Volume 2 upgrade specialist chapter 24 - hit and run
When the barrier broke a white light emitted from it. The energy had become unstable and was thrashing about. After a second it smashed into pieces. Little snowflake-like particles of energy floated down. Though it was a pretty sight it created an issue.
Judging from the unranked's reaction, they could see it too. This meant that every one of the bandits was now aware the barrier had broken. Though it was bad, it wasn't outside my expectations. Even if they knew the barrier broke they wouldn't be able to tell where we were. So even if they prepared they could do nothing.
Having a G rank in every group meant one thing. As long as they didn't encounter the chieftain, vice-chieftain or a group of soul personage they would be able to inflict serious damage. Though I still suspected the vice chieftain was recovering from his battle with me.
Solomon: let's not dawdle, move out.
Speaking to the unranked, I then began jogging in the strongholds direction. Soon after they were following behind me. As the barrier stretched into the forest it would take us a few minutes to make it to the stronghold's clearing.
As I ran I was running through several scenarios in my head, trying to make plans. However, there were too many uncertainties. The best I could doo was to cause a large amount of destruction from my side. If I did the most damage hopefully I would draw most of the attention. For this purpose, I had not used the dragon's fire today.
It took a quarter of my qi to break the barrier so I had 3 quarters to draw attention.
Having run for a few minutes we made it to the clearing. As we looked out at the stronghold we could see signs of the enemies panic.
Solomon: it loos like they don't now what happened. This is good for us.
Turning I told the unranked my plan.
Solomon: I'm going to send a strong attack at the strongholds wall. It should be enough to brake through the wall. After that one of two things will happen. Either a strong enemy will come out to deal with me, or a sea of bandits will spill out. It depends on who is at that point in the wall. Be ready for either.
Having given my instructions and warnings we ran forward. As soon as we were out in the open the bandits had seen us. With my enhanced vision, I could see they were preparing arrows to fire at us. Based on the size of the bows they could shoot at most half way across the clearing. though that was just a guess.
Solomon: stop here.
Coming to a stop I prepared my attack. I would use half of my qi along with the orb and the flame serpent art.
As the energy pooled into the orb it was powered up. Unlike before it felt even stronger. With the buff from Yunfei, it was making my attacks 6x stronger. Adding on that I had double my qi from the last time I had used it this attack would be 3x stronger than the strongest attack I had used so far.

With such a mass of power, the energy became extremely hard to control. Even with my higher level of control, it was taking my all to pull it off. After ten seconds I had performed the Flame serpent art.
The qi burst out of the orb slowly forming into the lizards head. After forming the head, which was already 3 meters wide, it kept going. Forming the shoulders and front legs of the lizard. At that point, it shot off.
Moving at a speed faster than I could track it hit the wall within 3 seconds. As it hit, the two arms made of qi lashed out, hitting the wall. As they made contact with the wall they exploded. All of the qi that had been stored exploded out.
After the smoke cleared a 15-meter section of the wall had been reduced to ash. This level of power was far beyond my expectations. I was sure I could smash a hole in the wall, but to destroy a large section of it was unexpected.
Ourous: 26 bandits killed, 52 points rewarded.
Then again if I took all the factor into account it made some sense. The mixture of my upgraded qi, the orbs 6x bonus and the fire nature of my qi it made sense that it would destroy something wooden easily.
Even so, this was not an attack a G rank could usually make. It was comparable to the average attack of an F rank unfortunately whereas they could use this sort of attack many times I could only use it twice.
Breaking out of my surprise I issued the unranked orders.
Solomon: move forward, attack them. We have 20 minutes so make as many points as you can.
Brought back from the surprise of my power they charged forward. Seeing my strength the bandits faltered. Though they knew they could kill me with numbers it would cost them a lot.
After a minute we had reached the hole in the wall. Standing to greet us was a group of ten men. Behind them were around 200 ordinary bandits. Among these men 1 was a middle soul personage, 3 were early soul personage and the rest were late soul apprentice.
Solomon: I will take these guys, you deal with the bandits behind them.
Slightly lowering my voice I said to them.
Solomon: don't worry about winning, you just have to hold out till I kill these guys.
Even with the upgrades on their equipment, it would be hard to kill so many. Having been given a realistic goal they ran around the soul cultivators, eager to earn some points.
At this point, the strongest of the cultivators spoke.
Middle soul personage: I'm sure you know we have no chance at killing you, however, if we can hold you here till the chieftain arrives he will kill you. We can let you leave if you run now.
Though he tried to remain calm it was obvious they had no confidence in holding me here that long, they were just trying to trick me into leaving.

Solomon: I'm afraid today is not your day, you will all die here. But don't worry, I will be sure to cremate your bodies.
Taking the initiative I took 5% of my qi into each hand, sending 2 small lizard heads at them. One on the left and one on the right. Reacting instinctually they both moved to dodge the attacks, bunching together between the two attacks.
Now taking the orb into my hand, I put the remaining 15% of my qi into the orb. As it went flying at them panic flared in their eyes. Though it was much weaker than my previous attack it was not something any of them could handle.
As it reached them it hit the man at the front, the middle soul personage. It drilled a hole through his torso before continuing into the rest of the group, eventually exploding in-between them.
Ourous: 6 bandits killed, 12 points rewarded.
Of the surviving 4 bandits, 2 had lost a limb and 1 had a huge chunk of his torso missing. The only person able to still fight was a late soul apprentice. Recovering from the attack and realising he was the only uninjured person he was terrified. Throwing himself to the floor he begged for his life.
Soul apprentice: p, PLEASE, SPARE ME. I DIDN'T MEAN TO OFFEND YOU. I BEG OF YOU FORGIVE ME.
If he looked at me right now he would be able to tell that I had used all of my power. unluckily for him, he was too terrified to think strait right now. Walking forward I pulled out the scimitar I had stolen from the vice chieftain. Standing before him I said.
Solomon: it's too late to beg now.
Then I swiftly lifted up and brought down the scimitar, beheading him. Not wanting to waste time I did the same to the injured bandits.
Ourous: 4 bandits killed, 8 points rewarded.
Having dealt with the only real threat I looked over at the unranked. Right now they were back to back in the middle of the bandits. From the amount of dead bodies on the floor, it looked like they had killed around 50 of the bandits by now.
At this point though, they were beginning to lose momentum. The combination of small wounds and non-stop fighting had sapped them. Not wanting to risk them getting injured I sped at the bandits.
Reaching the first man I relieved him of his head before moving on to the next man. Like this, I began to slaughter them. Even without qi, the strength of my body and equipment was vastly superior to them. Every time I swung my sword one of them died. As I kept killing the voice of Ourous would periodically tell me how many I had killed.
Ourous: 7 bandits killed, 14 points awarded.
Ourous: 5 bandits killed, 10 points awarded.
Ourous: 8 bandits killed, 16 points awarded.
After 5 minutes we had finished killing all of the bandits. At this point, we heard a war cry in the distance. Looking into the base we say an army of several thousand approaching us. Deciding we had dealt enough damage I gave the order to withdraw.
Solomon: it's time to leave, let's go.
Running out through the massive gap in the wall we began running back to the regroup point. After 10 minutes we had made it there. As no one else was here we were probably the first to arrive.
5 minutes later Aries, Alice and the unranked with them returned though they all looked tired they were uninjured.
Solomon: how did it go for you guys.
Alice: it went quite well. After braking through the wall we were greeted by a group of 500 bandits, luckily there were no soul cultivators there.
Solomon: sounds like you got lucky, I had to fight against a group of ten soul cultivators.
Aries: sounds rough, you probably didn't make many points then.
Solomon: no, I killed around 150 bandits.
Hearing my response they were amazed.
Alice: haha, I suppose I should expect this from you, but I'm still surprised every time.
Aries: how did you kill so many? Especially after dealing with soul cultivators.
At this point, one of the unranked who came with me chimed in.
John: you should have seen it. He blew up a whole section of the wall.
Aries: huh.
Solomon: don't worry about it, I got just got lucky.
At this point, Gareth and yunfei made it back. After a short conversation, it seemed they had been lucky as well. They had been greeted by 17 soul apprentices and 300 men.
Shortly after, the last group arrived they also had only faced weak opponents. At this point, we moved on to the next part of our plan. We would stay here for an hour to recover then we would attack again.
Like this, we spent the rest of the day before returning to base. By the end of the day, we had attacked the enemies 4 times, ending up killing around 3,000 of them. Luckily it seemed like the stronger enemies were not getting involved. Though I wondered why it was good for us either way.
Having finished attacking for the day we headed back to base. After arriving we had a short diner before heading to bed.
like this, we kept attacking the stronghold day after day, until the day of the final attack.

Rise of the First Necromancer
Asrael Nessarat awakes on a sandy dune with a mouthful of sand and nothing but tattered rags in his posession. As the High Magus of the school of Necromancy, he once aspired to prove to the Emperor that magic still held a place in their society. But that day came, passed and inevitably accelerated his kind's downfall. Now; they are hunted, strung up and burned on pyres throughout the Empire by the Emperor's holy Inquisition- an efficient and ruthless army hell-bent on bleeding every last droplet of magic from the lands. With nothing but a mouthful of sand and tattered rags; Asrael is determined to seek the one thing his cold, still heart desires. Vengeance. This story can, at times, get very dark. It is not recommended for the faint of heart. This is not a story of an overtly powerful wizard who can pulverize his enemies from across the world, nor is it in any way, shape or form a joyous tale. We follow Asrael as he and his companions explore and seek to change an unjust world, where kindness and acceptance are exceptions, rather than the rule. If you are looking for a story to inspire hope or joy, this is not it. If you wish to read about likeable, heroic people, turn around. If you wish to see good battle evil, where the cut in between is clear, then this is not for you.
