《Finley- The Lost Prince》Chapter 157: Promise

Heloise Regalis May 23th,20XX
“Your grand-nephew is in danger. Aren’t you going to interfere?”
It wasn’t any of my business what the goblin wanted to do with his breed, but perhaps I was a bit soft since he looked so much like my precious grandson.
Theodulus causally kicked an attacking witch out of his way as he walked toward me and glared away a few more, unwilling to fight them anymore.
“I don’t need you keeping tabs on him Heloise. No blood of mine would be weak enough to die from this sort of fight.”
“It's not about the strength you savage. He’s so young and inexperienced, how do you expect him to take on the ruler of the witches on his own?”
“It's because he is inexperienced that I'm leaving him alone. All he has to do is stay alive until Aies can get there. And thanks to your friend that shouldn’t be too long off.”
I was a bit embarrassed that Milo was going so openly against my orders, but it wasn’t like I hadn’t expected it. He’d always loved to annoy me in such ways, but more than that, he had an unhealthy sense of worship toward royalty that he never managed to overcome, even after knowing a true royal for so long.
He believed that being a royal meant we had unlimited strength and immortality that went beyond our lifespans. While it was flattering to be so adored, he had enabled me to get into a lot of trouble when I was younger and every time he was reproached on the matter his only reason would be that I was a royal and he had faith in me to be able to save myself.
That was why he had been evicted from the royal palace by my mother during my youth. At the time I had resented her decision and had regularly escaped the palace to learn from him but as I got older I realized exactly why my mother had made such a decision and had made sure Belpheobe had only met him once or twice.

It looked like he was doing the same with my grandson, but at least he had given him a tool to help him.
As for Mei, I knew she wouldn’t be much help in preventing Cai from going down. On one hand, I liked that she was unlikely to attempt to control my grandson but on the other hand, there wasn’t much protection she could give him with her reluctance to restrain him.
Cai was reckless, and a look at the mess Theodulus had made of his consciousness showed me how hard it was for him to control his recklessness. I understood why Theodulus had done what he’d done, but I still disliked it. I only had myself to blame in this case though, things wouldn’t have gotten so bad if I hadn’t been as reluctant to awake as I had been.
“Where is Cai right now?”
I could track him down with his magic but the rampant magic being used on the battlefield made it more difficult than usual. It would be more efficient to have Theodulus do it. Goblins had an innate ability to track down their offspring, it weakened as the offspring got older but there wouldn’t be a problem to find Cai who wasn’t even a century old yet.
The ability worked in two ways depending on the effort spent. There was a homing effect if the elder goblin causally wanted to find the offspring, and there was a clairvoyance effect, where the elder goblin could see the direct happenings around the offspring.
“Aies is with that fiancée of his. About seven minutes of flight from the battlefield. He got into a scuffle with a group of witches earlier, but his fiancée handled it.”
“Is he hurt?”
“As I said, his Fiancée handled it. He didn’t even have the chance to draw his weapon before they were defeated.”

“Well, at least she’s good for something.”
We were surrounded by witches but none of them attacked us and instead warily hung around us. I’d had fun at first but now it was as boring as squashing ants. They couldn’t resist and there was no fun in that.
I’d already shown my anger enough that they would probably enter isolation for the next few decades once we left. I could do more but it was too boring to do anymore.
I could hunt down the witch my grandson had come to save, but it seemed like he would be upset if she died. The witch was currently aiding Cai by getting involved in the current battle against Rubella so I could at least allow her to explain herself before deciding whether to kill her or not.
Votric blurred in front of us and a group of young witches, none of them aged past two decades was dropped ungracefully in front of us.
“These are all the witches that contributed to Aies’s capture. Well, all the witches that are still alive.”
I could feel my grandson’s magic on them but I could similarly smell the blood of other witches on them. It seemed like they were a part of that Sparrow’s team.
I waved my hand and trapped them into a bubble then sent them up to the sky. They would have to be dealt with later as well.
Neither I nor Theodulus was a fan of killing young children like these, but their actions did have repercussions.
“Aies has made it to the battlefield.”
We both began to move to the battlefield as well. Neither of us planned to interfere but I wanted to see just how powerful my grandson was. And more important than that I needed to get a decent grasp on his personality, and an irreplaceable part of that was seeing how he fought.
This was the last time I would let the child face danger. As long as I was alive and awake, I’d take up my useless daughter’s mantle and make sure Cai was raised as he was supposed to be.
I made that promise to myself and to Cai, although he didn’t hear it.

Cybernetic Dragon
Idea Seven, or Inter Dimensional Explorer Automaton Unit-7, has had a bit of an accident. Hijacking the egg of a dragon rather than its intended target of a bird egg, it isn't fully in control of its host brain. Rather the two, dragon and cybernetic AI interface, must work together to survive in a hostile world of magic, dungeons, beasts and adventurers. The AI must deal with being a machine from a world of science trying to carry out its mission of exploration, while the dragon, Rex, must deal with being a cyborg living with symbiotic nanotech that sets him apart from other dragons. What adventures await them? Author Note: I tagged this story GameLit because it contains concepts like levels, classes, and dungeon/beast cores. But, it isn't tagged LitRPG because no one has status screens, other than occasionally Idea Seven who likes to organize data into blue boxes. It isn't a natural function of the world to display level ups or skill ups with an announcer voice. I mention this to set expectations, because otherwise I feel like LitRPG fans might be disappointed by my lack of LitRPG elements while others might be turned off thinking I have a lot of LitRPG elements. I think that if you approach the story with an open mind you will appreciate the gradual way in which the main character learns and expands his understanding of how the world works, but the game mechanics aren't meant to take center stage to the actual story.

Daily life of a cultivation judge
Tired of those cultivators who think it is righteous to eliminate a sect or clan root and stem all in the name of revenge and avoiding future troubles, fights over treasures that end up destroying cities with no consequence whatsoever to the culprit, these psychos whose aim for the peak always involves a trail of carnage and bloodshed in its wake for some reason. Then look no further than the daily life of a cultivation judge. Yang Qing, is a young genius cultivator from a low-tier family whose only safe choice to get resources and hopefully lead an easy life led him to the courts of the Cultivation Order Society. Author’s disclaimer: Hey there this is my first novel so any criticism will be well taken though beware I’m a million-year-old monster who has cultivated the way of the sword to the peak. The daily life of a cultivation judge will be true to its name so it will be heavily on the slice of life lane with a bit of action here and there.Meaning we will see the life of Yang Qing when he clocks in and out. Hopefully, it will be one of those novels you read if you need to relax or are in a slacker mood like one of those otakus who listen to the noises of cicadas in the summer famously used in most animes. And it is in the slacker spirit that chapter release will be on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Sank yuuu Cover art by Conny Schneider on Unsplash
