《Bathilda the Bat》The Rules of Reincarnation

Closing her eyes whilst shielding her face, Bathilda felt her body as it was forcefully pulled into the secured seat belt. Tears repeatedly left her eyes but failed to fall down her face as they are sucked straight out of the car with everything else not strapped in. The vehicle groaned before it started to shake and Bathilda felt the harsh embrace of death pulling at her once more before the feelings disappeared completely.

The feelings of cold and wind that is.

What felt like hell was replaced with what the feeling of heaven. It's as though warm rays of sunshine were flowing down to the parts of her that weren't shielded.

Tears that flew away began to fall freely once more, but she was still too afraid to remove her arms. Slowly as more seconds ticked by and nothing, for lack of better words, bad happened, Bathilda slowly lowered her arms and opened her eyes.

A warm sun is actually present as she believed it to be, yet her surroundings are all wrong. The people around her are even more confusing than the actual location.

Bathilda is sitting in the cosy, pink armchair from her apartment which is resting on top of a large cloud, floating through the sky.

In front of her is a beatiful jacuzzi and sitting in the center is a well-toned man, wearing nothing but shorts. If her memory serves her correctly from the history lessons she took as teen, then the four women around him are all dead and died a long, long time ago.

From left to right, the four women in the tub are Amelia Earhart, Florence Nightingale, Madam Curie and Agatha Christie.

With her mouth agape, Bathilda doesn't know what to be more shocked over. The 'dead' gorgeous women in the jacuzzi or the fact that they're literally floating through the sky.

"Did I die?" she finally manages to ask, after overcoming her shock somewhat.

Leaning over the front of the Jacuzzi and resting her elbows on it, Florence is the first to respond "I'm sorry sweetie, you had a heart attack," she says in a soothing and understanding tone. "God here, is going to fix you right up though because you didn't deserve to die in that storm."

"A heart attack? God?" she looks towards the ripped man, still enjoying the company of three other women. "He's God?" she says, pointing a finger at the man committing adultery in the pool.

"How can that guy be God?" she shouts out in confusion.

"Yep, it's true hon. He's the almighty, the all seeing, the all powerful." Amelia chimes in, also moving over to the front of the large jacuzzi next to Florence.

"We know it's a little shocking at first. Especially when almost everyone imagines him to be an old man in a robe for some reason?" Madam Curie chimes in with her part.

"That's probably cause of all the paintings and what not."

"And those religious texts."

"We are getting off track ladies. Bathilda, you should not have been working that shift should you?" It's now Agatha's turn to move in and question the new arrival.

"No. It was actually meant to be my day off, but I ended covering two different shifts as the hospital is short staffed as it is." Bathilda replies sourly, slightly wishing she had never agreed.

"Yeah, we know. She just wanted to make ya aware that ya were doing something good. God here really does know everything," Amelia beams a smile and throws a thumb back at the ridiculously-hunky deity behind them.

"Like I was sayin," Florence jumps back in, "God here is going to give you a second chance at life, if you want it that is. You can also choose to stay here in the afterlife with us if you want. It's bigger than just this cloud and has everything you could ever want. So, what do you say?"

Being posed a question of significant importance, Bathilda hesitates for a moment before answering with fierce determination.

"I'll choose a second life. I can't do any good in the afterlife and all I honestly ever wanted to do was help people. I also died quite young so I feel as though I'm missing out in some way as well." After giving her answer all four women smile at each other.

"We knew you would choose that too. Honestly, he told us how this whole conversation would play out."

"That's a little... disconcerting. I don't feel like I have much say in the matter now," she begins to complain but is cut off by Florence, who then explains the rules of reincarnation to her.

"The world that you're going to do is a lot different from the one you have just left behind. Their medicine and the techniques they practice there would better be described as from my time, rather than yours. In this regard, you should be the most-knowledgeable nurse around and you should have no problems in your goal of helping others." Smiling at Bathilda, Florence continues on with a lengthy speech.

"Humans are not the dominant race on the planet you're going to. Just like the fantasy trope you're so familiar with, elf, dwarves and other various human-like species will be present on the planet. I would say, please don't discriminate, but we know you won't. Now, for the not so great part. Unfortunately, during the reincarnation process, you will get no say over what you are reborn as. Normally you would lose your memories too, but seeing as you do have noble and honorable intentions, God here has decided to let you keep them this time."

With a large amount of information to process, Bathilda is still set on trying her best to help others. Even if she ends up as a dwarf, or an elf, it won't make a difference as her mission will still remain the same.

"Knowing this extra information, do you still wish to go through with the reincarnation process? You can stay here with us, remember?" Offering one final - get out of life free - chance, Florence floats back over to God's side with the rest of his entourage to wait for the response they know she'll give.

They don't have to wait long though and she makes up her mind immediately. "Let's do this. You already knew what I'd choose anyway, right?" God smiles at her question. His long, golden locks give way to a gorgeous face and irresistible golden eyes that stare at her soul.

The only man present raised his hand from the pool and clicked his fingers together. With the simple act, a golden light enveloped Bathilda whole and a cotton-soft feeling began breaking down her body, atom by atom, to transports her soul to its new plane without any pain whatsoever. "Good luck, child," she hears from behind. The universe and space becoming the backdrop for an amazing journey through the stars, onward towards her new home.
