《Domain》volume 2 upgrade specialist interval chapter 53 - a surprising payday

Having finished with everything we needed to, everyone was taking a rest day before the mission. While this was happening, there were a few things I had to sort out. Letting Gareth know I was leaving, I asked him to keep it quite from Alice. I didn't want her to come looking for me when I was out.

And so, I made my way from our mansion in the guild district, to the centre of the city. Once there I continued onwards to the opposite side of the city. The market. After buying the mansion, as well as my enhancements and other things, I had a little under 800 points left. Wanting to increase my chances at getting an F rank token to the highest it could be, I intended to spend all of these points.

Arriving at the big gates dividing the different markets, I first chose to enter the weapons gate. The reason being to pawn off some of the leftover weapons I had. Though I would keep some of the weapons, the leftovers would be sold.

Deciding to sell first, I made my way to a desk by the entrance. As the market was run by the three great guilds, there were procedures in place to sell items.

Receptionist: hello sir, how may I help you today?

Unlike the usual android receptionists, this one was actually a human.

Solomon: hi, I've got some weapons I would like to sell.

Receptionist: okay sir, have you sold anything before.

Solomon: no, I haven't.

Receptionist: okay sir, there is two ways in which you can sell your equipment. The first is to set up a stall, then sell them individually. This, of course, comes with a 10% tax from us. On the other hand, you can directly sell you items to us. In that case, though the price may be lower, the overall profit without the tax may be higher. It is also much faster that way.

After thinking it through, I didn't have the time to sit here and pawn off my goods. Though the profit may be higher, I just simply didn't have the time.

Solomon: I'll just sell it directly to you then.

Receptionist: okay sir. May I ask what quantity and quality of items your selling.

Solomon: uh, I'm not too sure to what standard you judge the quality by. I've just got 20 of this quality and 3 of this quality.

Saying so I held out two weapons to the woman. Making sure to pretend that I was taking them out of my pockets.

Receptionist: ah, Forgive me, sir. I'll have a verifier take you to a back room.

Looking at the weapons, she instantly apologised. It appears the level of my items were beyond what would normally be sold over the counter.

After disappearing from the window for 20 seconds or so, she returned. at the same time, a man walked out from a nearby door in the same building. This man was wearing a grey business suit and holding a briefcase, giving off the feeling of an experienced salesman.

Receptionist: if you could follow that man over there sir, he will sort the items for you.

walking over to the man, I was surprised when he introduced himself with an almost 90-degree bow.

Phelix: my apologies sir, on behalf of the market administrator. I, Phelix offer you my apologies.

I was unsure why the man was so apologetic

Solomon: it's okay. If I'm honest, I don't quite understand why you are apologising.

Phelix: usually when people with items of this quality sell to us, we have verifiers like myself personally appraise the items.

It seemed that the level of my equipment was higher than I had first thought. To me, what was useless leftovers, is high-quality items worth individual inspection to others.

Solomon: oh, I'm unversed in selling to the great guilds. If that's how it is then it's fine. There's no need to keep apologising.

Though the man was fawning over me, constantly apologising, I would prefer if he just quickly bought the items from me.

Phelix: thank you for your forgiveness, please follow me.

Walking back in the door we had come through, Phelix led me down a hallway, into a private room. Inside the room was a plain wooden desk along with two comfy armchairs. On the desk was a few items I guessed were used for inspection. Things like magnifying glasses and some weird crystals in different colours.

Phelix: please, take a seat.

Sitting down, I was surprised by the quality of the armchairs. It was like sitting in a cloud.

Phelix: this is one of our inspection rooms. In here there are formations to isolate this space from the outside world. Anything said here will remain confidential.

It was like a low rent version of Diogenes office.

Solomon: okay, I assume that means you will also keep everything in confidence.

Phelix: that's correct.

Nodding his head, I was assured that it was safe to use my interspatial item here.

Solomon: I have all of these to sell.

With a wave of my arm, all of the weapons appeared on a pile next to me.

Phelix: ah, you have an interspatial item.

Solomon: I do, I assume that's not an issue.

I thought I may have been too hasty with revealing one of my biggest secrets. My preconception of the great guilds, from what I had seen, may not be what it appears. Perhaps I had assumed they were more just than it appears.

Phelix: no, it's just that I'm surprised. It's rare that people who have interspatial items sell to us.

It seems that I was overreacting. I imagined once you reached a decent level of strength, the number of points earned here were not worth it anymore.

Solomon: okay, so how much can I get for these.

Even though I could learn a lot from this guy, I was on a timescale. So I tried to move the topic along.

Phelix: we usually test these items before giving an exact figure on the price. It will take around 2 hours with this many.

Solomon: I'm afraid I don't have that much time. Is there a way you could buy them from me right now, even at a reduced price.

Needless to say, two hours was far too long. I hoped he would accept my offer and buy them straight away.

Phelix: I can do that, but the price would be set after a quick inspection by me. The price will most likely be lower.

Solomon: that's fine.

I just wanted to get them sold quickly then go buying things. I didn't expect to get much from them anyway.

Phelix: I'll start with this one then.

Taking an axe of off the top of the pile, he turned it over in his hand. Every time he made an assessment he would voice it out.

Phelix: it's a mid class G rank weapon. It seems to have some sort of fire-based enchantment, as well as another enchantment.

I was surprised by how fast he could decipher the weapon. Then again, it should be no surprise when you consider he's part of the three great guilds.

Solomon: that's all correct, so how much can I get for it?

I wasn't hoping for too much, maybe 50 or so points would be nice.

Phelix: all things considered, around 250 points.

Solomon: 2, 250 POINTS!

Hearing that the price was five times my estimate, I was dumbfounded. For something that was not even worth me using to be worth so much was crazy.

Phelix: that's my estimate, though if it was tested it would probably be more.

Understanding the value of these weapons, I had a realisation. When I gave all of those weapons to Diogenes, I was basically handing over thousands of points.

It was no wonder he was so surprised. If I had known, I would definitely have not given him all of those.

Feeling slightly bitter, I asked him about the few higher quality weapons.

Solomon: what about the other ones?

Phelix: those will be 400 a piece.

Though I was happy the price was high, I felt bitter that I had given away an even better weapon for free.

Solomon; I'll take it.

Phelix: okay then, guild bot, transfer the funds.

Ourous: 6200 points received

With the confirmation from Ourous, the deal was done.

Solomon: I'll take my leave now.

Having finished everything, I wanted to get back to my business. Even though I had received this huge inflow of points, it was useless without tokens. After all, tokens are worth much more than coins. So for now, I would buy what I felt was useful, and save the rest.

Phelix: thank you for the business. if you ever want to sell to us in the future, please feel free.

Seeing me out of the building, Phelix sent me off before returning inside. Walking out into the weapon market, I decided to browse. The main things I was looking for were consumable's. We already had weapons to use, so these would be the best items to invest in.

After walking around for a little while many things had caught my eye. there were grenade items like M9 HE-DP as well as magic items, like the teleportation scroll from overlord. All of these items were useful, unfortunately, though, I wasn't going to buy them.

Though they were all great items. The quantity was too low. Most of the time there was only one. If I brought 50 different types of life-saving it, I would not be able to quickly implement them in a fight. It was unfortunate, but I was going to give up on them for now.

Just as I was about to head for the gate though, I saw something familiar. The old man from before who had sold weapons to me and Alice was here. Like before he was in a dejected edge of the market by himself. With a cloth laid before him, laying on it were a few items.

Walking over, I greeted the old man.

Solomon: hi, I'm not sure if you remember me, you sold this weapon to me.

Know knowing the actual price of this weapon, I was even more curious about this man. Though it was slightly risky, I doubted the man had bad intentions. After all, who sells an expensive item for less than a third of its price.

Old man: hmmmmm. oh, I remember you. You came with that girl before.

After a few seconds, It seemed he had placed me.

Solomon: that's right.

Old man: where is the girl then, she's not dead is she?

Asking so, he was very blunt. If she really had died, it would be inconsiderate to ask like that. But then again, that was judging by normal standards. When you live in Domain, those sort of things end up fading.

Solomon: no, she's just attending to some other things.

I was reluctant to mention too much. As he had met us before, he could see how much we've improved in so little time. It was uncertain what he would do with that information, so I hoped to avoid giving anything away.

Old man: is that so. Anyway, you gonna buy anything today?
