《Grand Magus》Chapter 46 Exploring Howling Abyss

With each step Fraser took, the soft and wet earth of the howling abyss caused his feet to sink a little bit into the ground.

A white cloud appeared when Fraser breathed out.

While Fraser slowly vanished into the thick mist of the howling abyss, a figure followed him with every step.

As Fraser walked for a couple of minutes, he suddenly realized something essential.

‘How can I find the preys? I only know that the amount of monster or animals near the outpost increased since a tide will happen soon. But I don’t know when the tide will happen. Besides, I don’t even know how dangerous the tide is. Though it must be really dangerous as even other outposts venturing into the howling abyss had to join us at the edge.’

Looking back into his reason of coming into the howling abyss Fraser pondered for a short while before commanding it to grow into its usual size.

Naturally, Fraser took the dark robe in order to use it again when he achieved his goal and returned to the outpost.

A colossal insect spider stood in front of Fraser.

The servant of the type soldier easily towered over Fraser.

‘Look out for prey.’

That was the only thought of Fraser when something incredible happened.

The soldier moved his upper body or the upper part where the centipede mouth appeared, onto his main body.

‘Yes, the top legs indeed are arms.’

That was the thought when Fraser stared at the four-legged insect with two arms on its side.

‘It looks like an insect centaur with creepy, thorny and rather long insect arms.’

While Fraser looked at how his servant started to stand upright, the servant carefully looked at his surrounding before sending a message towards Fraser.

‘I guess I will name this servant one, as this is my first servant. Hm? So in this direction, there are a couple of monsters.’

With a quick thought, Fraser and one started to run towards the direction where one discovered a couple of monsters.

Tree branches faltered because of the reckless charge of Fraser and the colossal insect soldier one.

Fraser's strength, speed, and body improved after the fusion with the insect. As only positive traits appeared like the armor on Fraser's skin, the innate spell model and the increased physical strength, Fraser deemed the fusion as a blessing.

Even if there were a few other changes, for example, the change in his eye colors or the short time of nutrient loss after the fusion, Fraser didn’t deem them as negative and only as necessary.

Sprinting towards the target didn’t take a long time and quickly Fraser could see a horde of armored deer drinking from a bigger pond of water.

Without wasting any time Fraser thought of killing the horde of armored deer in a quick manner and without any unnecessary violence.

So one charged towards the horde of armored deer with a high pitched scream.

As Fraser had a couple of information on the organisms living in the howling abyss, he naturally transferred his information towards one who seemingly read his mind.

‘Luckily I encountered a horde of armored deer, they are rich in meat as they have a huge body mostly consisting of fat, have no special ability that is dangerous or annoying and are considered as one of the most easiest food source if the hunter can overwhelm the physical resistance and physical strength of the horde.’

Even though the armored deer with a height of over 2,4 meters or 8 foot can be considered a bigger animal than most horses, the most dangerous thing is the fact that it is shaped in a round manner with a thick armor-like skin.

Which caused it to be rather dangerous in a horde.

But as one, the insect servant of Fraser, towered with 6 meters after standing upright and having a bigger body to boot it was a massacre.

With ease one decimated the horde of armored deer, causing some of the smarter armored deer to run away.

Though it was futile as one chased all armored deer down and strangled them to death.

It only took around a dozen minutes for one to slaughter all armored deer.

‘What? Is this some blessing of being able to encounter such a horde?’

As Fraser stared at the pile of corpses which one started to pile up, he could only see adult members of the armored deer which naturally mean more meat in general.

‘But… even if this is some kind of blessing, I imagined my first exploration being more exciting.’

While Fraser watched how the pile of corpses started to get bigger and bigger, one continued to gather the corpses and built a simple sled out of tree logs using vines.

That idea naturally came from Fraser mind as well.

‘Seeing this big pile of corpses, I have to say that at least one hundred armored deer were in the horde, if not more. This would suffice for 2 more servants of the type soldier.’

So having finished the exploration within less than half an hour, Fraser walked back with one following him, pulling the self-made sled.

The time needed to return to the outpost was more than the time needed to find the horde of the armored deer as Fraser and one didn’t sprint.

So overall Fraser has explored the howling abyss for two hours.

Arriving back at the gate of the outpost Fraser could see that one apprentice with a bandaged arm and another apprentice openly snickering at him.

However, even with two guards, the gate still looked deserted.

One, the insect servant, naturally already transformed into his insect man disguise and had the dark robe conceal his appearance.

However, that didn’t stop him from being able to pull the sled filled with a big pile of corpses.

As soon as Fraser neared the gate with one pulling the sled with all the corpses piled on top, the apprentice who didn’t have a bandaged arm spoke:

“What do you want with all these armored deer? Make leather armor or what? Peter, stop him.”

With a knowing smile, Fraser glanced towards the one apprentice with the bandaged arm, indeed it was the one who looked like a silhouette.

One could see how Peter visible started to fume and balled his healthy hand into a fist before glaring at the other apprentice for a while.

In the end, Peter still walked towards Fraser with an uneasy smile.

“Are you the one from the inner circle of Magus Sept?” asked Peter in a polite tone.

“Yes, you attacked me two hours ago. Didn’t you?” replied Fraser before walking into the outpost.

In a hurried manner, Peter stepped out of Fraser's way and walked back towards the other apprentice.

One dragged the sled made out of wooden logs onto the stone ground of the outpost, following Fraser in the same speed as he walked.

Transporting the sled with the big pile of corpses on top if it was no problem as the ceiling of the outpost was ridiculously high. Besides the broadness of each floor or door caused no problems even when Fraser walked past the group of apprentices who stared at him in curiosity.
