《The God Effect》Chapter 7: Mum Won't Get Drunk, No Sir

My lessons with the Magicians had started a little over a week after my testing, which was apparently when everyone had finished their testing.
Mr. Hoovencloff was the teacher I saw the most of all my teachers.
He was the head of the ‘Temporal Enduxia’ guild, which basically specialised in pockets of general magic such as Summoning, Combat, and Runes.
My other teachers were Addei and Illei Moignon, fraternal twins that looked identical in every aspect other than the fact that they were opposite genders.
Qinin Haqin, a sleepyhead who really liked tea and fluffy things (she’s pretty chill).
Severus Sormude, a noble-mannered man that took no shit (he was one of my faves), and Pullix Esqor, the lolicon teacher that was addicted to battle.
Mr.Hoovencloff taught me Summoning, Mr. and Ms. Moignon taught me Imbuement of Magic, Ms. Haqin taught me Astronomy and how to use ‘The Sight’ (aka sense training), Mr.Sormude taught me Runes, Alchemy and Natural Magics (naturally occurring magic), and Ms. Esqor taught me combat tactics, various weaponry wielding and physical training.
Mr.Hoovencloff was interesting to listen to when he got into something.
His knowledge about Summoning was incredible, and impressed me to say the least.
He seemed to get so into telling me about certain topics that he would take on a different persona.
His subconscious nervous ticks went away and he looked like a true scholar; confident, perfectly-postured and critical.
That being said, it wasn't until a few lessons in that I truly learned his aptitude for Summoning- the reason he ranked to high in the Magical Court, and why he was the head of his guild.
When my first lesson came around, I was relieved.
Yes, my lessons had been fun with my private tutors, but I seemed to have wrung them dry for material to learn, and the lessons were becoming more and more superfluous as the days continued.
That being said, I wasn't thankful for the extended carriage ride to the center I was to have my new lessons.
The carriages of this world were like hell on the butt cheeks.
Due to my boney baby butt, I had bruises that were dark red and purple right where my hip bones would be vibrating against the carriage seat when I first came to my lessons.
That had made me sour and moody to begin with, which wasn't perhaps the best mood for me to have been in when being first introduced to my new teachers.
Luckily, Mr.Hoovencloff was an understanding man.
I had arrived at the center, and thrown myself from the confined space of the carriage, Wisp jumping out after me.
He had managed to make his form less conspicuous, by altering it into a more corporeal form, condensing it into a more muscular and lizard-cat shape.
Wisp stretched once he was out of the death trap for buttcheeks, and stretched his spine in a down-dog-like position, much like a cat.

I watched as his spine rolled and Mama softly caressed my head.
I looked up.
“Honeybear, I am going to take you to your new teachers, and whilst you're doing your lessons, I’ll be at the Public House, okay?” She smiled down warmly at me, like a goddess, her face seemingly sparkling with beauty.
I nodded, “Okay, Mama, don’t drink too much,”
Mama blushed and laughed awkwardly, looking away, a slight hint of pink dusting across her cheeks.
Wisp purred with his four sets of vocal chords and rubbed his face against my cheek, eager to get going with the lessons.
I stroked Wisp under his jawbone, and felt the purrs vibrate against my hand as well continued towards the doors.
As soon as we reached the doors, they opened, and we walked in.
Mr.Hoovencloff was nervously running his hands through his hair as we arrived and stopped the moment he saw us.
His eyes darted from Mama's face, to mine, then down to Wisp’s and back to mine again.
He nervous grinned and strode quickly towards us, “Hello!”
He spoke in his slightly meek voice, “Hello, I’m glad you arrived so early! Today is going to be filled with many lessons, as you are going to meet with all of your teachers,”
He spoke directly to me, then turned his face up to Mama again, “A pleasure, Lady Silvertongue-- Miss Yunano’s lessons should finish at about six twenty-five. Her -uh- Summon… “
He looked back down at Wisp, getting lost in a slight daze for a moment, before snapping himself out of it and nervously nodding, “Ah- yes, it should be useful to be accompanying her today,”
Mother smiled at him then nodded, “That is fine,”
She looked down at me bent down, placing a soft kiss on my cheek, “I will see you after your classes, sweetheart. Have fun!”
She squeezed my hand before waving to Mr.Hoovencloff, a quiet, “Look after her well, Gunter!” Escaping her as she flew the premises, and headed towards the Pub.
Gunter nervously gulped as he heard her departing statement then looked back down at me, “-Uh, Miss Yunano, please follow me,”
I looked up at him, eyes half-lidded,
and nodded.
Gunter spun around on his heel and started striding in the direction of the hallway.
We walked in silence, reaching a door labelled ‘Hoovencloff’, before entering.
Inside was a brightly-lit office, with a large floor -to- ceiling window behind a large desk.
It had a pair of couches to the right, and a large table to the left, smothered by piles and piles of loose papers with runes and Summon Type circles.
I looked around with my eyes, then walked forward and plopped myself on the chair in front of his desk.
Gunter sat at his desk and pulled out a folder.

“Er- Here is your -uh- timetable. Your subjects are expanded upon in the documents for each of them,”
He looked around the room and cringed when he noticed the mess on the table, “I’ll -uh- clean up whilst you read that…”
And so I scanned through my documents as he scooped up papers and deposited them around the room.
My subjects were Summoning, which was basically creating/summoning items and organisms from magic circles; Imbuement of Magic, which was the directional infusion of magic within items to make them have different qualities or have certain uses; Astronomy, which was the study of stars and planets and how they can be read and utilised for magical output; Arithmancy, the study of magic of the mind and seeing into the future and stuff; Runes, the creation of magical circles and languages; Alchemy, potion making and concoction of magical substances; Natural Magics, the occurrence of magic in nature and the utilization of such; and Combat, which was basically just combat training.
Once I was finished, I looked up to see an awkwardly shifting Gunter, whose hands were linked nervously together, his gaze not meeting mine.
What is he?
Some kind of schoolgirl, confessing to her crush???
I nodded my head, “So you're teaching me Summoning. What exactly is Summoning?”
Mr. Hoovencloff then brightened up and went head-first into a rant about Summoning and the intricacies of it, and the technical definition and whatnot.
Before we knew it, our classtime had concluded, and a sharp knock on the door shook us from our heated discussion about geometric influence on Summoning runes and how they exactly affect the subject being summoned.
Both of our heads turned to see the door swing open, two tall, long orange-haired figures strode in.
Their wide cattish grins instantly reminded me of a certain pair of red-headed twins from a certain Japanese cartoon, and their confident stances made me think that they were going to be pretty loud.
They took me off-guard, though, when they looked down at me and hearts popped up in their eyes.
They cooed down at me quietly, enamored with my baby-face.
Mr.Hoovencloff and I sighed in unison.
I was already getting a headache, despite the fact that they weren't loud.
I pushed their pinching fingers away and sighed, “Please refrain from touching me unnecessarily, you are my teachers for heaven’s sake,”
They both realised their predicament and shook off their doting nature, shaking their heads and clearing their throats, nodding.
I looked between their faces.
They were Fraternal Twins.
Very interesting.
They looked to be beastkin, as they had a pair of ginger cat-like tails waving around behind them.
I smiled, “You must be Addei and Illei Moignon. I am Yunano Silvertongue. A pleasure to make your acquaintance,”
They both nodded in appreciation at my manners, and then grinned at Gunter, “We’re going to take her now!” Started Addei.
“Before you steal her away to keep talking about whatever!” Finished Illei.
I waved goodbye to Gunter and followed the pair of twins to their office.
It was similar to Gunter’s, except wider and had a desk on one side of the room, and another one the other side of the room, with a set of couches in the centre, between them.
We all sat at the couches and chatted for my lesson.
Imbuement of Magic requires a lot of Mana, especially for permanent charms, so we're mostly going to be doing theory, until I'm a bit older.
I learned that the twins were, in fact, Beastkin, and they had charmed their earrings to make their ears look human.
Addei had an affinity for water magic, and Illei had an affinity for fire magic.
My next class was with Ms.Haqin.
We went up to the Astronomy tower (her office) and had tea.
She had pastel green hair, droopy brown eyes, and wore big round glasses.
We talked about stars and planetary fate line in constellations.
It was a very relaxing lesson.
My next class was with Mr.Sormude.
He had a very critical eye, but was an overall nice guy.
He had straight, shoulder length pastel purple hair, indigo eyes, and sharp, frowny eyebrows.
He was Elven.
He was kind of stand-offish to begin with, but warmed up to me after he had realized my genuine interest and innate talent for learning his subjects.
Alchemy was really just cooking, but with magic ingredients, and was a bit like Magic Body Tempering in that it was easy to define levels of power within the concoctions.
Runes was about inscriptions and their magical potency, and how language is harnessed throughout Magical Manipulation.
Natural Magics was an interesting subject, particularly for me, as it was about the existence of magic in nature and magical beasts.
After Mr. Sormude’s class I had Ms. Esquor.
She had burst into the room loudly, causing Mr.Sormude to jolt and spill his tea slightly onto the black stone bench.
He glared at her with his characteristic scowly brows and snarled, “Must you be so… Chaotic, Pullix? Your disregard toward others’ peace is detestful.”
The fiery woman had long, curly, salmon-coloured hair, and a booty that could bring nations to ruin.
Her yellow slanted eyes twinkled brightly once she locked on to my small form, daintily drinking from a teacup of milk.
Before I knew it, I was knocked to the ground, and out like a light.

Legends of Balarel - A Leisurely LitRPG
Glenn Redwood has longed to become an Adventurer since he was a young boy, and has focused every waking moment on that goal since turning 14. Answering the challenge of the Gods of Balarel, he has fought Monsters, Leveled, and grown stronger. Yet the day before his 16th birthday, the day he will earn his dream or lose it forever ... the Gods have made a wager. And no mere mortal wishes to draw the attention of the Gods. ***** This is my crack at writing a leisurely LitRPG. My focus is more on telling interesting stories set in a world where people live under a MMORPG-like ruleset enforced by the Gods, and less on writing another story where the MC gets massive stat boosts every chapter before heading off to wreck the world. There will be plenty of blue tables (it’s LitRPG!) but my Adventurers are just starting out. This fic is about the journey, not the destination, so expect everyone to Level ... leisurely. Updates: M-T-W-Th. I’ll post 3000-4000 words a day, or 12000-15000 words a week. If this posting pace ends up being too much for me, I reserve the right to slow posts down a bit. Inspirations: Blessed Time (Royal Road) Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon? (Anime) Trails in the Sky (JRPG Series) MC: My MC is a genuinely good person who’s both a talented warrior and tactically savvy. He prefers to solve problems without violence but will resort to force if necessary to protect his friends or innocent people. I’m tired of stories starring anti-hero MCs facing endless doom and gloom, so I wanted to write a nice guy with an adventurous spirit who helps people in a thriving fantasy world. That’s all.

Embers in the Ash
Four ordinary young people from four corners of the Earth wake up on a hill in another world. Here, their very presence is a crime against the Gods. On the fringes of civilization, life is often brief and always violent, but in the Empire's Heartland, implacable hunters seek to rectify their blasphemous existence with Blade and Fire. To return home, they will need to adapt to a place where their life will be earned in steel. But what will they be ready to sacrifice for their goal? Will their flame flicker out like so many others before them? Or will they thrive as Embers in the Ash? Hello, and welcome to my first fiction on this site! Embers in the Ash is an epic fantasy adventure story that aims to span quite a few chapters (I hope!). To set expectations, this isn't going to be a LitRPG or power fantasy-style story. I'm aiming for a fairly grounded story set in a fairly high-fantasy world. I hope you enjoy it! For this first month of publication, my aim is to give you, the reader, something to really bite into. I will be releasing a chapter every day at 9:15 AM EST (13:15 GMT), as well as the occasional double chapter (which will always be announced by a post-chapter author blurb). Check in fifteen minutes after the first chapter's release! After this first month of publication, the aim is to go for either a weekly or bi-weekly release schedule, depending on the sort of time I can reliably dedicate to writing. Either way, settle in for the long haul, and welcome to the story!
