《Dark historian》Chapter 37: I’m not willing

Tyler and Martin were waiting for George to start talking, but George was just sitting there looking at the ground. George had asked Martin to get Tyler because he couldn’t leave the room anymore, Martin feeling bad had done so without complaining.
Tyler didn’t know what had happened but he could see something was wrong from how uncomfortable Martin was, and the injuries on George's face.
George was just sitting there for ten minutes, Tyler and Martin looked at each other and were both confused. George was clearly nervous and took a deep breath.
“Has any of you two ever thought about having kids one day?” George's voice was full of emotion and it was pretty hard for him to say what was on his mind.
Tyler and Martin got surprised by the random question and looked at George in confusion before they both shook their head that they wanted children one day.
“I have never told anyone about this, maybe because I never had anyone to share it with.” George shook his head and chuckled. “I always dreamt of having a wife and children one day, I would love them and do everything for them my parents never did for me. I would sit and think for hours about the things we would do and what kind of people they would be and what kind of father I would be. I don’t know why I spent so much time thinking about it when I was younger, maybe because I felt lonely, but the point of the story is that after everything that has happened, I don’t want children anymore. I’m not willing to bring a child into the world where you can be punished for just protecting yourself or because he talked without permission. I’m not willing to bring a child into the world where you could end up with a face like this for just wanting to visit a friend.” George had a lump in his throat but did his best to continue his story.
“Not only do we not stop these people, we fight each other to serve them and call it a privilege. Tyler, do you remember the day I told you that I would do anything to reach my dream if I ever got one? Well, I think I finally know what I want to do, I want to help create a world where everyone is treated as equals and people can decide themselves what path they want to follow in life, without being belittled or punished.” George had a little smile on his face when he said that and felt good that he had finally put it out there, he didn’t know why but this was the only thing he could think about after he had woken up.
“And how do you plan on doing that, will you fight them and take their place?” Martin looked at George with a mocking smile on his face, he was not a bad person, but he was also a realist and he knew that there was no way for people like them to challenge the big clans even if they tried for a thousand years, the elder had told him stories about the big cities and how powerful the clans really are.

“I have no interested in fighting the clans or power but there is something I can do that nobody else can. I remember how Solomon talked about how we need to study our own history and find out who we are and where we come from. What if I told you I can answer those questions without there being a single of a doubt if it’s true or not? Maybe if the people understand how this all began and why Nash was created they would finally take action and change the world for the better. Everyone thinks that the outside world is governed my the nobles and that they have no choice but to follow, what if Nash isn't controlled by the nobles and we have a chance to be free?” George moved his hand and a memory stone appeared, two flashed of light hit Tyler and Martin between the eyes with the memory of the first time he activated the archaeologist legacy and visited Keenen.
He had played with the memory stones when he was searching the castle and had found out that one of the stones was special. It gave the user the option to show someone a memory that they could not share. If someone tried to tell it to others or someone tried to forcefully take it by using soul power the memory would disappear and the memory would disappear from the person's mind. Of course, they would not forget to talk about it afterward but that didn’t matter, the memory that showed the skill in work would be gone and it would be impossible for someone to prove he had a skill like that without any prove. George didn’t feel proud that he wouldn't have shown them the memory if he didn't have this memory stone available but he also knew that power could blind people and that not only his but their life would also be in danger if someone found out about this. There was also a chance of someone trying to get it forcefully and this was a good way to make sure that wouldn’t happen.
What George didn’t know was that the stone was made by the seventh prince and that there was only a handful of them made. This was made for military use, the king could give his orders without being afraid that the information would fall into enemy hands. These memory stones were so special that the king had ordered that they would be returned after every mission.
Tyler and Martin didn't know what to say, this was just ridiculous. A legacy like this was just too insane for words.
“Did it really say 55.495 years old, and what is this big move he is talking about?” Tyler was shaking from excitement, he had been listening to George this whole time but he also didn’t think that George was being realistic, but this legacy could change everything.
“I have not been able to find the answer to both of those questions, that’s why I need to go out looking for answers. That the world is at least fifty-four thousand years older than we think shows what there is so much we don’t know, that’s why I want to travel the world and find answers to those questions but I can’t do it alone. After everything that has happened I understand that the world won’t let me do what I want and I’ll need strong and motivated people around me to be able to travel far distances and find answers. I’m not a warrior and even though I know that if I do my best I can become one I don’t want to sacrifice everything for it, that’s why I want to ask you two to help me. Eventually, people will find out about my legacy and they will try to hunt me down to protect their secrets and stop me from revealing information that could destroy everything they have worked for.” George had a smile on his face for the first time and was looking at them with a challenging look. He decided not to tell them about the whole incident with the King and how he was the one who ordered the big move, he needed to see if he could trust them first and decided to tell them later.

“I don’t know if it can be done or if I can be of any help but I will try, all the big clans have rejected me and I wanted to travel together with you anyways.” Tyler had an excited look on his face, Tyler’s dream was not just to become a great fighter but also to leave his mark on the world and be remembered.
“So what are we going to do next?” Martin wasn’t the type to say something emotional and this was his way of agreeing to join George. He never thought that a wimp like George would want to do something as interesting as this and wanted to be part of the ride, he didn't have anything to lose anyway.
George took a deep breath when both Martin and Tyler agreed. This was the first time he had talked from the heart and he was not sure how the two would react. Deep inside George always felt that people were not interested in what he had to say and that’s why he always tried to just be quiet, but this time he had to speak, there is just a point in a person’s life they have to act and try to do what they believe in.
“The first thing we need to do is to enter the tournament in two session months, I’m not allowed to participate and the only way for me to get out would be if one of you two wins the tournament. To tell the truth, I wouldn’t have the confidence I could win even if I could enter, the question is do you guys think you can do something that has never been done before and defeat the nobles?” George had a bright smile on his face and was clearly trying to motivate them to work hard.
Martin had a smile on his face and was excited by the challenge, he had the chance to train with his new legacy and showing all those judging people what he could do. He also knew that it wasn’t going to be easy and that the chance of them winning was pretty small, it wasn’t just the Hoopers they had to worry about, just thinking about all the strong fighters was enough to put a big smile on his face.
Tyler, on the other hand, had a complicated look on his face and was clearly disappointed, more than anyone else Tyler understood the power of George’s legacy the most, he wanted to help but he just didn’t have the recourses. “I tried to convince Master Percy to train me but he refused. There is no way I can compete against those monsters with just the basic archery skills.”
When Tyler said that George remembered the archery skill he found on Wilton and got a little excited. The scroll he had found on Wilton's corpse was pretty special, it contained all the skills a new archer needed to start his training like a footwork skill and even had a high-grade refining technique that was made especially for archers. A part of him wanted Tyler to get on of the legacies but he was still pretty lucky he had found this scroll on Wilton.
“Take this scroll, it contains basic archery skills, it will help you prepare for the tournament. Also, move into our room from tomorrow and quit your job, for now, you two need to concentrate on preparing for the tournament, I already have enough to feed us for the next two session months and I'll pay the rent with the money I make at the mines. I will try to find a way to make some extra money so you two can take some classes later.” George knew that if he was going to ask them to win the tournament which was almost impossible he needed to do his part and support them so they could concentrate on their training.
A part of him felt bothered that he had to do all this work, but he was also excited, this was the first time in his life he had set a goal and he was actively trying to work towards it. But making money wasn’t going to be enough, he had to start training to make sure he was strong enough to clear the dungeon if Martin or Tyler really did win the tournament. The only question he had was how he was going to do that without being able to follow any classes?
