《I was Reborn as the Villainess but I will become a Great Sage》Chapter 36

I wake up, a cold sweat enveloping my body. Undressing, I enter the bathroom, fill the tub and sink into the water.
Everything is starting to fall into place. The Donatella House must have gotten in touch with the Nova in the book, which is why she knew of the demon invasion. I stand up and look into the mirror above the sink. My red-blonde hair sticks to my pale skin and my golden eyes, wide and angry, stare back at me. I smash the mirror with a fist and instantly regret it, muttering, . The mirror returns to its original state and the cuts on my knuckles disappear.
Annoyed, I drain the tub and dry myself off. Since I’m a demon, how am I supposed to get the spirits to listen to me?
After dressing in my uniform, I activate my bracelet. Within seconds, my father’s voice comes through. “Nova?”
“Papa.” My voice sounds foreign. “Is Mama with you?”
“I’m right here.” My mother’s voice is full of warmth. “What’s wrong?”
“Mama,” I start. Did you know that we are demons? The words hang on the tip of my tongue, but I can’t force them out.
“Nova?” my mother says after a while.
“It’s nothing,” I respond, my chest tightening. What would she think if she knew that she is a demon? “Do you know what the experiments did to the Donatella Family?”
“All I know is that the experiments put the humans on par with the demons, even if my family was not used in the end. But why are you suddenly asking this?”
“What if we are demons? What if they turned the Donatella Family into demons and we are the offspring?”
“Silly. Did all that knowledge about the demon faction get to your head?” I don’t respond, and she seems to realize my fear. “If we were demons, we would have some physical evidence of that. Besides, even if we were, what does that change? It’s merely another secret to keep.”

It feels as if my lungs are being squeezed. “You don’t care if we are?”
“It’s not that I don’t care, but that nothing will change. Papa and Mama will still be in love, and we will still love you. We told you before, right? No matter what you are, what you become, or what you do, you are still our sole, beloved, irreplaceable child. Besides, if I am a demon, then maybe I can help your father when he fights.”
I can imagine the loving glance that my parents give each other and I let out a short laugh and resolve myself. “Then I guess Papa will have to get someone to teach you how to manipulate mana. Papa, some demons are coming to take over our world, and the Donatella Family holds a high position in that group.”
After relaying all that I know and ending the call, I feel the weight on my chest lift. My parents will prepare this world for invasion while I’m now free to go out.
Upon leaving the dormitory, I see Jennis sitting on a bench nearby. He sees me and waves, and all I can think about is the other man from my memory. Putting away my thoughts, I smile as if nothing is wrong and walk over to him. “Does going to this place you mentioned require the entire day?”
“It doesn’t require an entire day of travel, but enjoying it requires the entire evening. I was wondering if you would like to have lunch together first?”
“It would be my pleasure.”
He stands and bows at an angle. “No, the pleasure is mine, Lady Allandis.”
I giggle and begin walking. No matter what side Jennis is on, he can’t be all that bad, can he? “Where to?”

Rise of the Firstborn
[A participant in the Royal Road Writathon Challenge]As the inhibitor rises and the eternal flame is quenched, our lands shall be freed, and only then will the Princess be set to flee. It began with ice. A relentless, bone-chilling tickle of frost that stretched across the lands of Axulran, crawling over the mountain crests and freezing the grassy meadows. Frozen in time, the kingdom fought for political control all across the region of Ellixus, paying no mind to the death and torment they may cause along the way. Cateline Bennett, a princess consumed with ice, found herself lost in a foreign kingdom with nothing but her wits to survive. As she explores this unknown land, she unravels her past and discovers that the magic she had concealed for so long could unleash chaos so intense, it could destroy the world as she knew it. With her untapped magic and new friends, Cateline must vanquish the enemies that threatened the world of Denzethea as they knew it, else they, and all they knew, would crumble to ruin. NOTE: A review on this fiction has indicated that certain themes were traumatizing. While I believe this to be exagerated, I have added the appropriate tag for those who may be sensitive to those themes (fever dreams, delusions, and trials and tribulations).

A Castle in a Teacup
One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…

Mortis Operandi 1- New Hire
Thank you for reading, I have to start with that. The feedback and encouragement from RoyalRoad users helped me finish my book. I left the unedited version up as I worked on editing and making it a little more polished. However the time has come for me to put it on Amazon and hopefully let other people read the story. If you have Kindle unlimited you should be able to read the story there. If you just want to order an ebook version you can do that as well. I should have a paperback version coming up. https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07T46B4NM Again thank you for reading and helping me on this journey. It hasn't ended however, my second book which I'm hoping to do well enough that reading the first isn't completely necessary, is still being worked on here, https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/24562/mortis-operandi-2--terms-and-conditions . Any feedback, comments, even critism is welcome as I work on giving you the best version of my story. I'll leave the first two chapters up here, unless Amazon says otherwise. There should be enough differences to avoid issues though. THANK YOU! Thank you! thank you! __________________________________ Adventurers enter dungeons every day. Battling evil monsters, defying dangerous terrain, triumphing over devious traps... ... but none of them ever ask why? That arrow trap, who reloads it? The pitfall trap, who cleans out the bodies and sharpens the spikes? What if the grates get clogged, where will the blood and gore drain? When you are trying to study ancient lore or plan on conquering a kingdom, you don't want to worry about all that. You just want peace. Mortis Operandi is a different kind of company. One that celebrates diversity. One that celebrates value in individuals. With flexible pay and plenty of advancement opportunities, it is a company that knows its workers are it's most valuable asset. As they design, build, and install traps, rooms, obstacles, and repair they are a one stop shop. When a possible recall sets events into motion, the company must pivot in a new paradigm of full circle Dungeon service. The Goblin Eft No-toes has a solution that entwines ex-adventurer Elric into the business of death. *Note the above statements are forward looking statements. In no way do they promote or suggest that Mortis Operandi will project greater sales or revenue. Understand that investing in a company does involve some risks, and possibly much rewards.
