《Domain》volume 3 Cloverfield chapter 59 - the first encounter

being forced to wait inside the building decided not to waste the time. being unfamiliar with each other, I told everyone to introduced themselves. After our team's introductions, each of the characters followed the same.
Rob: uh, well. I'm Rob.
Before us all was a slim man with short, neatly kept brown hair. Standing at a little under 6 ft, he looked like an ordinary man. as I already knew, he was a businessman. so in all respects, he was quite normal. But when his love was in danger, he became extremely brave. rushing straight into almost certain death for her. Overall, I had a good impression of him.
Jason: hiya. I'm Jason, his brother.
walking beside Rob, Jason also introduced himself. looking at the two side by side, you could see the similarity. the main difference was the scraggly hair of jasons. In the film, he only appeared for a brief while. being the first main character to die to the creature, there wasn't much time to explore his character. From the little I had seen, he seemed extremely laid back and unconcerned. even during the panic, he kept a relatively level head. not knowing much about his character, I would make sure to keep an eye on him.
Marlena: uh, I'm Marlena.
with shoulder length, wavy brown hair, she was quite cute. even after her makeup had been ruined by sweat, she was still quite pretty. During the film, she had shown herself to have a courageous side. when they were attacked by the parasites, she took the initiative to attack them. and in the process, saving another main character. though it eventually leads to her death. in the end. it showed her sincere character. other than Rob, she was the second most trustworthy character.
Hud: well this is awkward. it's kind of like the first day of unive.
Rob: focus Hud
Hud: agh, sorry, I'm hud.
placing his hand behind his head, Hud lived up to his character. throughout the film, he's known for making numerous unrelated and inappropriate remarks. he's the best friend of Rob having known him for years. other than his relation to Rob, he's also known to have a crush on Marlena. as for my trust in him, it wasn't very high. during the film, he only ever ran away. the only reason he was a main character was his connection to Rob. outside of that, he was a nobody.
Lily: it's nice to meet you, I'm lily.
Lastly was Lily. with cream brown skin and long black hair, she was in no way inferior to Marlena. though that wasn't to say either of them could compare to Alice. the difference was like heaven and earth. She was the girlfriend of Jason, as well as the only surviving character in the film. during the film, she often supported the characters emotionally. even after losing her boyfriend early on she still remained clearheaded. accompanying Rob most of the way through the film. though she had some bravery in her, most the time she was using the pretence of helping Rob to hold off her grief. in a way, she was a ticking bomb. as the emotional pillar of the group, she played a vital role. so I would be sure to keep her out of harm's way.
Now seeing them in real life, they didn't seem the same as the film. though i suspected our presence was the reason for that. without experiencing the same hardship and panic as the original film, they would not mature as much. so it was unlikely for to be able to use the film's story as guidance. It was unfortunate, but not overly devastating. we were still one step ahead after all.

Solomon: all right then, now that we've introduced ourselves, it's about time to head out.
Looking out through the window, you could see that most of the dust outside had cleared up.
Rob: right now? where are we going?
Surprisingly, Rob took the initiative to talk. so soon after joining us, I didn't expect any of them to be comfortable with us. having forced their cooperation, we weren't in the best situation to make friends.
Comparing them with the other characters from our past missions, they were just normal people. time would be needed for them to adapt. even then they would not be much help to us, just less of a burden.
Solomon: well, first of all, we need to get into the subway.
Jason: the subway? if we're going to escape, then Manhattan bridge is our best bet.
Naturally, the characters would follow the same line of thought as in the film. seeing the bridge as their escape from this nightmare, they would want to go there. But if they tried to cross this bridge, they would likely die. when crossing it in the film, the creature appeared. Within a short time, it had smashed it apart. This was the cause of the first death in the film, Jason's death.
Gareth: that's not a good idea.
Having researched online, Gareth was also privy to what happened at the bridge.
Jason: what, why?
Understandably, Jason was sceptical. the premise of escape still in his mind.
Solomon: soon, that bridge is going to collapse. It's best if we escape underground.
Keeping the reason vague, I told them half of the truth. Though I could try to explain the creature to them, it would be better for them to see it themselves. otherwise, they definitely wouldn't believe it.
Marlena: wait. so is this is like, some sort of terrorist attack?
Solomon: something like that. So can you lead us to the nearest subway entrance.
Redirecting the flow of the conversation, I wanted to leave here as quickly as possible. the whole time we were above ground, we were at mercy of the creature.
Lily: I know how to get there. I can lead the way.
Luckily, Lily showed us the way. guiding us across the street, we all followed her directions.
As everyone entered the alley, I sped up to scout ahead. matching my slightly accelerated speed, tony caught up to run beside me. Talking quietly, he made sure the characters couldn't hear us.
Tony: something seems wrong, I've got a bad feeling about this.
Solomon: about what?
Currently I didn't sense any danger nearby, even with my heightened instincts.
Tony: that girl seemed way to eager to guide us... I don't know, maybe it's just me.
Slowing down, tony fell back into pace with the others. considering his words, it was odd for her to be completely fine with going away from the bridge. to her, it would seem like she was running into a wolves den. eventually arriving at the street, I could see people as far as the eye could see. Several thousand people were migrating through this main road.
Gareth: what's this?
arriving behind me, the rest of the group also saw the horde of people.
Lily: this is the main road that goes towards Manhattan bridge. All of these people are heading there to escape. If there really is explosive on the bridge, we need to warn them.
staring up at me with honest eyes, Lily seemed to have purposely led us here. though she seemed to believe us, she still chose to go towards the bridge. in this situation, I was happy to let them see the destruction for themselves. the sooner they saw the monster the better. that way we could talk honestly with them. Looking down the street, I could see the bridge. Though it was easily a kilometre away, my enhanced eyes could still see the many people on the bridge. As I watched on there was a slight tremble in the ground below my feet. feeling it, everyone on the road paused momentarily. suddenly I sensed danger from the bridge's direction. stronger than I had ever felt before, my entire body screamed for me to run. luckily the people around me couldn't sense it, or else they might have a breakdown on the spot. Even facing off against last missions chieftain the pressure was many times weaker.

Solomon: it's too late.
Interrupting lily and Gareth's argument, I drew their attention to the bridge. At first, you could see a little swaying, but all of a sudden a gigantic black limb stretched up from the water. with ridge-like bumps all the way along it, you could see the appendage waver in the air. tapering off into a point, this was obviously the creature's tail. As we watched on, the tail lifted up into the air, only to fall back down onto the bridge. seeing this, the entire street had developed an eery silence.
Lily: AAAGGGHH!
Breaking the dead silence before the impact, Lily's scream echoed down the street.
Bridge: RRRRRUUUUNNNNGGGHHH, KACHUN TSSHHHH!!!
With a sickening screeching, the metal pillars bent under the stress, eventually snapping and falling into the turbulent water below. anything falling in would inevitably be crushed.
For another half second, the street fell into dead silence. Then, almost in unison, panic erupted.
Crowd: AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!
darting in all directions, the mass of people began to spread out. looking oddly like cockroaches running for cover.
Hud: wha, what was that thing?!
Jason: h, how is this happening?
Being so close to the creature, I felt extremely nervous. Seeing the characters start to break down, I decided it was time to go. Quickly turning to Lily, I grabbed her by the shoulders.
Solomon: Take us to the subway, NOW!
Recovering from her shock, she quickly nodded her head led us down the street.
Lily: follow me, It's only a couple street's down from here!
Though we weren’t being directly followed by the creature, I still felt a deep sense of crisis. A moment ago when the bridge collapsed, we were easily within the creature's range. Yet it hadn't come after us. It seemed like it hadn't changed much from the original in the film, even following the same actions. at this point, it was still ignorant to the tiny humans running around. but when the military arrived, it would start to notice our presence.
Tony: I see it!
Having run several streets away from the bridge, we were constantly looking down the side roads. nervous to be off the streets, our hearts were incessantly pounding in our chests. Tony, being the tallest of us, used his superior height to look over the heads of the crowds. Using the same method as him, I caught a glimpse of the entrance. Just as we were all about to head towards it, there was a crashing sound in front of us.
Sound: CRRRRRRRRK, CCCCHHHHHHKKK TTFFFFFFFFFFTTTTT!!!
At the next intersection, only 300 meters away, one of the building had collapsed. from behind it, a jet black arm came crashing down onto the street. Leaning its head over the other buildings, a creature stared down the street at us. When it's gaze landed on me, I felt like my soul was being ripped out of my body.
Solomon: fuck! Quickly, RUN!
Grabbing Rob and Jason, then hoisting the onto my shoulders, I sprinted towards the entrance. Following my example, everyone else ran behind me. With the distance to the entrance being only 30 meters from us, we could easily make it there before the creature. looking up into its eyes, I noticed it was still looking at us. unlike the last creature, this one seemed to have noticed us.
Gareth: SHIT, it's coming towards us!
from down the street, I saw that the creature was heading in our direction. Luckily it was still 20 buildings down from us. We should have been able to easily make it.
Sasha: AAAGGGHH
Hearing a scream from behind me, I turned to see Sasha pinned to the ground. A nearby wall had fallen on top of her lower body, holding her legs underneath it. Nicholas crouched was next to her, trying to lift it, but in the end, he wasn't strong enough.
Solomon: Tony, CATCH!
Getting his attention, I handed Rob and Jason to him. seeing me stop, concern covered Alice's face.
Alice: what are you doing?!
Solomon: there's no time, JUST GO!!!
Seeing Alice turn around and continue running, I was relieved she didn't argue. wasting no time, I ran towards Sasha and Nicholas.
Solomon: QUICK, help me lift this!
Calling out to Nicholas, I placed my hands under the collapsed wall. having seen me run over, Nicholas responded quickly.
Nicholas: right!
Grabbing the wall with me, we both lifted. With our combined strength we managed to quickly lift the wall.
Looking over Sasha, I saw that her ankle was bent at an unnatural angle. Looking at her pained expression, she was obviously in no condition to run.
Solomon: I'll carry her, So let's GO!!!
lifting Sasha up into a princess carry, we again made a sprint for the entrance. Looking at the creature, it was now only 3 building from the subway entrance. observing its body, there were little black balls falling from it.
Solomon: shit!
Having seen them before, I recognised these little black balls as parasites. Looking at the hundreds of them falling off the creature, a sinking feeling settled in my gut. seeing the quickly approaching creature, I knew we weren’t going to make it.
Looking at the parasites scurrying towards us, an image of them swarming us appeared in my mind. Though I wasn't afraid of them individually, with the huge number of them, as well as the risk of their poison, I became nervous.
Solomon: hold onto me!
Grabbing onto Nicholas's collar, I used the afterimage technique to jump forwards. skipping over 20 meters instantly, I arrived at the entrance. Appearing at the top of a set of stairs, I stared down towards my salvation. at the bottom of this 30-meter long hole was the rest of my team. Putting Nicholas down, I stole a quick glance at the creature. at this point, its head had just reached us.
Hovering above us, it's two beady eyes stared down at us. As if it was inspecting a couple of interesting insects, its eyes didn't hold a shred of emotion. The pressure of its gaze momentarily held my body in place, terrifying me. all the confidence I held in my current strength disappeared. In horror, I watched as one of the creatures smaller hands reached for me. Though it seemed slow, the colossal size of the creature deceptively hid its speed.
Solomon: fuck me.
Waking myself from my fear, I moved quickly to avoid the creature. Seeing that beside me Nicholas was petrified, I grabbed a hold of him. without much thought, I instinctively dived back first down the stairs. As I fell through the air I brought both of my teammates into my chest. A fall of this height was very likely to hurt them. using my superior stats, I could take most of the damage for them.
As I continued through the air, time seemed to slow. Watching the movements of the colossal creature, I saw it's hand continue towards the entrance. Looking at us with its soulless eyes, the grotesque black hand collided with the concrete entrance. Under the creature's power, the entrance quickly.
Entrance: BOOOOM, CRRRRRSSSHHHHH!!!
Alice: SOLOMON!
feeling my back hit the hard concrete, the surroundings went dark.

The Dungeon Hive
One thing I noticed about most dungeon stories is that most races mistakenly believe that dungeons have a hive-mind and I go, “That make sense.” Considering the various powers and how big dungeons can get, wouldn’t it make more sense for them to have a hive-mind? So this is it; my take of the world’s first dungeon and the hive that controls it. Watch as it stumbles, fall, survive, strive and…procreate? Watch as it changed the world of Ioplon…for better and for worse. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For edited version of the story, the full trilogy (Book_1: Fantasy Begins, Book_2: Dungeon Flames, Book_3: Spread of the Dungeons) are now available on Amazon.
