《Yet another ”reincarnated as a monster” story, however, this time, it’s a carnivorous plant》Chapter 26: Appraisal

The city was truly magnificent. I brought to mind the various cities i had been to and couldnt help but compare it to those i had found in Germany.
The houses were made of, contarary to my expectations, wood. However, what truly stood out was not their wooden origins, but that they seemed to be alive.
Each and every house had several branches sticking out from its crvices, and these branches were all crowned by colourfull leaves.
It seemed as if trees had been grown in the shape of houses, and i couldnt help but stand in awe at this strange sight. Hans seemed less impressed. In fact, she seemed completely uninterested.
I steeled my will and vowed to, at some point, get a human body.
The city itself was very crowded. Everybody seemed to be dressed in dresses ttand suits that seemed to have been made from single pieces of cloth. Yet another baffeling sight to add to the list.
Most wore brightly coloured but simple wear that reminded me of the 1700`s. Some seemed to be wealthier than others and wore more detailed and, strangely enough, subtler clothes.
The most well-dressed person i saw wore a completely black three-piece-suit, a bowler-hat and carried a sleek walking stick. At first glance, someone like me, who was used to black suits, might think his clothing was rather simple. However, not only did his jet-black suit stand out like a gem among pebbles when compared to the colourfull cloth the others wore, on a closer inspection, the cloth itself was maticolously broidered with intricate patterns and it looked softer than silk. My gaze followed him like a slave as he passed us, and i noticed Hans observed him as well.
Walking sticks were a common sight. Almost every single person we met either held a walking stick in their hand or had a small stick on their hip. I had no idea why. Hans didnt have a stick, so why did they?...

While i was observing the citizens of Jormundgand, Hans had reached her destination. I hadnt really noticed it, but whenever someone tried to catch a glimpse of me, Hans had put a hand on my flower, as if to hide it. Very strange.
The destination in question was a shop. I had noticed many of them as we walked, among others one which sold sticks, so i only recognized this as our destination since Hans had stopped right in front of it, gulping loudly. She seemed very hesitant to enter.
I couldnt read what the sign said, but around the entrance i could see a startling variety of flowers, plants, pots, small trees, large trees, etc., and so, i concluded it to be a flower-shop, or something to that nature.
After sighing and taking a deep breath, Hans pushed the door and entered with heavy steps.
”Ding ding~”
The inside of the shop was filled to the brim with plants of all kinds, and most were of a kind i had never seen before. The shop was rather small, and as far as i could see, we were the only customers. In the back i could see a counter, as well as a door leading out of the shop behind it.
The door previously mentioned opened up to reveal a young girl, no older than Hans. Her hair was short and blond, and in her blue eyes a light of curiosity flared brightly. Her eyes were hidden behind a pair of large, round glasses which gave her a very nerdy look and feel. She was dressed in overalls and on her hands and feet were large, leather gloves and booths, both of these covered in mud and some sort of green liquid.
”Hello! Can I help You?”

She truly beamed at us, and i could see and feel how Hans covered my with one of her hands.
”Yes, I would like to identify a... Plant.”
”I see! And what kind of plant are we tslking about here?
”A flower...”
”Right, bring it right over here to the counter and I’ll identify it faster than you can say ”sex laxar i en laxask”!”
I could feel how Hans trembled as she brought me over to the counter.
”Oh, right! I’m Milla, pleased to meetcha!”
”...Anette.”
”Right, if You’ll just remove your hand...”
Hans hesitated to do so. She scanned the shop, the streets and Milla as if to make sure nobody was looking. Her hand slowly parted from my flower, and, the second it did so, i saw Millas tanned skin turn as white as bone.
”NEJGUDFANVAD”
She shouted before falling out of our sight behind the counter.
Hans quickly bent herself over the counter to check on Milla.
”A-, Are you allright?!”
Milla didnt answer. For a very awkwrd moment, nobody moved. After this moment had elapsed, Milla became visable once more as she stood up behind the counter. She was still as pale as a corpse.
”W-, Where...?”
She mumbled, her eyes running about the shop as if trying to avoid confronting me. I was starting to grow paranoid.
”That is no ordinary flower... W-, Where did you?...”
”I-, I...”
Hans shook her head.
Milla was drenched in sweat.
Milla took a second to collect her thoughts before answering.
”T-, This is... A C-, Child of Venus... The bringer of death and calamity... All should know the story... Why dont you?...”
”I do. It’s precisely because i know that i had to unearth it.”
”...”
”...”
”You know what this... thing... can do...”
”Yes, I know what it can do. But it wont.”
”And why not?... Why wouldnt it charm the city to become its dictator?... Why wouldnt it reproduce with the women of the city?... Why wouldnt it bring death and despair to this prosperous Divine City or Jormundgand?...”
”...Because it is posseses more then instincts. It possesses concious.”

The Deathseeker [Under Revision]
NOTE: This story has dark elements, but it's neither grimdark nor particularly edgy. It's also currently being revised. Satan's Axe...Lord of High Honor...The Immortal Giant...The Black Maelstrom...Son of Thunderfield...The Gods' Retribution. Dalric had many names. None were as fitting as his last, Dalric the Deathseeker. Born from an unwanted mating between the greatest warriors of the time, death was his only true kin. It birthed him, molded him, and now standing in the middle of a lifeless battlefield, it drenched him. The blood of thousands of soldiers soaked his skin. Two hundred thousand men approached him that day. All of them sought his life, none of them left with theirs. But they would not die in vain, they had accomplished their mission. Hidden beneath a thousand layers of their blood, was Dalric's very own. Feeling his life fade, he gazed weakly at his work. A seemingly endless array of corpses laid battered and disfigured before him. Some bore faces of horror, most had no face at all. His most trusted companion floated in front of him, blocking the view. Waves of sorrow flowed between them. “My time has finally come. I’ve begged for death and it’s finally arrived. My work is done...and so is yours. You’re free to be who you were meant to.” With his contract with the gods fulfilled, they were truly free. The centuries of torment would end. No longer would they have to walk the path of a monster. Little did Dalric know, the devil was in the details. What To Expect: A good time. In a few more words than that, a cast of believable characters in a unique world dealing with conflicts and problems a little bit more complex than punching the big evil guy in the face. Just a little though. Minimum Word Count a Week: 5000 Release Time(s): Between Friday 12pm EST and Monday 6am EST I also write A King in the Clouds

That said, there is meaning and significance to the title, except that it will be unveiled only much later into the story. Magical elements and the like will not be a factor in most of the story until the very end. tl;dr: This is not fantasy, magic doesn't play a role in the story. --- Updates: Will try to post a chapter once every 2 days PS. This is my first novel so there might be several issues in various aspects which I might not notice so comments are highly appreciated. --- This is more to add pressure to myself rather than anything else... but anyways the story is now part of the pledge!
