《Not another zombie apocalypse role playing game》Chapter fourteen: No transportation? No fun.

‘What an extraordinary amount of magic.’

“Once the pair walked into the portal the sight of the spaces between dimensions they seemed baffled. Even a monstrously strong person would instantly come apart from their seams, if they came here without the protection of the portal pathways.”

“This whole place is making my head spin.”

“Their senses are overwhelmed. The now presumably mana adept hero has become more sensitive to the abundant magical forces in this extraordinary transportation magic.”

“If we weren’t literally floating without any control I’d like to stay here for a while to train. Feels like it would be a great place to stay.”

“Only few minutes pass before our protagonist gets flung out of the, his elegant figure shoots out the portal.”

“Owh! God damnit. If this wasn’t free I’d want my money back.”

“Meanwhile the much more eloquent Tio-oh gently lands next to our hero. She stares at the surroundings wide eyed and slack jawed.”

“Wooo! Not bad! Not bad at all. A river, nice green bluish grass. Soft singing of birds.”

‘Amazing.’

“Right? Now this is a fantasy landscape! You also feel a nice amount of mana in the air. I can definitely train here.”

‘Alright. You be on your way, I have to guard the portal. As per my quest.’

“Eh? For real? But look at this place. Look. The river has yellow water, or whatever it is.

Look. Some sort of mud creature. Mudfrog? Oh! Look. A bird that looks like a bunch of leaves!”

“And this place does indeed look like a paradise but little does our hero know that this is the only habitable place on this planet. Outside a protective perimeter is nothing but roaming undead, wild and ferocious lifeforms that live either on each other or the undead.”

“That’s a bit depressing.

Hello! Is anyone here?

Hello? No? Someone?

Alright. I’m going to take a look around.”

“Despite the lack of response to his calls our hero stands proudly and starts waddling about aimlessly. We must hold our breath and marvel at the sight him stumbling around barely keeping his balance.”

“Screw off! I’m super light for some reason it’s really weird walking here.

Cool. Look, it’s just mud. It fell apart when I tried to pick it up. Wonder if I can catch that leaf bird.

Haha. No way. Look, the fish are made of clear water. This place is pretty trippy.”

“Off in the nearby distance an old man one third the size of our hero watches over him chasing leaf based birds.”

“Where? Heya! Old man! Hey!”

‘...’

“Despite being quite far in the distance we can hear the old man sigh in what I assume is disappointment.”

‘Your narrator seems a bit cheeky. My condolences junior.’

“Wooh. How did you move so fast!

You can hear that asshole?”

‘I can. How about you come to my place and we’ll chat.’

“Alright.”

“An unassuming door seemingly made of moss covered wood materialized in front of the wise and mysterious man. Young mister Ji bravely follows as the man gestures him to walk forward.”

“He got surprisingly docile.”

‘Most narrators are very shy creatures.’

“What? That sounds very strange. How can a narrator be shy? That feels counterproductive.”

‘Have a sit down and I’ll get something to drink.’

“Alright.”

“The house although not spectacular has a quaint charm to it, something you’d expect solitary monks to live in.”

‘Alright. So. You’ve come here for the class specialization. Right?’

“Yes. I’m looking for a master to go specialize into something magic related.”

‘Hoho. Well. From what I can tell, you are only up to your first class specialization.’

“That’s right. This is my first time.”

“Don’t blush. I can’t unsee this.”

‘Well I’ve got good news for you then. I can be considered a master of all sixteen initial classes.’

“Oh! What! You can learn all of them?”

‘You can. But it would be very restrictive to do so. I’m like a tool that works on everything so to speak. But I’m afraid I’m not very good at doing any work.’

“What he is saying is that he’s lazy.”

‘How astute.’

“I think I missed something.”

‘It would be best not to pick too many low level specializations. As there is a limit to how many the world will help you advance in.’

“What do you mean?”

‘You see. The world. Some would call it god. Some would call it game master. It carries many names.

The world gifts us with ways to become stronger, it will create an easier path for you to walk. And if you stray away from its path it will be hard to travel by yourself.’

“Uhmkay.

So. About this specialization. What do you have to offer me?”

‘Me offer you? I’m afraid it doesn’t work that way my dear boy.’

“Eh? What?”

‘You’ll receive a test. And according to how you do in this test. You will be allowed to pick certain areas of expertise to further yourself in. The way you have allocated your attributes will of course be a factor as well.’

“Oh. Bit forced isn´t it? What happened to freedom of choice?”

‘The world only wants the best for you.’

“That sounds a bit creepy, no?”

‘Let the world love you.’

“Alrighty then. Shall we move on? Do you have a quest for me or what are we doing here?”

‘I have no quest for you, it’s just been a long time since I had company.’

“What? Then. Wait. Are you just messing with me?”

‘I wouldn’t dream of it. You had questions, I had answers.’

“An eerie silence takes place as our hero stares at this annoying old man.”

“See. Sometimes he makes sense.

Well?”

‘Well what?’

“You going to tell me where I should go or what? I can’t just hang around here.”

‘I am not one to dictate others. You are free to do as you will.’

“What the hell is this? I’m leaving.”

‘May your travels be safe.’

“Cya old man.

Ridiculous.”

“The day is uneventful as our hero wanders about for hours. Sometimes catching strange creatures made of various natural materials.”

“I don’t get it. What am I supposed to do here? I don’t even get a quest when I hunt down a creature. Nothing.

I suppose we can head over to the edge of this place. Feels like it would take days to reach the end of this. What is this? Like a valley surrounded by mountains?”

“Beautiful nature as far as the eye can see. All the way up the mountains. Which where our protagonist is now heading. Had he read the new updated quest information he’d have done so ages ago.”

“Oh. Dude. You are really making me work for this. We’ve been here for hours and you haven’t said a thing!

Let’s see then”

“Holy shit. That’s a lot of options.”

“It would seem that the world is playing a trick on our hero or that old man was in fact a master. Or perhaps that quirky Fluo may have something to do with it.”

“Quirky. Quirky. What a strange word.

It’ll take me like a day or two to find an end to this paradise.”

“As the day ends our hero lies under a sizeable tree and entertains the idea and the romantic feeling of sleeping under the open sky.”

“I am not thinking about that. I was thinking it is warm even though the sun is down.”

“The night passes and day rises. Our hero still muddle headed tries to pry his eyes open. The morning sun is merciless.”

“Mrrrm.

I could go for a bun right now.”

“The day goes as planned. A young looking Ji Aleksy makes his way towards a peak of a mountain in hopes to find the edge of the sanctuary he currently lives in.

For those who are just tuning in, here is a quick run up.

Our hero just received his first genuine quest. A class quest at that. His aim is to survive the considerably dangerous wilderness outside the sanctuaries grounds.

For anyone with reasonable combat abilities and supplies, this should be a breeze.

Sadly. Our hero is has none of these qualities aside from abundance of buns.

And back to the action!”

“What action? I’m just walking. Feel free to try and make that exciting. I really do hate you.”

“Each step filled with hesitation and reaffirmed determination. The wind shuffles passed as the sun pierces through the occasional tree top.

A certain omen of danger fills the mind of our protagonist, Ji Aleksy. His spirit wavers as the thoughts of the undead enter his mind.

The surrounding magical wildlife watches on with caution.

We shiver at the thought of things to come.”

“Pfft. Nice try. That sucked.”

“Our hero continues to baffle us with his insane one dimensional conversations. We can either pity or condemn him for his behavior.”

“Eh? You still pretending we aren’t talking to each other?

Aye? Hello?

I wonder how far it is. Not going to lie, feels like I’ve been walking for hours.

I wonder if Tio-oh is doing alright. You think she had enough food? She said she was going to guard the portal until I got back.

Hmm.

That’s new. Bigger than usual as well.”

“A creature that walks on two feet made entirely out of various branches, some even from different species of trees.”

‘Unnth!’

Talking to me buddy? C’mere.

‘Unnth! Unnth!’

“Okay very cute. Get out of my way.

Owh. What the shit man. Get off me!”

“A strange wrestling match has started, a loosely made up tree beast has entangled itself around our hero.”

‘Unnth. Unn.’

“It’s humping me? It’s humping me! What is this!?”

“Suddenly our hero slams his hand filled with what resembles swirling air and water.”

“Get off!”

“We watch as the beast gets dislocated and scatters into many branches.”

“Unbelievable. Can’t even enjoy a peaceful stroll through the woods.”

“The rest of the journey to the top of the mountain now consists of running from the wild life that gets larger and larger. When the sun sets and our hero decides to stop he is only an hour or so away from the top.”

“Oh my world. So close. I should have rented a horse or something. This really won’t do. Will I have to walk everywhere in the future?

I want a flying beast of my own.

Or maybe just like a four legged beast, like a horse but not a horse. Something cooler.”

“Dream big little man, dream big.”

“Oh. You got something to say?”

“Don’t die dreaming.”

“Uhm.”
