《Master of Learning (Color coded)》Chapter 35 Finishing dungeons

Everyone wakes up and we pack the tent up. Gobber is going to leave his dire wolf and big spider to protect our equipment. Thinking about it. Maybe next time I'll bring a few gnolls with me to work as guards when we enter the dungeons. We'll take today a lot slower than last night. There is no reason to rush. We slowly make our way back to where we were. Far less enemies since they haven't been reformed by the mana in the area yet.
I head back into the section of the room the trap was sprung. Definitely a sign of a rare item alter. Maybe it would've been better to kill the adventurers... I would like to know how this trap works completely though. I spend an hour deconstructing it while everyone stands guard. I realize I'm being greedy and wasting time but it might help later. Finally finished we move on.
Secret Beast tamer passive skill Trap proficiency- able to make and set-up traps
What!? Knowledge is pouring into my head that might be useful later on. I know how to make pressure sensors and motion sensors with mana now. I can make traps that will cast magic if someone touches the pressure sensor or if the pass through the motion sensor.
This will be good for booby trapping my treasure room. It might also help when setting up a perimeter to guard us during the night. A big problem I see with the rare tent is it's soundproof. Meaning if we were attacked I would have had to run into the tent to get help. So the further away I or whoever is keeping watch can see enemies, the better. Even a trip line attached to a flare scroll aimed into the sky would help warn of intruders.
We head further in. This is a tier two dungeon, so there shouldn't be many floors. After searching a bit more we find the boss room. Dungeon tiers scale up to tier six. Then you can do raid dungeons which scale to tier six as well. I should learn how to make dungeons to increase everyone's levels while at the fortress. You can only do that with tier one dungeons so the monsters are going to be weak.
We prepare for the boss room. I don't have my crossbow anymore so I'll be taking a more supportive role this time. I explain a few of the bosses we might be fighting. Seeing as it is a tier two we have an extremely high boss pool that might happen. So I only go over the more common ones. If it's a rare boss I'll warn everyone and explain him before he gets a chance to surprise kill anyone.
Casting haste on all the front liners before we enter. I see a huge lizard man, at least twice as big as a normal one. It also has four arms and it's wielding to great axes, one on each side of him. I wait to see what is going to happen. Thankfully this is a common boss and a particularly easy one at that. Gobber has taken the main role of tank for now. Blocking both axes while everyone else whittles the boss down.
Activating my harmonicas. I pull out my knife cannon, if possible I wouldn't like to rely on my knives cannon for this. I fire it at one of his arms cutting through it. That will make one of his attacks less powerful and easier to dodge. Gobber is doing well. He hasn't been hit yet and has put in plenty of damage. I cast haste on him again as soon as it wears off.

Slowly but surely whittling him down. I wish I had my crossbow. I don't want to waste mana before I know exactly what the boss is capable of. Gobber took a hit to his shoulder. I go to cast but it looks like Pokodo is on it. The boss is starting to get woozy, rocking back and forth and trembling a bit because of blood loss.
Still not wanting to drop my guard I fire off some magic, ignite and plague. The injuries he has are burning and rotting at the same time. I cast hex on him weakening his defense and that's the final straw for the boss to fall. WHAT!? That's it? No enrage mode when he was near death... Very easy... Easier than I remember and compared to some of the other fights... This seemed too easy! I guess it's because everyone else has been getting stronger too.
I shouldn't doubt their skills. Gobber is getting stronger and stronger. At this point I don't even think I needed to be here but it was still experience. A rare dropped but it was a dagger that increased stealth strike one tier. Which I've already replaced with assassinate. Judging by the enchant it's also one I have from the rogue tree.
So I'll give it to the gnoll thief in the group. No new skills or anything from this boss… I'm slightly disappointed. We head towards a tier 3 dungeon. I'll have to borrow a crossbow for it since I'll feel useless if I can't help... Seriously disappointed at the boss. What a freaking pushover.
We head towards the next dungeon. The difference between tier two and three isn't that much. Still we might end up struggling on this dungeon because of some unforeseen reason. It has only been a single day since we left the fortress, I did manage to get a level so it wasn't a wasted trip and every rare we get will help us later.
I learned the beast rider and thieves names. Since they're the captains of each group and have managed to not die in the dungeon. I'll learn them because of that... Zergnar(beast tamer) and Nargzar(thief). Maybe I won't end up remembering there names even trying to though. Gnolls have confusing names. I remember when I asked for every ones names when I first met. Someones name was just him growling! Even besides that, all their names are very similar. It's similar to how goblins all have "gob" in their names.
The dungeon was less then a days travel from the last one. We make it just before dark. We set-up camp and this time I'll get a good four hours of sleep first then take over second watch. Zergnar (beast rider) is keeping watch first. He wakes me up and I keep watch next, no problems. Everyone wakes up and we head inside. This time we pack up the tent and load it onto Gobber's dire wolf. We'll need every single person and animal to insure best chances.
The tent shouldn't weigh more than twenty pounds so it should be fine. Even so, I told the dire wolf to stay in the back for now. I try to make sure the tent doesn't get punctured. This dungeon isn't the same as the last one. The last one was water themed and this is definitely time magic themed. Quite frankly the hardest dungeon theme, I start having regrets we came here.
The first pack we fight is haste horned rabbits. They are extremely fast and propel there bodies at you with their horns pointed. They're extremely hard to stop and kill with weapons. So I cast string shot in front of us in every hallway. Then lure the horned rabbits into it. They're too stupid to avoid it, we easily clean them up after that. We fight a few more packs then we see something different. It's a blink monster.
It's essentially a monster that can teleport. We have to watch our back line. So I pull out my shield and we push all our backs together. The blink monster decided to target my direction. Besides their teleport ability, they are very weak. I instantly impaled it with some control nature magic I had been chanting since before he teleported. That would be a good blue mage skill to gain. I hope I unlock it.
We head further in and manage to make it to the second floor. More haste horned rabbits, more blink monsters. We also ended up fighting a few time mages on this floor. Hasting the haste horned rabbits make them fast enough to almost break through the spider silk. Barely not enough though they still get tangled. Time mages only being a support class, often try to run away. A few crossbow bolts full of poison stops that though. We make it to the third floor which is a safe floor by the looks of it. Sometimes there's an empty room for downtime. To make sure you're ready for the next room or to regroup after a failed attempt at the boss. Since we started fresh today, we should be fine to continue without a break.
We push forwards again more and more enemies. I reach level sixteen fighting six haste horned rabbits. The floors almost seem like they're getting easier. I see an obvious trap ahead. The lower tier dungeons, traps are pretty obvious. Two different paths to go. One leads left but has tiny holes in the walls. The other leads right but is covered in blood. Chances are if we go left we'll be shot full of arrows. Thinking that I end up crawling along the walls of the left path to see if there was any loot or hidden path but it's a dead end.
We head right and down to the fifth floor. The boss should be on this floor. More of the same enemies just in bigger groups. These enemies would've made mince meat out of any unprepared group so I'm not knocking the monsters. I had a perfect counter in the form of spider silk. Anyone else would have had to devise another strategy or risk being impaled by the rabbits. With no way to stop the rabbits you would need a white mage who's on point with healing or a very good tank that would be able to stop multiple enemies at choke points. We push to the boss room.
We enter the room and there is nothing visible in the room. Well that is peculiar. Thinking back on my previous life I know what it is!
“Retreat! Retreat!”
Its already too late! The doors closed behind us. This boss is one you can't retreat from. Shit!
“It's a lesser displacer beast! It can be invisible, intangible or teleport but only one of those things at one time.”
I make a nature wall, then I make a roof to it.
“Healers into the back here everyone else protect them!”
We pile into the freshly made structure. I hope its claws aren't strong enough to cut through the hardened earth. I keep strengthening it and building up the walls slowly. We wait almost five minutes before it shows up. Still invisible someones weapon touches something. He attacks just in time for it to turn visible and go intangible. The blade goes straight through it doing nothing. As soon as the blade swings through the lesser displacer beast. It vanishes again probably teleporting to safety. Shit why such a hard boss.
I'm just glad it's a lesser displacer beast. It should only have one poisonous tail and one head. Regular displacer beasts have two poisonous tails and are twice as big and harder to kill. Finally greater displacer beasts have two heads four tails and are giants in comparison to regular displacer beasts. Greater displacer beasts are raid dungeon bosses though.
This boss is a smart one, normally bosses can only attack. Some still retain intelligence though. The boss that killed me in the previous life was a human with all of his senses. He was the halfway point boss in a tier six dungeon. Most people wouldn't assume he wasn't strong but he managed to wipe out quite a few groups. He was using all of the rare and legendary gear the previous groups dropped.
His boss room was like a maze that he knew like the back of his hand. Hitting then hiding. Waiting for the party numbers to dwindle. I was the only one left and I barely managed to hold him off. He eventually wiped out our whole party. I doubt anyone has killed him yet... I can't remember much from my past life. It feels like most of my memories are still locked away behind some hidden wall. I've just recently remembered how I died in my previous life.
This displacer beast has the same intelligence as that human did. It's already been an hour since that last attack. It's waiting for us to get impatient. I built up the defenses to make it a mini house now. The entrance is only big enough for one person to need to guard so we can take shifts. Gobber took first watch.
The beast must know how strong he is because he didn't bother with trying anything while Gobber was on watch. The next was the Zergnar(beast rider) not riding his pet. A few times the displacer beast attacked but didn't do any huge damage or take any damage. Next was Nargzar, or would be if he had weapons long enough to guard properly. The next was me. I knew something was going to happen on my turn to guard.
The pets couldn't guard because the displacer beast could easily injure them with its claws or tail then retreat before any retaliation could be done. I've dropped into complete defense. I have my knife cannon ready. I didn't bother pulling my sword. I had the cannon aimed at the entrance, the only way the lesser displacer beast can attack from. It's big enough to hit if he appears.
While guarding I think of something that could reveal the lesser displacer beasts location. I start making the ground wet. I put all my attention onto the ground that now is filled with puddles of water. I see movement, its still too early to fire the cannon. It could be him trying to get me to waste the attack.
The next puddle forward starts to show vibrations. He's probably moving towards me. The next puddle starts moving. He's definitely coming in for an attack but I have to wait until he's a little closer. He's in the puddle closest too me. I start chanting freeze magic silently. Using it too soon would be a mistake. It has to be targeting my eyes right now. Right on top of me.
“Freeze!”
I see the magic make contact he's right in front of me. The ice magic has showed his silhouette. It goes for an attack, his tail aimed directly for my eye! I fire my cannon! It hits him! The displacer beast teleports away.
“He's probably bleeding. He shouldn't be able to be invisible properly now, we'll see blood falling out of the air.”
Over two hours of waiting. Coming down to a single hit to decide the fight. I open up peep holes for everyone to look through.
“Yea I can see blood." Gargarz says standing in the back of the house.
We could try to shoot at him with bolts so he has to teleport away or become intangible. He can't do those indefinitely though so he's definitely in trouble now. He's bleeding a lot, before I even realized it Pokodo was healing me.
“Master a knife just exploded right in front of you, do you think you didn't take any damage.”
Huh, yea I definitely did. I'll have to pull the shrapnel out of myself once we kill it. His tail also scratched the side of my head. It was knocked off course by the explosion. I'm still poisoned by it. So I start to cast dispel on myself. I open the peep hole a little bigger and fire a bolt. It becomes visible but intangible. Now's our chance! It will only be able to teleport once after that wears off then both will be on cool down.
It's starting to get backed into a corner. With it losing invisibility it can't draw this fight out. It runs around to the entrance. Gobber is waiting for it. Everyone moves to the entrance besides myself. I stay back casting shielding magic onto everyone waiting. I pull out my sword as a precaution, the crossbow wouldn't be strong enough to finish it if it can somehow get passed everyone.
Being completely intangible it runs straight into the room through everyone, The space is still to small for it to fit through. What the hell is it's plan!? It solidifies with some of its body parts still touching things instantly destroying the body parts. It's aiming for me! Last ditch effort to finish off the leader. I block it's tail, one of its claws is gone but it swings both anyways. I block the intact one, his bloody stump hits me across the face. Finally it bites at me. I fall down barely avoiding being killed by it's chomp. I stab it through its neck weakening it. Everyone else who was at the door has turned around. With four different attacks being used against it at once the lesser displacer beast falls over, dead.
Blue mage skill gained Blink strike- Teleport ten feet in any direction, 5 minute cool down
Master of learning 16 to 17
The boss seemed anticlimactic. It was still much harder then the tier two boss. That's because we prepared so well against it. If we didn't it would have killed us one by one with perfectly placed attacks. To back such a smart creature into a corner is impressive. Speaking of which, a group of dead adventurers is laying in a corner.
“Its a good thing displacer beasts can wear rares.”
I think to myself. We end up getting a rare defensive shield for Gobber. Tons of defensive with a physical and magic resist stat boost as well as another defensive stat boost to both from the effect. I think it would be nice to deconstruct it but the chances of me learning it are too low to risk it. The dead adventurers also have some good looking gear.
Three rares on them in total. A "wand of summoning", yes! A "crossbow of rapid fire". Probably not as fast as a repeater. I think the enchant might be tied with the time mage tree. I'll take that for now. If I make it into a repeater it should work even faster. A pair of energy regenerate while moving boots. Too big for my feet but not worth deconstructing since I have the rogue tree already. Gobber get's another piece since he's the only one they'd fit. I guess they wanted to gear up Gobber this dungeon. He doesn't use much energy (only with his bow and giant crossbow) but the stat boosts are better than the ones I made for him.
The equipment the adventurers had that wasn't rare or enchanted was also good. Helmets made from fine steel and robes made from a very tough silk. Their boots were the only things not worth taking. These adventurers were very heavily funded by the looks of it. Once we leave I'll deconstruct the wand. It has an eighty three percent chance so it's high enough to risk. We head out of the dungeon working our way back easily killing remaining enemies. We're on the first floor about to head out when a group approaches us.
"Quickly this way!" A man leading a group of soldiers enters the dungeon.
The group is twelve elite soldiers from the capital. If they're here to capture or kill us we stand no chance. The leader of the group spots us and shouts.
"You there! Did by chance you see a group of adventurers pass by? They should have been back by now, it was the princes adventuring group."
Shit! We might have to give the rare gear back.
"I'm sorry to say this but we did see a group of dead adventurers in the bosses room. They were extremely geared so it is most likely the group you were talking about."
His eyes widen in fright. He must have been tasked with protecting the prince. I can see fear forming in his eyes from what the kings punishment will be for him. He looks at me staring almost through me.
"Did you take the princes equipment? He had a legendary ring that if not on him. Will force the entire region to come after you."
"I only took the rares from the other adventurers. I wouldn't dare take the ring off of royalty, my group would have carried the corpses out to bury them. If we weren't too weighed down by the spoils we received."
He looks at me again. He must have been able to tell I wasn't lying because he runs passed us without another word... WHAT THE FUCK! How'd I miss a LEGENDARY!!! That prince must have swallowed it! I might have been able to get away with it since I have capable liar... No use crying about it now that it's already over I guess.
It's about halfway through the day when we walk out of the dungeon. We'll start heading back towards the fortress today. We walk the rest of the day set up camp and stay for the night. I take first watch. Nothing happens that night, I deconstructed the wand and got a bunch of new enchanting recipes. We're about ready to pack up for the day when I get a weird message from the familiar I gave to Lance.
