《A lazy king》Interim: Upon the scale of souls

I existed.
That was the only way to describe it.
For a time long past reason I existed as an immaterial being. I had no body. No form of physical existence. It was just the essence of my soul and the memories within.
Until at some point long after I had relived my life for an incalculable number of times Something foreign entered my area of consciousness.
I found myself on one end of a set of what must have been divine scales. It seemed my existence was being measured. Before me stood a being of incalculable size. It had six arms and blue skin, it reminded me of the deities from Indian mythology. As it pondered me, I pondered it.
‘What exactly are you?’
It was the first original thought I had had in what seemed an eternity.
“What….you don’t actually remember me? It’s like this every time Einst—ah you’re now called Thomas.”
Suddenly as if cold water had doused me, I remembered.
‘Rhicter…..Richter Kaufmann?’
“That is what you called me in your last life. You said I reminded you of a judging merchant.”
‘Ah yes….but why?’
“Always the forgetter, I am the one that….I guess you would call it now by saying…I am the one who checks up on
you…..makes sure you’re ready for a higher existence.”
Suddenly our setting changed.
I had a material body now.
I was on a bed.
Not on any ordinary bed, on the bed that one would find in a doctor’s office.
Richter stood before me, checking what could only be guessed as my blood pressure.
‘I suppose I should call you Dr. Kaufmann now?’
There was a slight grin on the blue bodied doctor’s face.
“I suppose. It seems your sense of humor improved since the last time we talked.”

More memories flooded into my ethereal existence.
‘I believe your right…..are you still checking for the same thing?’
“Yes…… I am weighing your soul. You were quite close the last time. Remember?....I don’t suppose you do. Anyways I had
reasoned that one more lifetime and you would be ready to ascend to a similar existence as me.”
‘Oh really?’
At this point Dr. Kaufmann frowned slightly as he stepped away from my existence.
“Yes……however, you didn’t live the full life you were supposed to.”
Now he gave me a more confused look.
“Except…you….you didn’t act how we had predicted.”
He showed me a rueful grin this time.
“No…you took the one route that we predicted you wouldn’t take, not in a hundred-thousand repetitions! Your life ended
before it was supposed to!”
His look now changed to one of exasperation.
“Because of it, humanity on earth has been set back nearly five hundred years! You and Cecily were a once in a thousand
years combination! You would have solved the Alcubierre drive! And your children!...oh your children would have built the
physical object! In truth….you were supposed to have died on an entirely different planet from earth.”
My non-existent heart sunk at this.
‘So… in reality, I would’ve gotten what I had set out to do……….if I hadn’t died.’
“Yes, if you hadn’t died.”
At this point we both looked down at the ethereal floor of the non-existent hospital room.
“But that’s in the past. Anyways we can’t drop you back onto earth anymore. Your accumulated memories would begin to resonate too strongly given your near ascendant state.”
‘Uuhhhh…ok?’
Dr. Kaufmann grimaced.
“It appears we will have to dump you in some planet with less chance of resonance. Hopefully it’ll stop all memories from

returning. If not only the ones from this life should originate.”
I leaned back and crossed my non-existent arms.
‘So where are you going to send me to?’
At that point I watched as Dr. Kaufmann’s expression zoned out as if he was focusing on something far off somewhere
else.
“The consensus is to drop you off in a world that could use someone with a high soul density. This world has already been selected. It’s really quite the problem child.”
Dr. Kaufmann shook his head and shrugged his shoulders.
“For whatever reason the souls there have a very difficult time gaining soul density; I suppose part of the problem is that over there soul density can gift them very easily with tangible rewards on their plane of existence. It’s quite annoying, given that they are so easily corrupted by these rewards and rapidly lose soul density once again.”
‘What are these rewards?’
He looked at me and gave a mischievous grin.
“You’ll find out when you get there.”
He let out a sigh as he removed the blood pressure cuff.
“Not that you’ll remember that they’re rewards, or even this conversation.”
‘…..Hmm I suppose that’s about right isn’t it…..that I won’t get to keep my memories.’
Dr. Kaufmann’s mouth gave a lopsided twitch to show that he at least sympathized. I sighed as I looked up at the ceiling
before I recalled a bittersweet memory from my current life.
‘Cecily…..she really would laugh if she saw this. Saying something like, “of course you’d lose all your memories! You’re such a forgetful idiot.” I hope she’ll be ok.’
“She’s predicted to live to an old age. But she’ll never marry and won’t ever solve the Alcubierre Drive.”
My ethereal body began to tear up as I looked back at Dr. Kaufmann.
‘That’s too sad…I would’ve hoped she could have found someone to make her happy.’
“Unfortunately for you both, you and her are the only ones meant for the other. You are one of the few ‘perfect’ couples in
existence, fated to be together throughout time and space.”
It was then that he seemed to remember something.
“Oh.. yeah, congratulations on finding her again after looking for so long!”
‘huh?’
Dr. Kaufmann then pushed me away as an ancient memory briefly flashed in my mind, a memory that caused my essence to burn like fire in happiness. The love that I held for HER flared throughout my existence as I began to tumble through space, the non-existent hospital room receding to a point in the distance and then disappearing.
I once again simple existed as an immaterial being. Though I now felt suffused with light as the memories of all my
lifetimes before hand returned and I remembered HER.
Then at some unknown point, given that time didn’t exist nor could it ever. I completely ceased to exist as some
immaterial soul.
I was being born once again!

Sorry for the wait, given the length. I decided since this was my second I'd try to write chapters based around ideas, or parts of the story I want to share in one sitting. Therefore bear with me as chapter length will be subject to drastic changed based on the content. Anyways do please rate, subscribe, review, and comment. I love seeing my story raise in 'stats' as people pay attention to it and it motivates me to write more!
