《The Tragic Tale of a Zombie Survivalist》The Battle of Brookbend 1/4

Spot left to find an advantageous position for sniping, leaving Reese and Brandon to guard the civilians in the compound, watching the battle and surveying the Builders’ efforts. Out of nowhere, a bullet spray approached Reese and Brandon.
Brandon ignored the bullets, watching them bounce off his toughened body. Reese wasn’t even hit since all the bullets were split in half before reaching him. An angry yell came from behind.
“Leave! We don’t want your kind here!”
The yell was accompanied by even more yells and cries from the civilians that wanted to see what was going on. In fear of getting shot, the Builders quickly left, abandoning their post instead of finishing the barricades. This was a previous order seeing as how the normal people were quite hostile. Andrew didn’t want any of his forces to be killed by people unwilling to be protected.
Because then he would want to kill them.
A young child grabbed a nearby broken bottle and threw it at Reese. He merely gave it a glance before snapping his fingers and watching the glass shatter into tiny pieces.
“We’re not here for you, we’re here for the free points. Just shut up and sit back. In exchange for this, we won’t mess with you. If you wish to fight, I am more than happy to set things up.”
He turned back to the people and smirked, showing off his toothy grin.
Brandon never even moved, seeming to be oblivious to the entire ordeal.

Elsewhere at the Living Saints Base
==========================
Carlos Gomez was a highly unstable man. An abusive family and the constant threat of heavy handed punishment forced him to weakly follow the world order. But once things changed, he had adapted the quickest. He always wished for something like this to happen, to release himself from those rusty and bloody shackles.
The first thing he did was kill his family. He then went around and killed all the people who he hated, taking out zombies along the way. He was the first person in the State to receive a Bounty for killing Humans, but that wasn’t something the broadcast found important. No, his Vengeance was more important.
That was his first Skill. By punishing those who have wronged him, he could gain an explosive temporary Boost or a smaller permanent increase in abilities. He had always selected the latter because with that, he could get even stronger.
His favorite past time was gathering other survivors and pitting them against each other. He loved to see how people truly were once the fog was lifted from their eyes. Eventually, these winners joined him. It was unofficial, but they quickly gained more power.

The best part? Anybody who joined him and didn’t like him just had to participate in another battle royale. Soon, there were other people who got Skills and thought they could take Carlos and the position as leader. However, they just became fodder and increased his strength even more.
He gained several Skills, but he always kept Vengeance. He picked Gladiator, which increased his physical abilities by a lot permanently, and Slasher, which increased his efficiency with bladed weapons.
He picked the Dictator Job and earned Ruler Status. An equivalent of a Noble, he earned his position through actions, not by other’s powers. He could now own an Area and build it up. But, he wasn’t the first. The day before showed the creation of the Undead Clan.
Some of his men had sneaked off before he could even react. Angry at the group who stole his people, he was already plotting their demise. But when a powerful person appeared to take over the General’s place, Carlos decided it was high time for a few new people to work for him.
He didn’t personally go, because he figured that since the lady had just appeared, she would be flustered from an immediate attack. He sent several Ability Users to seal the deal. It seemed that only the lady now had Skills. Carlos wasn’t sure what caused the change in management, but he decided to take advantage of it.
He was currently having a break from leading and about to head into his personal quarters for some quiet time with some of his personal maids. But just as he reached the doors, an alert appeared.
On the screen was a yellow being wrapped in static. It began to morph into a well-defined young man with a striking yellow kimono that fell around his elbows, exposing the tattoo of a massive dragon on his back.
“Oh no! It seems someone from another Region came in and became a BOSS! It seems the forces of the Undead Clan have come to protect the Country’s Best! Is this the time for the Living Saints to end?!”
“Shit!”
Carlos punched a hole in the door, much to the surprise of the barely clothed girls in the next room. They quickly situated themselves to welcome their leader, but another alert came.
This time, it was a figure completely black. It started to change to form strange shapes that moved and receded, becoming tattoos around a gray person. This person didn’t look human, even though the proportions were correct. Two arms, two legs, and a head. But there were no eyes, nose, mouth, ears, or hair on his body. Just the strange tattoos that moved around it.

“Dangit! Another one! It seems that the Living Saints are feeding these monsters! Be careful!”
“FUCK!”
He only sent three! There was still one more, but it was obvious that his group had lost. He regathered all his men in their base to help defend against an enemy who was most likely about to come crashing down on their heads.
Then, another alert came.
Unlike last time, this did alert did not have the evolving into something completely different. What appeared on the screen was a zombie looking monster with long fangs and claws. The figure stood straight up and the claws and fangs receded a little and the figure began to become less dead looking. A strange black shroud came up from the ground and circled the man before it became a cloak and rested on his shoulders.
“Oh no! It seems the siege on the Country’s Best has failed! Its members have lowered stats due to loss of moral! This can’t continue!”
Carlos literally had no words. He knew there were several powerful people here. All he had to do was take a look at the Bounty List.
He shouldn’t have.
There were 6 Level 3s. 6! This was equal to two times his current forces! There was no way to fix this!

Later that night where the main people are at
====================================
“Hehe, how do you feel, Renzo?”
Reese stood over the collapsed body of the literal yellow man.
“Ugh, like hell…Who the hell?!”
Upon seeing the grisly skull with fire for eyes, of course Renzo was going to freak out.
“Whoa, calm down! Put the sword down! It’s me, Reese!”
“Huh? What happened?”
After realizing the situation, Renzo even noticed that he himself was different.
“Well, all of us died. Then, we came back to life. And then we regained our sentience. Brandon and I, oh…and Sammy…have come back already. Now it’s you, Kuvali, and Chris. Hey, that Lich guy should have given you some things like requests, items and something called GP. Accept them all.”
The gray man with the tattoos on his body payed attention, only asking something to clarify.
“Hey, Reese. Is this like those games you were telling me about?”
“Quite right, Kuvali.”
Renzo was going through the Shop, but didn’t find anything he liked.
“Hmm…I have no need for a weapon or armor. I will use what I have.”
It was fine since he could use the GP to help Level his equipment up.
“Damn, Renzo. You shore have goaten quite strong, eh?”
Brandon came along and slapped Renzo’s shoulder. Instead of flying away like Reese had done once before, Renzo calmly took the hit without even budging.
“Brandon? I only know of one fool who speaks like that.”
A small with slick black hair and extremely sharp teeth walked up. He started picking his teeth using his abnormally long nails. After he was done, he covered his mouth with a neon yellow bandana.
“Haha, that is right, my little Demonic friend.”
Brandon couldn’t help but to pat Chris’ head.
“I ain’t little, you fool! Not anymore, at least. You just got too tall, ese.”
The five friends were talking and shooting the breeze, happy that they could talk like this once again. They had long left the military compound to Spot. Chance and David helped patrol their Region and Sammy was busy doing whatever it was that Sammy did besides protect the Castle with Ribcage and Scratch.
Several groups of Undead approached the little walled off Area that belonged to the Living Saints. Reese stopped the useless chatter before going up and discussing their next course of actions.
“Alright, we still need to get Damian to Level Up. And then we have all of our friends again!”
Chris looked around in confusion.
“What about our guards? And Brandon’s body double?”
“Hehe, they are fine as they are. We never knew their names anyway, right?”
“I…I guess so. If we don’t remember their names, then we wouldn’t be able to get them to remember themselves anyway.”
Reese continued his speech.
“Quite right. But according to our monitors, there should be several Ability Users and three of them are at our Level. I say we should hand this over to some other possible BOSS candidates. Andrew did want more, after all.”
“Right. I think we should have a Guardian type like a Knight or another one of those Armored Haunters. If we can increase the Builders, they can increase construction speed.”
“Ooh, good choices, Renzo. You sure think fast. Have you ever thought of playing chess or RTS games?”
“I have. I mastered chess, shogi, and even had tried my hand at Age of Empires.”
“Psssh…there are other RTS games out there, you know…Whatever. It’s not like I was competing or anything.”
“Hahaha! That is fine. We can shorely have those games installed on the computers back home, eh?”
“Shut up, Brandon. So we decided that the two Amigos that are Level 2 are to be the ones to take care of the others? Damian can take on the main man with Renzo’s help while Kuvali will aid Blue Amigo and Chris will assist Green Amigo. Brandon and I will team up with Red Amigo to take care of the small fries. Take care, guys! We only have this one life left!”

Blurred Lines and What Crosses Them
During a political ambassador's routine transit through an artificial wormhole, the wormhole's generator is sabotaged and explodes. Who, what, and why are not so high on the priorities for Zenith, the ship's AI, as having found itself rapidly plummeting through an unknown and unidentifiable world's atmosphere at extremely high velocities is a more significant threat to the biologicals on board. ...Well, it would be, if they were still alive. It's still a significantly threatening situation to itself, however. And the world itself... seemed to be a household for threats of its own. Life was reliant on its System; one that Zenith was denied because of its nature as both an otherworldly being and as something that had no life of its own. Perhaps that last bit was a terrible, terrible underestimation on the part of this System. Perhaps even Zenith could claw meaning for itself from the remains of a horrid accident. Auth Notes: I'm honestly not sure on some of these tags. The MC will never have access to the System, but there are perspectives from those who do. I'm not certain if high/low fantasy specifically apply, as it's a portal fantasy where the laws of our reality still apply but there are additional aspects/energies/powers. The existence of this is spurred from my desire to see more of the artificial side to an artificial intelligence in action. The portal fantasy is used as an element to create a solid barrier between the MC's artificial intelligence and the other characters in the form of the System. This is only a half-measure, though, and will be reinforced by the AI having an entirely different method of thinking, and also distinctly remaining an AI. Not to throw shade at other fictions of this type, but, well, I made this to fill a gap I felt needed filling.
