I couldn’t stand his moping anymore, so I brought all these hard to find materials and challenge him to forge a cold type weapon and out came the Cloud Sword. Damn bastard boast he can create a weapon with a weapon spirit given enough time and material and he created a defective weapon. Ha, what a joke of a grandmaster forger!”
“Why does the sword hate you then?” The Cloud Sword pranked Cardis the moment he touched it. Tempest sense no malice in the sword action, however, the sword doesn’t have a weapon spirit for it to have malice.
“Each material used in forging the Cloud Sword had a chance to gain sentience in itself. When the fool Valstein used the material to forge the Cloud Sword, he had to destroy what little self-awareness the material possess. There were some leftover resentments there. Then Valstein failed to create a sword that had a weapon spirit and can never form a weapon spirit. Whatever resentment left in the sword became outright hatred. I was deemed guilty by association, so the sword pranks me whenever I touch it.”
Tempest didn’t understand. If a sword doesn’t have a weapon spirit and can never form one, then how can it possess a quirky nature? Judging from Cardis expression, he doesn't want to go into the theory behind the strange behavior of the sword.
“What do think of my sword?”
Cardis looked at the sword, then look at Tempest. “A good match. You can’t use a weapon that can form a weapon spirit and the Cloud Sword can’t form a weapon spirit. The Cloud Sword contain the essence of wind and water, which makes it a good match for you. It would have been a perfect match if it had a lightning element with it.”

“Then what about this sword?” Tempest present her katana to Cardis. “I decided to dual wield. The Cloud Sword was my first choice and this is my second choice.”
Cardis was not in a hurry to touch the Tempest new weapon. Any weapon a True Child of the Elements wield had to be special. The spirits would not allow the weapons to form a weapon spirit, yet the quality of the weapon had to be high enough to withstand the power generated by the spirits. Weapons bearing those two qualities tend to be quirky if not downright strange.
It isn’t sentience. The weapon doesn’t have sentience. It can never form sentience either. It is more like a direct expression of the elements taken physical form.
Cardis wasn’t lying when he said the Cloud Sword didn’t like him because he was the indirect cause of its current state. Water and fire don’t mix. Although he also possesses the wind element, wind and water are more attuned with each other. The two elements influence each other without destroying each other. Fire consumes oxygen, a part of the wind element, to grow. Hence, although Cardis has the wind element, in a battle between a wind water mage and a wind fire mage, the wind water mage has an advantage.
Cardis wanted to hint at the direct influence the elements have over the physical world, but given Tempest dense personality, he had to smack the information right into her face, something he doesn’t want to do. She needs to learn on her own. He is only here to guide her.
After he ascertains the weapon doesn’t have any eccentricity, Cardis test out the sword.
Tempest was amused at the cautiousness a legendary mage displayed in front of an inanimate sword.
Then he swung the sword.
Again, Tempest was caught up in the elegant display of swordsmanship. It was one of the most beautiful show in her life. Cardis was like a prima donna, a ballerina at the height of her career giving her best performance on stage. Each swing of the sword was done with an unearthly grace yet filled with an indescribable passion.
Tempest was held captivated by the show… until the sword unsegmented, wrapped around Cardis and shocked him in the butt.
“Damn it!” Cardis yelled as Tempest laughed herself silly.
Cardis glared at the katana. Everytime he looks cool in front of his little Successor, something always comes and mess it up.
“Lightning Twist, a chain whip sword created out of a heavenly lightning. Yes, only you would choose such a weapon.”
“Ehh?”
“Done laughing yet?”
“Not really. What did you say this sword was made of?”
“There are other materials used to create Lightning Twist or as some would call, Heavenly Retribution, but the main component of the chain whip katana is nine bolts of tribulation lightning. A bastard body cultivator was undertaking the lightning tribulation. He knew he wasn’t ready to undertake the lightning tribulation but he did it anyways. Instead of withstanding the lightning tribulation like all other cultivators, he bastard decided to deflect the lightning strike and the people he deflected the lightning to was the people he invited to protect him during the tribulation. When they died from the lightning, he deflects the lightning onto innocent mortals. A lightning mage was in the area at the time. He was able to capture the final nine lightning strike and it was later used to forge Lightning Twist.”
“Oh wow. My luck is very good. I got two amazing swords with astounding history and best of all, make you look like a fool.”
“How the last part the best thing about the sword?”
“When I mess up, I’ll remember this moment and console myself with the image of you being pranked. Even a legendary mage like yourself make mistake, then the mistake I make is nothing. I can’t look as bad as you did.” Tempest giggled like a loon with Cardis looking on.
Smack.
“Yes, that’s it.” Cardis had an epiphany. “That’s the feeling of a great teacher imparting their knowledge.”

To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here
