《Adventures of a young Zuma》Volume 2- CHAPTER 8

We arrived at the gates of the Port Town of the Castor Clan. I have heard about it from Elder. Elder told me the Castor Clan were the only beast race who had the knowledge of building dams & had the ability to control sea ports. Thus there were only two sea ports of the Zoit Continent, both managed by the Castor Clan. They named this town Port Solitude. This is first time I’m visiting this city. Well, it was much bigger than my hometown. The streets, the markets everywhere I saw, they were busy with people from different clans; looking, buying, socializing...it felt like I was being choked...so many people...
Aby (noticing my panic state): “Get a hold of yourself, BOY!!! This place is a mere port town...there many more places bigger than this with more people residing in them...get used to it if you want to become an adventurer or else go to your little safe spot.”
Me (collecting myself): “You don’t have to be so mean...you know!!”
Aby (smiling devilishly): “Are you hurt???My my...what should I do now!??” putting her hands on her cheeks (*sarcasm*)
Me: “Let me think....Oh...I know, show me around.” Trying to keep up with her.
Aby: “You are 100 yrs too young to ask of me something....BOY!!”
Me (with an innocent smile): “Ohh...You are that old???”
Aby: “What did you say???Boy!!!” I could see some of her veins pooping out in anger I suppose.
Me (with a look of victory): “You know...I saved your life...you owe me...”
Aby( with a smirk on her face): “You know...the last time a man who tried to make me do something with the pretext of owing him something went missing after a short while.”
Me (with a smile on my face): “Yeah...he must have realized how old you were so he ran away.”

Aby (veins popping here & there): “What did you say....Boy!!! I challenge you to say that again...” her arms went to unsheathe one of her many daggers situated on her belt.
Javel (with an annoyed look): “Enough!!! Stop bickering like an old couple...we have reached our destination.”
Everyone smiled, Marion giggled...well not except Wei as she had her stone face on. I looked at Aby & I think she was thinking of many scenarios of how to kill me.
Aby (with a small grin): “Not kill you...but skin you alive.” She gave me a devilish smile & went ahead to Javel.
Well...that scared me a little. How can she be so mean???Skin me??? & how did see know about what was I thinking??
Marion: “Don’t let her get to you Le’On...she doesn’t want to admit it to you but I know...she is thankful to you for saving her life...”
Me: “No no no...Actually it was me who owed her....she saved my life a long time ago...so...I just wanted to check if she still remembers about it...” I don’t think she remembers...Yes...
Aby: “Oh...Boy...I saved you first...so we are even.”
Damn that woman....
Marion (giggling): “Don’t worry Le’On I have some shopping to do...I’ll show you around.”
Me (smiling...she gives such a nice & warm aura): “Thanks Marion.”
As I looked up I saw we were standing in front of a large building. It was three storied building...& a sign board hanging over it...Council of Zoit, Port Solitude Branch Office.
We went inside...it was pretty spacious inside with a lot of statues & art of weird kind...I don’t know anything about art. It was filled with people...some working over the counter while some standing in line in front of those counters. There were in total of 12 counters. Javel approached a man standing guard in front of a room. After a while, he nodded & went inside. We waited for some time...I was busy looking at the people...WOW...so many people...what are they doing here??

Ron: “They are mostly adventurers or explorers. The counters 1-6 were counters were for documentation of your explorations or collecting quest rewards for doing some quest issued by the Council for the adventurers. And counters 7-11 were for people seeking quests so that they can register a quest to their names. Counter 12 were for new people wanting to join the Council’s own registered adventurer group. You have to pass some test to get yourself register at first.”
Me: “Are these arrangement same in all the Council Office?”
Ron (nodding): “Yes & also as you know we are also from Councils registered adventurers group.”
Javel signaled us to follow him into the room in front of which he was standing.
We went in & seated ourselves as Javel & Marion sat in front of a man sitting behind a desk.
The man looked at us with a smile on his face. He placed a white crystal towards Javel. He promptly touched the crystal & it showed something to the man behind the desk. After reading everything he nodded to Javel.
????: “So, Mr Javel...what have you found??”
Javel: “Chief...we have found a tablet there but could not decipher it. We want the Council’s Decipher Unit to check it.” He pulled the tablet from the bag & gave it to the man.
He inspected it for sometime & then he ringed a bell.
A man came inside & the man behind the desk, wrapped the tablet with a paper, wrote something on it & then handed it to him, instructing him to take it to the Decipher Unit. He nodded & left.
Javel: “Now onto other matters. We would like to register another member to our group quest. He has been vetted by us & he is not a registered adventurer.”
Chief: “Ok...that can be done...who is this person?”
Javel pointed towards me. He looked at me & raised an eyebrow...trying to figure something out. He then waved at me to come towards him. I did that & sat beside Marion. He placed a red crystal in front of him. I knew what had to be done. I touched it & it started to glow & turn into grey in colour. He then took the crystal closer to him & touched the crystal. It showed something to him. He raised his eyebrows after reading it...
Chief: “Zuma???He he he...when did a Zuma get courage to become an adventure...Are sure you want him to join??” He asked Javel while smiling.
Javel: “Yes...”
Chief: “Well, I suppose they would be good at being a porter. Well he has now been registered & he should get the details any moment now.”

Crimson Gloom
Crimson Gloom. The time when the moon turns crimson, illuminating the landscape with its crimson glow. The time when the ‘doors’ to the Crimson Abyss open. One shall gaze into the abyss and gain its secrets and powers. Concurrently, the abyss also gazes into oneself, gaining one’s sanity and humanity. Dimensional rifts appeared spontaneously on Earth, bringing otherworldly demons along with the Crimson Gloom. Bloody battles were fought, noble sacrifices were made. Humans eventually sealed the rifts and successfully defended their homeworld. Alas, the seals were not perfect. The Crimson Abyss continued to exist, slowly influencing Earth and its inhabitants. Half a century of relatively uneventful years passed… humanity slowly descended into corruption, and the majority of them knew nothing of the effects of the Crimson Abyss. Is there only the dreadful gloom left to the world? Can one find brightness in the increasingly gloomy world? The youth who had gazed into the Crimson Abyss had no answer, nor did he care. He only wanted the Crimson Gloom to end, to forever seal the Crimson Abyss. A mistake and a twist of fate led the youth into a seemingly totally different direction. Will he forget his lifelong goal? Will he instead step back onto his initial path that he fervently pursued? Disclaimer: I do not own the image on the cover. Image edited on canva.com. This piece of work, after all, is only a first draft and by no means an end product by an amateur (beginner) writer. Mistakes are bound to happen. With that said, I will strive to improve as I write. Feel free to point out errors and inconsistencies as you read. I thank you for your time. Finally, I pledge to not rewrite this novel until the first draft is completed.
