《The God Effect》Chapter 3: Cousin Rosie Is Too Cute

I opened my eyes, internally musing that the pale pink petals fluttering past me in the sweet-smelling breeze and the soft orchestral music was reminiscent of openings to Otome games from my past world, before stepping out with Mama to the walkway that was situated around the round courtyard garden. The bushes grew tall, so I was not yet tall enough to see over them into the centre, though I heard the sounds of people talking from there.
Papa twirled me around and scooped me up into his arms before we descended the stairs into the courtyard, and Mama followed by his side as we made our way into the centre. There was a big white table in the centre of the courtyard, and my aunts and uncles were sat around it, in addition to a young girl with short curly blonde hair that was in pigtails.
The girl was eating a big pink macaroon, pink crumbs covered her face and napkin that was tied around her neck.
Her parents looked up from their child and to me, a glint of distain entering their eyes as they gazed upon my parents and myself.
My other aunt and uncle lit up as they saw me, jumping from their seats and rushing towards Mama and Papa.
The woman, presumably Mollevia Silvertongue, had long straight black hair and tanned skin with bright green eyes that shone like jewels. Upon her head were two short brown horns, and her elven ears seemed to have a layer of black fuzz to them. She enveloped Mama in a warm hug, which Mama reciprocated.
The male, presumably Annenen Silvertongue, had short and choppy silver hair, very pale skin, though darker than Papa's, and pale blue eyes. His left eyebrow had a pale pink scar running through it.
A grin overcame his features as he gazed upon Papa and I, and he enveloped Papa into a hug, squishing me between the two bodies.
Deep laughs rumbled in both he and Papa's chests, and for a moment I was stuck in a world of darkness and rumbling laughter. Uncle Annenen pulled back and grinned down at my tiny form, tapping me on the nose, "Happy birthday little Yunano! I'm Uncle Annenen, your Papa's brother!"
I wiggled my nose at the ticklish tap, and nodded, "Thankyou, Uncle. Nice to meet you,"
Uncle Annenen was both shocked at my cuteness and my very eloquent speech, his face contorted into a weird mixture between awe and muffled adoration.
A cough escaped him, and he cleared his throat, "A-ah, yeah... Well, this is Auntie Mollevia, she's my wife,"
Auntie Mollevia cooed at my tiny form and scooped me into her arms, "Hello sweetheart! I'm your Auntie! Congratulations on turning two, beautiful!!!"
I nodded my head tinily, "Thank you Auntie Mollie, I am happy you came,"
She also was astounded at my eloquence, and blushed at my adorableness, before beaming, "Ah~! She's already given me a nickname! She's adorable, Kalli!" She then cuddled me to her chest and plopped me on the ground softly, grinning at my cute silvery-blue dress and shoes. From behind her back she brought out a little silver box, which had a card tied to it. She then squatted before me and held it up to me, "Happy Birthday darling! This is our birthday gift to you for turning two!" I had placed my hands around the box as she handed it to me, and pulled the card from the string, opening it.
"Oh, maybe you should have your parents read that, sweetheart," Annenen spoke, but before Mama could say anything I read it aloud, "Dear Yunano, happy birthday! We hope you have a lovely birthday party and enjoy this gift! Love, Uncle Annenen and Auntie Mollevia. xxx"

I smiled up at them, causing them all to halt their actions, in awe at my cute smile, "Thank you Uncle Annen and Auntie Mollie!"
I could practically hear the thumps of hearts as they all blushed at my smile, minds gone blank for a moment at my breathtaking face.
I eagerly opened the box, untying the string and unwinding it, placing the pretty silver rope in my pocket for safekeeping, before flipping the lid open. Inside the box laid an adorable silver-furred plush wolf, with big black beads for eyes and an embroidered black nose. The fur went from white and the roots to silver, making the wolf's fur catch the light in an even more breathtaking way than if it were solid silver.
I pulled it from the box, and to my surprise, it had a weight to it I did not expect. It was incredibly soft, so soft that one may think that they are touching the pelt of a real wolf. The body was squishy and the paws and butt had weighted beads, making it prone to a sitting position. I pressed the plush to my face and inhaled. It smelt like pine and jasmine. This was a meticulously crafted and generally beautiful doll.
I rubbed the soft fur against my face for a little bit more, causing Mama, Papa, Uncle Annen and Auntie Mollie to chuckle at my actions.
Pulling the plush into my arms properly, and squeezing it softly, I jumped into the arms of Auntie Mollie, cuddling her.
"Thank you very much, Auntie, I love him," I mumbled, my words muffled by her shoulder.
She giggled and hugged me back, "You are very welcome, 'Nano~"
I pulled away and ran to the legs of Uncle Annen, cuddling them, "Thank you Uncle Annen, I will cherish him forever,"
Uncle Annen blushed a bit, before stammering, "Y-you're welcome, Yunano..."
I beamed and pulled away, grinning at the four adults before being interrupted by a clearing of a throat from behind me.
I span around to face the voice, and smiled at the three figures, "Hello!"
The man and the little girl blushed a little, but the woman had no visible reaction. Hm? Interesting. Not even my unrealistically adorable face can affect this woman? She must be a very angry person.
The woman smiled tightly before standing and brushing herself off, "Hm, Hello Yunano. My name is Cermania. I am your aunt,"
The man stood up, helping his daughter down from her chair, before nodding, a similar curt smile passing his features, "I am Allemon, your uncle. This is Rosetta. She is your cousin,"
Rosetta nodded, not moving her eyes from my face, a pink hue covering her cheeks, "N-Nice to m-meet you! ...Y-Yunano..." She tightened her grip on her father's hand and he glanced down at her, his brows furrowing slightly before turning back to me, "Congratulations on turning two," He reached for a pink gift that lay on the table, and passed it towards me, "We have brought a gift for you in celebration of your birthday,"
I smiled sweetly, despite his obvious rreserved attitude, and took the gift from him, "Thank you Uncle Allemon!"
His expression seemed to soften a tiny bit, but it quickly hardened once he felt his daughter tighten her grip on his hand, her face turning pinker by the second.
I smiled at her then untied the lacy ribbon, opening the box.
Inside the box lay a beautiful pink crown of preserved flowers. My eyes had widened and a bright smile stretched across my face. I turned my face up to Rosetta and grinned warmly at her, "Thank you!" I pulled the crown from the box and placed it on my head. It was a perfect fit.

I stepped forward and wrapped my arms around Allemon's shoulders, hugging him. He awkwardly petted my back, and then released me. I stepped towards his wife, Cermania, and wrapped my arms around her legs, "Thank you Auntie Cermania! I love it!" I released her and then skipped towards Rosetta, hugging her before she could jump away, which she wasn't going to.
"Thank you Cousin Rosie! It is wonderful!"
She blushed furiously and hugged me back, stammering and stuttering in an indistinguishable mess of jibberish.
I giggle at her stammering, and pulled away, holding her hands and smiling brightly, "Let's have some sweets!"
She nodded, seemingly unable to do anything else, before I dragged her towards the table and climbed onto a seat, pulling her up by the hands after me.
Behind us, I heard the adults murmuring amongst themselves.
It seems that Allemon and Cermania are not quite welcome in this household. How strange.
Oh well. I might as well have fun with their adorable little girl while I can~
I then turned to Rosetta and grinned, before getting a plate handed to me by Hanrin, a butler. I thanked Hanrin, and piled my plate with sweets, humming happily as the music played in the background.
Rosetta was nervously fidgeting next to me, and I turned to her, cocking my head to the side in curiosity, "What's wrong? Aren't you gonna have any?"
Rosetta blushed and stumbled over her words, before nodding, and grabbing her previously occupied plate. I smiled and hummed as we ate together.
I managed to get her to break out of her shell, and we exchanged childish and simple conversation over why pink is a pretty colour, before the adults sat down.
When Rosetta's mother came to grab her I stopped her by hugging Rosetta to my chest, shocking my parents with my childish action, "I want her to stay next to me..." I pouted up at Cermania, who instantly developed a faint sneer on her features.
"...Please," I finished after a pause, which caused her to lower her expression back to a neutral one. She laughed curtly, "Haha, well, you are the birthday girl. Rosetta may stay,"
I beamed happily as Cermania made her way to her seat beside her husband.
Rosetta was as red as a rose by now, and was timidly nibbling on a brown macaroon. I smiled and continued eating, and the adults conversed civilly.
Overall, the day went well.
Rosetta and I had eaten our fill and then danced together to music that my music teachers played. She was very clumsy, but it was pretty cute. After dancing the sugary energy away Rosetta was ready for a nap, so I lead her to a corner in the library where a fireplace sat with a giant pile of cushions.
A maid came and lit the fireplace, and Rosetta and I both flopped onto the cushions. She was knocked out as soon as her head hit the pillow, but I stayed up and read about flowers.
I had, unsurprisingly, fallen asleep during reading, due to my body still being very young, and I was out until I was woken up to say goodbye to Rosetta and the rest of my family.
When I had awoken, Rosetta was curled up on my chest, thumb in mouth. Sure enough, I had a wet patch on my dress which I didn't really care about, considering she was adorable.
I lightly caressed the scalp of Rosetta with my fingers, murmuring a quiet, "Rosie, wakey wakey. It's time to go,"
She grunted quietly and mumbled, "Mama, I dun' wanna..."
I'll be honest, I blushed a little at her calling me 'Mama'. Must've been my maternal instincts kicking in, but she made me want to protect her.
I giggled lightly and rubbed her head, "Rosie, you need to go, and I'm not your Mama. Your Mama is calling for you to go home now,"
Rosetta cracked her eyes open blearily and hummed in confusion, before realising where she was and blushing furiously, blinking surprisedly at my face.
I laughed and sat up, forcing her to sit up too. I helped her stand up, and smiled at the adults in the room, who were blushing, save for Cermania. Mama, Papa and Annenen had blood noses, but let's just ignore that shall we.
I led Rosetta over to her mother by her hand, and smiled at Cermania, before letting go of Rosetta's hand.
She didn't let go, though.
Rosetta simply shook her head and stated, "I want to hold your hand until I leave,"
This caused me to blush furiously, along with Papa to borderline faint and Allemon to cough, a fist over his mouth as he looked away from our adorable interaction.
I grinned and bobbed my head in a nod, "Okay!", tightening my grip on her hand once again.
Rosetta blushed and looked down at our hands then frowned concentratedly, pulling herself to be closer to me before nodding at her mother, "We're ready to go,"
I had to look away and cover my face from bursting into laughter, sucking my lips into my mouth to muffle it.
She was too cute!
I'm not leaving with you little girl!
You're going back home with your parents!!!
Anyway, we then walked down the hall hand in hand, towards the front door. She animatedly talked about how we should keep in touch, and always write to eachother about our everyday lives, and I nodded along, thinking that keeping up with a potential future friend would be beneficial to my development in society. Not at all because she was undeniably adorable, or that she was the first child I had met that was close to my body's age.
Uncle Annen and Auntie Mollie left before Cermania and Allemon. Rosie kept holding my hand, even when I was hugging Annen and Mollie. It was like she expected her parents to scoop her up and run away with her or something.
They were certainly sending glares as if they were going to.
Once the goodbyes to Uncle Annen and Auntie Mollie were finished, Rosie hugged me, blushing up a storm.
Honestly, how can a kid be this adorable?
Her eyes watered, threatening tears at any second, but she managed to keep them in, only letting her voice waver slightly, "W-we need to w-write, o-okay?" She pouted as she stared wide-eyed at me. Geez, she was acting as if we were lifelong best friends being separated by the seven seas!
I smiled, and laughed, "Okay, Rosie, I'll make sure to write to you every week! You need to do the same, too, okay?"
Rosie nodded her head comically fast, I could almost see her form blurring. Haha.
I tilted my head to the side and kissed her forehead, considering I was taller than her and giggled as she blushed a thousand shades of red, "Okay then, goodbye, Rosie! Have a safe trip!"
Rosie nodded, still muddled over the peck on her cheek, before her mother grasped her hand and pulled her out the doors.
Lol.
Rosie has a crush on me.
How cute.
Maybe when we're of age we can explore that interesting family taboo, haha.
I waved largely as their carriage moved out of eyesight, yelling, "Bye bye Rosie!!!"
Rosie called back something along the lines of, "Remember to write every week Nano!!"
I grinned as I could no longer see the carriage or hear her voice, and spun around fluidly to Mama.
"Now," I smiled smugly up at her, "Tell me about magic,"

The Heart Grows
Dungeon games? Yeah, they're a good way to waste a few hours. The trick is to know the map and plan appropriately. Of course, it doesn't matter if you get beaten. You revise your plan for that map and do a bit better next time. Man, it'd really suck to wake up as a dungeon heart in a fantasy world you know nothing about, barely able to even work out how to control your dungeon. Lucky that wouldn't happen to anybody, huh? What with only having one chance at getting things right, you'd have to plan extra-defensive. This story should be getting chapters published weekly. I have a comfortable buffer set up and on top of the weekly writing I am committing, a commissioner has donated two monthly writing slots to ensure this remains on a weekly schedule. There will be a stat block at the beginning of every chapter bar the first, and a handy map at the end. All my works come with a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. This means you are free to download, publish, and even make derivative works of my writing so long as you include this license, attribution, and don't sell the works. Keep it free!

I won't follow the rules of the throne inheritance, also the rules of the king / prince / princess has to be protected, instead I will make them wield weapons and bring them to the front lines. So I will make the kings clash their weapons against each other rather than their generals (of course I will make their general fight with them). >I have added the high fantasy tag so that you understand the world in this story has its own rules that are different from the real world. >This story includes sword fight, magic fight, barehand fight, war between kingdoms, strategy, city / castle infiltration, conspiracy, betrayal and a few chapters of romantic scenes at the beginning of the story (that looks like a boring 'fairy tale love story', but you will understand their love story actually a slow romance and full of conspiracy at the middle of story). >I'm not a pro writer, so there will be a lot of errors. >Cover by commission
