《So What If The World Is About To End? I Have Side Quests To Finish!》Chapter 10: "Challenge" Of The Inner Region

Around four hours after Miles accepted his first Subclass, both he and Yvette had finished sleeping through their first time in a Dungeon. Well rested and completely recovered from the day of Class Testing, travelling to the Dungeon, and clearing said Dungeon's outer region, Miles and Yvette pressed onward. Their goal was to clear the whole of the Dungeon before they went to sleep again.
"So, I became a White Mage," Miles casually dropped the bombshell.
"Excuse me? What?" Yvette paused. It had only been a day and though she was present to witness his growth and Healing Talent, it was still absurd to learn that a Primary Cultivator could accept a Subclass so quickly. "Assuming you're serious, how would you even..."
A familiar yet distinct Magic Crest forming before Miles' extended forefinger silenced her quickly enough.
"I'd only be capable of learning these two Controller Spells from nothing after advancing into the White Mage Class," Miles said as the Magic Crest for a Double Time Spell transmogrified into the Magic Crest for Paralysis.
"Dude… You're so overpowered," Yvette shook her head.
"Really? Like you're one to talk," Miles grinned. "Didn't you awaken directly into C Rank strength?" Miles countered as they walked deeper into the Dungeon's inner region.
"Touche," Yvette sighed, just as they came upon a group of three Shadow Blights. "Ah! Maybe these guys can cure my boredom," she hoped, seeing as Miles took a step back and nodded her way.
[Shadow Blights | Level 7-8]
'Unlikely,' Miles shook his head, though he didn't verbalize his thought. He might have been able to get away with explicitly using his All View for materials as he could claim it was his studious nature that allowed him his appraisal skill. But anyone with even half a brain would suspect him if he started accurately assessing the combat ability of beings he was only now seeing for the first time. Yvette would find out soon enough, anyways.

Approximately five seconds later, Yvette's spirits returned to their established, albeit depressed, baseline levels. At least she had Miles around to pat her on the shoulder and comfort her by saying, "Hey, to be fair, it took you a second longer to clear their group of three compared to Shadow Inklings. Maybe once we reach the Dungeon Core Chamber, the Boss might make you work a little. If you're lucky, the EX Boss might even let you break a sweat."
Yvette raised an eyebrow as she asked, "You want us to take on the EX Boss?"
"Why not?" Miles started, "It'd be one thing if we had to worry about groups and formations of Bosses, but this is just an F Rank Shadow Dungeon. Chances are, at the very worst, we'll only have to deal with one D Rank shadow monster, maybe with a litter of E Rank minions. But even then… Now that I have Controller Spells, I won't have to depend on you as much."
"Sounds good," Yvette said, before a duo of Shadow Blights began approaching.
"Welp, go knock yourself out," Yvette said. As Miles nodded, withdrew his hunting knife, and buffed himself with Double Time, she added, "Until we meet a new mob, I guess I'll stick to being your backup..."
[Skill "Debuffing Spell: Lesser Paralysis" activated]
Wisps of lightning materialized upon the form of one of the Shadow Blights, causing it to stop, but only for a second. Unfortunately, it was not inflicted with the Debuff Paralysis. However, by the time, it escaped its state of being Stun Locked, Miles had already eviscerated its companion.
Under the effects of his Common Blade Intent, Miles could still rather easily instantly kill the higher leveled, more developed Shadow Blights with his hunting knife; provided, of course, he faced one at a time. Thus, Miles killed the second Shadow Blight effortlessly.

He continued to kill the Shadow Blight and Shadow Inklings that came at him and Yvette in droves until they encountered a new monster. Of course, after Yvette had her taste of new meat, Miles would continue to fight and adapt to the increasingly diverse cast of Shadow Monsters in the Dungeon.
Shadow Inklings, the formless, nigh-harmless little blobs quickly became more of a chore to deal with than an actual challenge; especially after Miles' Paralysis Spell became strong enough to instantly kill the pests through sheer magical damage.
Shadow Blights, though stronger and slightly humanoid in form, lacked the intelligence to do little more than swipe and strike aimlessly. So, with Yvette around to give him pointers, Miles gradually increased the number of these mobs he could single handedly massacre by his lonesome.
Then as the two approached the Dungeon Core, Shadow Soldiers, Shadow Shamans, and Shadow Cats began relentlessly attacking. These three mobs were a cut above their lessers, capable of making intelligent tactical decisions, some possessing their own set of Skills.
Shadow Soldiers, humanoid warriors of darkness would periodically come charging out of nowhere, slashing and thrusting with trained precision and their wispy black swords. More often than not, a battle with one of them would leave Miles with at least one cut or scratch.
Shadow Shamans, the equivalent to human Elemental Mages, commonly ambushed the group by shooting a salvo of fireballs or chain lightning. Though, Miles due to his rather impressive and constantly growing Magical Stats, fared better against them than the other two mobs. It humored Miles to no end that his body was better equipped to be electrocuted, burned, or even frozen than it was to handle a punch, kick, or stab.
Shadow Cats, however… Well, All View identified them as such, but they were easily the size of normal leopards and like leopards, they had a sinister predatory nature and speed that Miles struggled to contend with even after buffing himself and cursing them.
With such odds pitted against Miles and his insistence on fighting, he and Yvette would spend nearly twelve hours in the Dungeon's Inner Region, if not fighting, then resting and recovering, before they reached the Core.
By then, Miles' clothes were reduced to cut up scraps, his knife dulled and tainted greyish black. He was left with little choice but to spend the last of his System Points on a fresh set of F Rank armored clothes and a single use magical whetstone.
Miles resolved to explain that he had stored the backup equipment before coming to the Dungeon in his Storage Cube, but Yvette never asked. She was probably too excited thinking about how she would fare fighting against her first Boss and EX Boss after they finished eating their meal.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!
