Chapter 0081

Tempest had said it a thousand times before and she’ll stand by her ideology - fate is a b*tch!

After she had approached her potential mentor, he wrapped her into his embraced like one of a protagonist in a romance movie and brought her to the nearest room… in a brothel.

Fate, b*tch.

Fate must have heard Tempest because it seems like it wants to make Tempest someone else b*tch.

After she had approached her potential mentor, he wrapped her into his embraced like one of a protagonist in a romance movie and brought her to the nearest room…

She can say that fate has an ironic sense of humor. Just when she made her escape, she’d end up where she started.

At least she was moving up in the world. The room Cardis brought her to was decorated better than the room Madam Vynn was so proud of in her establishment.

Each individual piece of decoration from the jade lion on the table to the porcelain vase at the corner of the room was exquisitely crafted by a master using high quality materials that can attract the natural energy. Furthermore, each piece was artfully arranged, creating a formation that attract energy into the room. Cultivators can increase their energy absorption two to three times faster in the room than they would outside.

The energy gathering formation tells Tempest the price of the room isn’t cheap.

“A beautiful room for a beautiful lady.” Cardis softly whispered words into her ears like a lover would. Each word, each breath, caress her sensitive ears, sending shivers down her spine.

Cardis put his hand on her chin, angling her face so that they can stare deep into each other’s gaze. Tempest notice his gaze held a hint of fire, reminiscent of fiery passion on a sultry night. A woman can lose herself in his warm gaze as she falls deeper and deeper into his seduction.

With deliberate movements, as if it was his intention all along, he gently wipes away a smear of dirt on her cheeks then he straighten her clothes before settling her into her seat.

The crazy bastard took the seat opposite of her, looking like a lion ready to toy with its prey.

Tempest never experienced any form of seduction before, but she can tell when someone is trying. Never before had she been glad she watch all those romantic movies she previous thought were stupid and a waste of her time. She wouldn’t have watched them but after a night of watching back to back horror movies, she had to watch something else to wipe away the fear the scary movies invoked.

She can tell Cardis wasn’t trying to seduce her to seduce her. The bastard was so used to flirting with the opposite sex; it became second nature to him.

Charming a woman to a soft putty, malleable in his hands is a bonus he takes ample advantage of.

Tempest may know what he’s up to, but it doesn’t mean she has to like it. She glared at the pervert.

Tempest wanted to hit the man but she can’t find a reason to do so. She can’t accuse of doing pervert things to her because he was only cleaning her up. He looked more like a concerned father than a sexual predator and if she pointed out the sexual undertone in his actions, he can counterattack and accuse her of thinking improper thoughts and slandering him.

“Let get down to business shall we?”

“Not even a thank you for the care and concern I’ve just demonstrated?” Cardis pouted like a child denied of candy and stared accusingly at Tempest with misty eyes.

The change from a passionate man to an innocent child threw Tempest off her tracks. She can’t get a good reading on the man. It isn’t saying much. Tempest isn’t great at reading people in the first place. Proof: Eric, the betrayer.

Instead of playing his game, Tempest decided to get to the point. “I want you to be my mentor.”

“Do you even know who I am before asking me to be your mentor?” Cardis asked, this time going for the shy approach. He bashfully peeked at before turning his head away with a blush.

The fast change in personality freak the hell out of Tempest yet she persevered. “Cardis Gourd, Son of Volcano.”

Cardis stiffen at Tempest’s word, the mask of the decadent young master was gone and its place was the face of a coldhearted killer who built his reputation on a mountain of bodies. His amber eyes lost the lazy passionate look and turn sharped as a razor as he assesses Tempest.

“Who sent you?”

“No one.”

“Do you know what this is?” Cardis asked, hold up a jade token inscribed with strange symbols Tempest cannot decipher.

“No.”

“This jade token has an illusion inscription inscribed on it. It is capable of blocking even the most skilled mages from seeing how I truly look. Unless you master a strong eye technique that can see through illusions, all you would see is a charming red hair black eye man. You shouldn’t be able to tell who I am when I am wearing this jade token unless you have been tracking my movement ever since I left the guild. Now, I ask again, who sent you?”Underlying those words is the will of a man who has killed people as easy as cutting vegetable.

Wait, as easy as killing an ant. Never in Tempest wildest imagination does she see him cutting vegetables. He’s too refine for mundane chores.

“No human sent me.”

“Oh, then what is the purpose of this nonhuman master of yours?” The ill-suited cold assassin morphed into the friendly next door neighbor. The crazy next door neighbor who goes can kill with a smile when he gets off his meds type of neighbor, but Tempest thought the smiling dement demon suited him better than the frigid killer.

“I need a teacher, and you were the most suitable one to teach me.”

“I refuse. The teacher-student relationship is a sacred bond between mages, more important than the bond between a parent and child. I refuse to desecrate the bond by accepting a student with an ulterior motive.”

“The teacher-student bond might be very sacred, but you are the type to do things on a whim, regardless of the sanctity of the bond. To refuse me using the flimsy excuse is pathetic. What else do you have?”

“Do I need an excuse to refuse your request? We aren’t related to each other. I don’t owe you anything and you don’t owe me anything. There is no reason for me to accept your request.”

“The reasoning suits you much better than the one you gave before.” Tempest thought for a moment before coming to her decision. “You are right. You don’t have to accede to my request because there is nothing between us. I was rashed with my approach. For that, all I can say is I’m sorry. I’ll keep this in mind when I approach the next suitable candidate.”

Tempest got up, patted her butt and was about to leave when Cardis stopped her. “Did I say you can leave?”

“Isn’t our business done? I asked you to be my mentor and you refused.”

“I asked who sent you. You didn’t give a definite reply.”

“Would you believe me if I told you?”

“Try.”

“The spirits told me.”
