《The Tower Must Fall - Combat Gardener》22. Best Laid Plans

Branches dragged at their bodies. Brambles cut at Rowan's legs and arms, and sharp seeds cut his feet. The footsteps grew closer and closer, thunderous and unrelenting. Ahead, two branches split from the path.
"They go to the same place! Go left, I'll go right!" Rowan hissed.
Kaidu nodded. They sprinted to the branch.
"Give me back my boots!" the slender man shouted. He grabbed Rowan's shoulder.
Rowan threw himself to the side, out from under the man's grab, and swept a leg out as he ran. Like trying to 'get the ball' in soccer when the opponent's being extra annoying and deserves a 'nice trip.'
The man stumbled over his leg and slammed onto the ground. Stunned, he laid there a second.
Rowan crouched over him. "Want your boots? Go get them!"
He stood and threw one into the woods, then sprinted off down the path again, still hugging the other boot.
"You little--"
"Who knows if you'll ever find that boot again if you don't go now!"
The man hesitated, then charged into the woods, almost a blur. "When I get my boots, just you wait!"
"Good luck with that," Rowan muttered. He sped up, hurtling down the narrow path. He's Mica, right? The Thief. It looks like he's got a lot of speed skills, or maybe just got lucky and leveled up speed a ton. I won't be able to stay ahead of him if I only rely on my legs.
As he ran by a patch of brambles, he reached out with his shears. "Prune!"
Lights illuminated the path to beautify the vine. He held his hand out and collected the droppings. Bits of bark, curly strands, thorns! He grinned and tossed the handful in the boot.
"Give me my damn shoes--" A hand brushed by his shirt.

"Goooo get it!" Rowan shouted, ducking the hand as he threw the boot blindly into the undergrowth.
Mica shoved him and ran off into the forest, limping a little in one boot. "When I get that boot, I'll fucking end you!"
Rowan chuckled darkly.
Ahead, the path converged. Rowan charged ahead, glancing over his shoulder. "Kaidu?"
As if summoned, Kaidu burst through the undergrowth, dancing backward. Hoisting a heavy pair of scissors, he parried as a sword thrust at his neck.
Topaz growled, shoving her sword against his scissors. "Fucking lunatic!"
Kaidu twisted his wrist and stepped aside, directing her sword toward the ground. In the same motion, he lashed out and sliced her forearm with the razor.
"Shit!" Topaz hugged her arm to herself and fell back.
Kaidu surged ahead. He nodded at Rowan. "You?"
"FUCK, OW! SHIT!" Mica screamed in the distance.
Rowan smirked. "I've got it handled."
They sprinted on. Behind them, undergrowth rattled and shuddered. "Fucking assholes! Get back here!" Topaz screamed.
"Fuck you! My feet are bleeding, fuck!" Mica snarled.
"Where are they? Guys!" the other girl shouted.
Beryl? Was that her name? What's with the precious stones theme, anyways?
The rustling undergrowth grew closer. Rowan drew the ants out of his bag. He whirled around and let go of the top of the bag.
Mica charged through the path, Topaz on his bleeding heels. "You motherfuck--ah!"
Ants slammed into Mica's chest and splattered at Topaz's feet. Mica threw his hands up and slapped them down. Topaz trampled over the ants.
Behind them, the rustling undergrowth grew louder.
"What was that?" Topaz muttered.
Mica paled. "Oh no..."
From out of the shadows, the larger man burst through the vines, cradling Beryl in his arms. Long blonde hair flying around her face, she raised her hand. "Wall!"

A pink wall formed inches in front of Rowan and Kaidu. Rowan slammed face-first into it. Kaidu shoved off it and spun. He threw his razor.
The blade flashed through the air and sliced Beryl's cheek. She flinched and slapped a hand to her face. "Ow!"
The wall faded. Rowan charged through. Kaidu ran beside him. Together, they burst out into the moonlight.
Kaidu staggered to the edge of the cliff and stared down. Rowan looked back, over his shoulder. They're too far. I can't juke them from here. If that Mage gets up here and boxes us in, that's it.
He glanced at Kaidu. "Change of plans."
Kaidu raised his eyebrows.
Ruby, the Tank, raced out into the open. In his arms, Beryl clasped one hand to her cheek, and with the other, pointed at them.
Rowan grabbed Kaidu. Kaidu threw off his hand. Frustrated, Rowan backed to the cliff. "We have to jump!"
Beryl opened her mouth. "Wa-"
Rowan threw himself over the edge as a pink wall began to materialize behind him. A second later, Kaidu stepped backwards and plummeted over the edge.
The combat classes drew to the edge and watched them fall. Grinning, Rowan waved a farewell. Later!

A World With or Without Aliens
Nothing matters. It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact. This is neither good nor bad, it just... is. I watched my entire country burn, fried on a patriotic pan after some jerk fired a bunch of nukes at the docile fleet of alien ships hovering over us. Who gave this moron such power? I don't know. Everyone involved is most likely dead by now. As for me, I can't die. I feel pain like a normal person would (I think), but no matter how terrible the conditions, I will never die or pass out. Fortunately, a lot of alien technology survived its crash to Earth, so I get to spend some time playing with it until Mr. Author gets bored and decides to screw up my life. Beware, this has a "harem" tag. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm the main character and am therefore subject to this novel's timeline. While this bars me from the sweet ignorance of Chapter 1's me, it does have other perks... for example, I can tell you that heroine number one is personally responsible for kil-!? H-hey, back off! I'm your character, so if you didn't want me to be like this, then you should've written me differently! Randomguy here! In all seriousness, this novel is meant to explore the concept of nihilism as a post-apocalyptic/supernatural-scifi/satire told from a nihilistic introvert's first-person perspective. As you heard from my unsettled main character, each heroine is going to be a different type of horrifying socio/psychopath with dark motives and dangerous abilities (most of which are psychological). Why would I do something like this? Because I am, in reality, a nihilist who is often frustrated by weird things, like unrealistically dramatic stories, the industrialization of art (specifically music), and people who think swimming in brown creekwater for five hours is a "fun" activity. Don't get me wrong, neither me nor my character are depressed, we're just malcontents who make a lot of nerd references. I feel like the true essence of an "everything is worthless" perspective is lost on most pop-culture figures. The closest character I can think of at the moment is Rick from Rick and Morty, who is a drunk, angry nihilist that experienced tremendous loss. I, personally, find this belligerent state of mind to be very relatable, and have incorperated it into every chapter's introduction. Here, the main character talks directly to the reader (and me), shamelessly complaining about some semi-relevant facet of society, which probably doesn't make much sense... it's not really supposed to, though. These "angry nihilist" moments are just a peak into the main character's everyday existence, and also act as miniature rage-journals for me. It will sometimes take a subjectively 'positive' turn, but not very often. This is because reality isn't good or bad, "it just... is". I will eventually bring it full-circle to optimistic nihilism, since that seems to be a more practical way to live (and by "practical", I mean "doesn't create mental health issues"). It is, of course, a satire. I did this because most unnecessarily emotional moments or people usually make me feel kind of awkward, so I decided to mock them. That is, I plan to mock the characteristics about them I don't like in characters based solely off said characteristics. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my story!

Wizards of the Otherworldly Court: End of the Five, Twenty-three, and Twenty-nine Years Story
Alternate titles: - Five, Twenty-Three, Twenty-Nine Years - 5, 23, 29 "Dad? I think I got a really bad fever, why do I still feel fine?" "It feels cold..." Five years ago, Owen became a Court Wizard in search of his father who was lost to the unknown three years prior. But that wasn't the beginning of the story. Maybe it began twenty-three years ago when Ronald Bell and Joshua Ruze saved the Illyer family. Or perhaps, it all started twenty-nine years ago, when Ronald, the son of the wealthiest merchant, became a Court Wizard. Well, it doesn't matter anymore, for the story five, twenty-three, and twenty-nine years ago shall now meet its end. 2nd book written in the Wizards of the Otherworldly series. Read Wizards of the Otherworldly Court: Alicia first. This story is split into two 'Collections,' Ronald's Collection and Owen's Collection, each centering around those Court Wizards. Crossposted with WordPress site, Wattpad, Sufficient Velocity, and Rainobu. Wizards of the Otherworldly Court is a fantasy story about the Otherworldly Court, an inter-dimensional (or world-hopping, you get the idea) organization made up of people of all ages, gender, and race from many parallel or different worlds. They are granted elemental-like magic powers and called themselves 'Court Wizards'. They are tasked to watch over the many worlds they come across and step into these worlds on 'missions' to preserve the balance, life, order, anything to make said worlds better places in the shadows but may reveal themselves if necessary. However, these missions may partially or even fully oppose their nature, personal interests, and ideals. Yet, most of the Court Wizards are aware and willing to complete even the worst missions that would shatter their true selves that they will never cast aside regardless, either growing or regressing because of it. Basically, it's isekai to multiple worlds but each book after Wizards of the Otherworldly Court: Alicia focuses primarily on one world while also discussing its lore in detail. Book Alicia is the introduction containing the essential worldbuilding of the Otherworldly Court universe you need to know while shoving in as many characters and worlds as I can. Also, each book will have a different main character, sometimes more than one in a single book, like Jojo.
