《Bathilda the Bat》A New Experiment
Advertisement
Almost a full week has passed since Bathilda created her cabin in the woods. Unfortunately, her clones haven't found any more populated areas during that time. That means the city Bathilda has already been outcast from is the only one around. There could still be other people there, hidden away from the dangers of this world, but with it seeming as big as Earth and with Bathilda only being capable of three clones plus Hiro, she's forced to play the long game.
The guards have kept a constant watch on her during this time. They watched in silence as the small woman annihilated dinosaur-sized monsters. Not once did they speak as she chopped up corpses and cooked them over her fire. They didn't even utter a word when a second lady appeared and began helping the monster slayer.
Not that they can complain about the two women reducing the number of monstrous wildlife that surrounds the city. If anything, what Bathilda and Hiro are doing should be classed as a public service.
Not only are they keeping them safe, but any meat that doesn't get finished is left near the main gate for the residents inside. No one spoke to Bathilda on any of those occasions and they even closed the gate after seeing her. They would collect her offerings after she'd left, all except one. Turns out people do eat monster meat here, as long as it's not poisonous. With them being the only city for who knows how far, free meat is free meat.
Once her MP had fully replenished, Bathilda used Higher Creation Magic to furnish her home. With the instant upgrade thanks to the size and cost of her cabin, the amount of mana used in each creation is significantly reduced.
To test her new upgrade, Bathilda created a nail as she had done previously. The original cost of 20 mana had been reduced dramatically down to 2, clearly showing the difference between the Lesser and Higher ranks of the skill.

With her new found knowledge, Bathilda went a little wild. Her cabin is now more akin to a luxurious getaway and features all the amenities one would need to get plenty of R&R. Sauna. Gym. Pool. Cinema. Library. Massage room. Bathilda had to cancel one of her clones to try out the last one. She sent her back out to explore after she woke up a few hours later.
After living luxurious for a few days and enjoying the magical comforts of life, Bathilda is feeling refreshed and revitalised. She leaves her home and flies north. About a mile out, she decides she's far enough away from the city and leaves the sky. As soon as her feet touch down, she begins gathering mana into the palm of her hand.
She's come here for two reasons. One, is test Obliterate. The unlevelable skill in her list that evolved from chomp. Worried that it might cause unnecessary panic inside the walls, the distance she's put between them keeps prying eyes from watching. The second reason is that Bathilda is hoping to create some type of defence for the Lonely city. She's wants to keep monsters from attacking all fronts
'A thousand mana is enough to start,' Bathilda thinks as she activates the skill. Instantly, she is blinded by her own hand and the roar that follows the all encompassing light is terrifying. Almost as though she is standing next to an erupting thundercloud, Bathilda barely sees the ground crumble and breakaway before disintegrating completely.
Once her senses return, the devastation left behind from the overpowered skill is on a whole new level of crazy. In front of her is a ridiculously-sized chasm that Bathilda can only compare to the Grand Canyon.
From top to bottom, the gorge is at least a two mile drop. The distance between peaks is about the same. "Holy Fuck!"

Bathilda! Are you ok? Hiro asks from back at the cabin.
'Holy Shit! That's even stronger than Reality Slash. Yeah, I'm fine. Wait. Why are you asking?'
There was a large light and an even louder rumble. More to the point, if you're so fine then what the hell did you do?
'Shit! That means I wasn't far enough away,' Bathilda sighs, 'Obliterate. It's a skill that doesn't have a level. I can see why now though. It evolved from Chomp.' She explains flying up into the air.
I have Chomp. I don't have Obliterate though. Is it because that skill doesn't have a level? Heading west, Bathilda listens to his question, but has no answer to give him.
'I don't know, buddy. Not my world either, remember?' She can't say more than that as she doesn't know either. Bathilda reaches the edge of the newly-formed crater and casts Obliterate once again. She uses another thousand points of mana and a second set of monstrous sounds and eye-destroying light follows.
On that day the people living inside the city that Bathilda had been shunned from were terrified to leave their homes. Not that they needed to. The large quantity of meat they had received from Bathilda was already enough to see them through a few weeks.
Not even the guards would leave the safety of the walls. Terrified that the woman outside was engaged in some type of city-destroying battle with the world outside. One that would surely wipe them out even if they were to try and flee.
Eventually, when the world didn't end and the roars of death subsided, Bathilda returned to her wooden mansion. The scout on duty is crouching behind his post, a small-square window where he can see the cabin's majesty, when he notices Bathilda. Immediately, he reports it to his superior.
"W-What do w-we do, S-Sir?" Full of freckles and barely tall enough to be called a man, the ginger haired can't stand still in front of his commander. He is shaking constantly even though the floor is no longer rumbling.
"That is a terrific question, Jones. Luckily for you, because you asked, I am tasking you with a special mission." An older man in full plate armour answers with a smile. "Someone has to go out there and confront that demon. I don't mean fight with her, you probably wouldn't stand a chance. That said, she did leave when we asked her to. If we ask her to stop provoking the monsters then she just might. She doesn't seem unreasonable, but try not to provoke, offend, antagonise, or anything else that might result in us being destroyed. Understand?" The young man shivers as he listens, but before he can answer the commander continues.
"Good! As a secondary mission, try and find out what she was doing out there before. Any information you bring back will be valuable so try your best, Jones." The young man stops shaking as he realises what's just happened.
"Wait... You want Me to go out there!?"

Wulfgard: The Hunt Never Ends
In the civilized world of humans, 'monsters' have all but passed into legend. But when something goes bump in the night, when people begin to disappear, when a dark mystery begins to haunt even the most peaceful villages, there is only one organization to turn to: the Hunters. The Venatori. Having lived a life of discipline and service, former soldier Caiden Voros finds something even worse than the wars of humans: the monsters that hunt them. Horrors yet unknown even to him and his many scars await in the claws, talons, fangs, and mysterious powers of creatures so far beyond humans that he must dedicate himself entirely to the art of slaying them. Harboring a secret of his own and in a constant struggle to find answers while maintaining his sanity, however, Caiden begins to ask the age-old question... Who is truly worse, the monsters or the Men? Wulfgard: The Hunt Never Ends is an episodic collection of stories, each of which stand on its own, but they also build upon each other in a consecutive order, bridging a gap between a novel and short story collection. These stories follow monster hunter Caiden Voros and his partner Gwen Vergil as they embark on tales of mystery, horror, and adventure to track down monsters - the living dead, beast-men, shape-shifters, spirits, and many more - that would do harm to innocent lives and, by whatever means necessary, put a stop to their terrors. Their motives, however, are not always what they seem.
