Volume 2 upgrade specialist chapter 26 - fighting a demon
Pulling out the arcane orb I pumped a 40th of my qi into it. At current this was the smallest amount of qi I could use with the flame serpent art.
Aiming the orb I sent it flying at one of the bandits. Though it was only a small amount of qi it still made a powerful attack. The 6x effect of the orb was an invaluable asset.
As the lizards head flew at the bandit he dropped the bow in his hands, pulling out a longsword. Like the scimitar the vice chieftain had before I stole it, this longsword was enchanted. However, it didn't look like it was at the scimitars level.
Taking a stance he jabbed forward with the longsword. As the orb made contact with the sword all of the qi from the attack was pushed forward, putting a strain on the sword. Under this strain it bent slightly, however, before it could break the qi had been used up. Having been repelled the orb flew back to me.
The second bandit who had not been attacked pulled out another enchanted longsword. Looking at them you could tell this was a mass produced weapon. Sword in hand he began to charge at me. With his level of power he would reach me within 5 seconds. Following behind him after recovering from the attack was the first bandit.
I drew the scimitar from my belt, charging towards the bandits. From the attack before I could tell that I would not be able to hurt them with the orb. In order to break the sword I would have to use a tenth of my qi. But it was impossible to prepare an attack of that level quickly.
This only left me with the option to face them in melee combat. Though my strength was inferior to them, the mixture of my races physical abilities and the physical training I had done with Carbones, I could at least hold them at bay.
Within 2 seconds I was face to face with the second bandit. Taking a stance the bandit slashed forward diagonally. I could tell by the smoothness of his movements that this was a practised technique. Though this put me at a disadvantage it was not like I had no practise myself. Having sparred everyday I had built up a unique method of close quarter combat. Though not enough to be called a technique it was certainly a start.
As the slash came towards me I struck at the longsword with my scimitar. Though I was physically stronger the difference in equipment allowed me to hold my ground.
In the brief pause when our blades pressed against each other, I shifted my torso around, taking a step forward. In time with this, I brought the orb forward with my other hand. Not expecting the attack the second bandit could only bring up his arm in defence.
To his surprise when the orb hit his arm he didn't feel any pain. The strength I had was insufficient to deal any physical damage like this, especially when holding the orb in hand. However what he didn't know is that when the orb hit him it destroyed a portion of his longevity. Surprisingly that longevity was then supplied to me, replacing the qi I had lost.

from what i could tell this was an unexpected effect of my enchantment. Normally the longevity would just be destroyed, however now it was stolen and supplied to me as qi.
Having been slightly distracted by this discoveries I was caught off guard. The first bandit had circled to my left side and now aimed to stab me in the heart. With little time to react, I only managed to lean back as the attack arrived.
The longsword dragged itself across the front of my chest. As it cut me a searing pain spread into me. It seemed the longsword had and effect of burning people. However after training with Carbones the heat from this blade was only able to sing me.
It seemed the training I had done with Carbones had now saved me several times, making me feel very thankfull I had befriended him.
Being too close for comfort with the bandits it jumped back. They, however, were not going to let me recover. Jumping towards me they both slashed at me. With a sword attacking from both sides I had little room to maneuverer.
Kicking off against the ground I propelled myself upwards, barely missing the attacks. Now with both of the bandits below me I fuelled a 40th of my qi into the orb, sending it spiralling at them. Because I was so close they had no time to react. The first bandit was hit in the shoulder by the orb. When the qi exploded forth he was consumed in flames.
Not having the time to see the effect of my attack I spiralled through the air, landing a few meters away. Looking at the bandits I could see that the first bandit had horrid burns down the right side of his body. His left arm and eye didn't look like he could use then anymore.
Though he had these grievous wounds he still stood, injured, but able to fight. Luckily the attack had paid for itself when it hit him. That meant if I kept attacking like this then after killing them I would have lost none of my qi.
Speeding forward the bandits kept attacking me, however after a few rounds of attacks I had once again managed to attack, hitting the second bandit in the torso. Now that they were both heavily injured they had no hope of winning. It was obvious I would win.
Shooting each other a quick look they both nodded. This put me on edge. When they looked back at me both of them carried death in their eyes. The kind of look that says they would give up their lives to kill you.
Facing them seriously I prepared for whatever they would do.
The first bandit took the sword off of the second one. Then with both swords, he impaled the second bandit.
Taken completely by surprise, I watched as the two swords began to glow with a faint red light. As the light kept growing brighter the corpse of the dead bandit began to wither, eventually turning to dust.

Then with the two swords covered in a veil of red energy, he stabbed himself in the shoulders with them. The energy transferred into his body at this point. As it worked its way through him his eyes turned blood red. When all of the energy had seeped into him, he underwent a complete change.
Red flames erupted from his body, consuming his flesh. The exposed muscle of his body bulged out looking like wriggling tentacles. From his head, two horns made of deep scarlet flames appeared.
Clasping his grotesque hands together, the red flames on his body coalesced around them. The mass of flames then formed into a large claymore. Now with a grotesque body and a flame made sword and horns he looked demonic.
As I stared down my enemy I felt dread. The power he was emitting was several times stronger than before.
Taking the initiative the demonic bandit pounced towards me. As he did the ground he stood on was crushed. The speed he reached was faster than I could register. Before I knew it he was before me, punching towards me. As his malformed fist hit me I felt like I'd been hit by a bus.
With blood spewing from my mouth I went flying. Stopping when I smashed into a nearby house. Getting up from the rubble I could feel that I had broken a few ribs. Just as I finished recovering the demonic bandit had once again reached me, this time slashing with his sword.
Falling to one knee I narrowly avoided the attack. Then trying to force him away I fuelled a tenth of my qi into the orb, smashing the lizards head into his stomach. As the attack hit him he was pushed back several meters. When the flames had cleared though there was no damage on him.
After checking himself the demonic bandit gave me an evil grin. The malice in his face sending a chill down his spine. Not having the choice anymore I went straight to my last resort. Grabbing the orb I pumped it full with half of my qi.
seeing me at my end the demonic bandit let me get of the attack. It probably wanted to crush any hope I had before killing me.
As the lizard head and arms appeared the demonic bandit prepared to take the attack. Though he was confident in receiving it, it was not something he could casually block. As the attack came speeding at him he lifted his sword up vertically. When it was right before him he brought the sword down.
As the power of the flame lizard and sword fought several shockwaves spread out. While he was distracted with the attack I took my scimitar and charged. Being sure to keep myself behind my attack so he could not see me.
As the attack were both so strong the struggle lasted for around ten seconds. When the final bit of qi was exhausted, and the attack disappeared I struck. Jumping up I appeared right in front of the bandit. Then with the satisfied grin on his face I slashed at him with my scimitar. As it embedded itself into his neck the grin was wiped from his face.
When the sword had cut through his neck, decapitating him, only fear was on his face.
Ourous: secret mission objective completed, kill demonic tribe defector. Rewarded G rank token and 200 points.
It was a fitting prize. Based on this I could guess that the chieftain would be on the same level. Though it was a huge worry if we all worked together I'm certain we could win.
Having finished off my target I looked over at my allies. The other bandit had been killed, leaving only the vice chieftain. The chieftain knelt as Yunfei was about to kill him.
Solomon: STOP!
Looking over everyone had a questioning look on their face. Walking over I explained why I had stopped them.
Solomon: he can tell us where the chieftain is, can't you?
Looking at the beaten vice chieftain I questioned him. Though he looked reticent he spoke.
Yang tian: HAHAHAHA, I guess it won't matter now anyway. He's in the lobby of the mansion. But you guys must be deluded if you think you can beat him. HE'S GOING TO KILL YOU ALL HAHAHAHA!
Not wanting to listen to a broken man's ramblings, I knocked him out with a swift punch to the chin.
Solomon: annoying bastard. Okay, let's take a break here, try to recover as much as you can. Also, does anyone mind If I use this guy to regain my energy?
Tired of fighting everyone nodded. Taking out my orb I tapped him with it till he died. I managed to refill my qi up to 100% before he died. Hopefully, that along with the recharge from dragons fire would be enough.
Sitting down we began to discuss strategy. Looking around the area we made several plans. Firstly we would enter the lobby. We would begin fighting the chieftain there, gauging his power. If we could beat him there we would keep fighting there. If we couldn't we would draw him outside. With the open space, we might be able to fight better.
In the worst case scenario that he far overpowered us we would each run in different directions. Hopefully like this most of us would survive. Though I didn’t like this sort of plan it was the best we had. As the leader I had to accept that. Standing up we walked over to the mansion.
Placing my hand on the front door I made one last vow to myself. We will win.

Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.
