《Grand Magus》Chapter 11 Mentor Sept

As soon as Fraser woke up he felt better, as if recovering from a serious illness or injury.
A small black ball floated in front of Frasers Chamber and spoke as Fraser opened the Door.
"Are you Fraser Rosethorn? I am the Magus Sept, your mentor. I don't want my studentys to call me Master so I want you to call me mentor sept. Follow this small spirit in order to reach my rooms."
Slowly but sure the black ball floated along the floors, Fraser trailing behind.
He arrived at a grand hall with rows upon rows of flasks, cauldron and jars with strange things in them.
Fraser could see a middle aged man with a beard sitting in front of a group of children. Most of them the age of Fraser.
The black ball floated towards the middle aged man before hiding in his hand.
"Ah, so you must be Fraser. I am your mentor Sept. Since you are all new students at the Howling Abyss Academy you probably already ingested the small flask with the black substance in order to learn the Basic Meditation Technique." spoke Mentor Sept as he stroked his beard while glancing towards the group of children.
Without any surprise many children had reactions as soon as Mentor Sept mentioned the small flask.
However Mentor Sept ignored their reaction and instead continued with his instructions.
"Since the Howling Abyss Academy has a lot of students I don't really need the helping hand of so many apprentices and thus only the new batch of students which arrive every three months has to clean and organize my stuff. Additionally I don't have that much new work as watering and feeding the plants and animals is done with ease. Only cleaning will take a while but as you are a big group it won't take that long."

As Mentor Sept explained the work of the new apprentices which only included watering the plants, feeding the animals and cleaning the lab he turned towards a drawer and put three objects onto his table.
A flask, a small worm and a plant.
"These three things symbolizes my three lessons. As I said I will allow each of you a lesson in my subjects which are Alchemy which will allow you to create different kinds of potions, Animals or Beast taming which will allow you to command them or to harvest their produced items without any risks and Botany which will allow you to harvest poison, fruits and leafs from plants and if you are talented you might even control plants or trees to fight for you." explained Mentor Sept as he slowly looked at every student suddenly turned from being excited to thinking about the choices.
Even Fraser was in deep thought. Without even considering the three options he knew that Mentor Sept had Alchemy and wanted to learn it. As he knew that Alchemy would in most cases produce valuable potions which would allow Fraser to make huge profit.
But since Fraser now knew that Mentor Sept had a lot of students then didn't that mean that there were a lot of Alchemists in the Howling Abyss Academy? That would lower Frasers value if there were a lot of older Alchemists running around providing services and potions to the mass.
"If you wonder why there are three choices even though I am called Alchemist Sept in my description page then I have to explain that Alchemy is a subject which is really dependent on talent or money. There is also a factor if there are better Alchemists in your surrounding and how much you are compared to them."
At the last sentence Mentor Sept smiled and looked into space as if remembering a distant memory.

"Two years ago I took my most talented apprentice, Nicholas. He was able to brew a potion within the first day. Though it wasn't the first try, it was close to the first try. And now my students, make your choice."
The last part seemed as if Mentor Sept tried to dissuade the group of children to take Alchemy.
Naturally almost all of the new students followed the persuasion and either chose Animal/Beast taming or Botany. Most chose Animal/Beast taming.
The last one to choose was Fraser.
'Animal/Beast taming sounds really strong and Botany might make really strong, but I don't have any earth/water/plant compatibility. My element is Darkness. So the only choice would be Animal/Beast taming. However it's not that safe, I would need to get out and capture a beast myself. Even a normal wolf in the Wildlands almost killed me.'
Gritting his teeth Fraser chose the small flask and thus received a small flask with black substance in it from Mentor Sept.
Smiling Mentor Sept said to Fraser: "If you have brewed your first potion then come to me, I will help you."
Not knowing whether he had make a right choice in choosing Alchemy Fraser bowed and stepped back just like the other children.
In the end Master Sept called for an older apprentice in order to show the new group of students the Academy.
There was the canteen and the library where you actually needed to pay in order to read books. There was a level system, the higher you went, the more you needed to pay.
An open training field for apprentices who wanted to train outside, an indoor training hall also for apprentices who wanted to train, a really huge garden with benches, green lawn which allowed one to sit comfortable and even small ponds connected with rivers.
All in all it looked beautiful.
The older apprentice even showed the mission hall and explained the few rules of the Academy which were pretty simple like not hurting your fellow students, striving for more strength and paying your yearly tuition fee which was around 10 magic stones.
There also were interesting things like the free lesson hall, a relaxing section and many activities which were purely for fun.
The activities interested Fraser little and he was more interested in the market space which was opened for every student.
It didn't allowed for much suspicion but the senior apprentice skipped over the market place and walked away in a quick manner.
Excited the children soon started to chatter and talk about their bright future.
"We are going to be important Magicians so naturally they have to treat us right. Did you look at the free activities? There are so many and the environment is so beautiful."
"Hey did you see what I saw? There is a free enjoyment house in the activity section, do you want to go there?"
The children or young teens continued to talk and quickly moved towards the activity section.
Fraser glanced at them before quickly disappearing.
First and foremost he walked back to his chamber which took quite a while.
Glancing at the small flask which should contain the information of Alchemy Fraser immediately opened the flask and drank the black substance.
Fraser tried to counter the pain by initiating the Basic Meditation Technique and it worked.
The sharp pain from the headache turned into a tired feeling which let Fraser drift into the Dreamworld.
