《Finley- The Lost Prince》Intermission Interview: Mei

Interviewer: "Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview."
Mei: "Of course"
I: "In the spirit of the previous interviews, What is your full name?"
M: " Mei Ruan. Although I suppose ill have to take on Regalis as my last name later on."
I: " No middle name?"
M: "Only the firstborn gets to have a middle name. I would have inherited it from Jaya if I'd taken up the post of the duchess of the Ruan Duchy but I left it to Aruna."
I: "Oh. Have you ever regretted giving up the position?"
M: "Well, going from a duchess to a queen can hardly be seen as a downgrade. so no."
I: "Are you looking forward to being the queen?"
M: "Rather than looking forward to it I'd rather say I am anticipating it. Even in trying to get through the preparatory courses and familiarizing myself with the affairs of the land I realize how much work I'm getting myself into. I've never been much for paperwork and prefer being in the fields than on a desk. So the lifestyle change was a bit difficult as well."
I: "Do you perhaps regret that you seized the chance for the throne?"
M: "Seize is a bit of a strong word no? And so is regret but If I had to choose between one or the other then I would say I don't regret it. Out of all the fairies in the kingdom, it can't be denied that I'm the best fit for the role and I've never been one to shirk off responsibility that comes to me. It's also an honour to be so highly regarded by my peers I think."
I: " So no one else has attempted to contest you for the throne?"

M: "We fairies are quite lax as a people I'm afraid. No one wants to take over one of the few working roles in our society I fear. Of course, there are those with ambitions but they are... dealt with appropriately."
I: "Even without the throne I'm sure there are some that have tried for the prince's hand. how do you deal with them?"
M: "I'd love to meet anyone that dares while I'm around. I don't think I've been quite enough lately to make people forget the repercussions of crossing me."
I: "Ah. So I take it that you are quite reputable."
M: "It turned out that way. Rather than heading to formal education at the academies like my peers, I went to the military as soon as I could be separated from my father. I gained independence earlier on too and interacted with my mother's generation as well. since we were all active at the same time. I also ended up receiving a lot of pretty influential people into my squad during their mandatory military periods. There was also that thing with Jaya that made me pretty popular I guess."
I: "What is that mandatory military service anyways?"
M: "Every female fairy has to join the military for at least three years after graduating from their respective academies. We're currently in peacetime now but the two successive wars we had not even a century ago makes it hard to be comfortable."
I: "How is your father by the way?"
M: "He died along time ago I suppose. My mother couldn't bring him to the fairy world and he died before I was mature enough to visit."
I: " Is it much of the same for your sisters?"
M: "Jaya's father died during the last war I think and Aruna's father is still living fine. My mother brought him over from the witch's territory and he went with her to the border. he moved back to the duchy once Aruna was crowned duchess though. "

I: "Any siblings beside your sisters?"
M: "I remember there was one of them that my mother wanted to bring over at one point. a boy. but he didn't inherit enough fairy blood to support it. never heard of any after that but I wouldn't be surprised if I had more than a couple of brothers in the human world. My mother was.. quite active back in the day."
I: "Did Jaya have any children?"
M: " Not that I'm aware of, she wasn't officially married but I know she had more than a few affairs. I suppose if she was secretly raising a family they'll pop up at one point or the other."
I: "So, and we do have to go there. How old exactly are you?"
M: "I'm not going to answer that."
I: " ..."
M: "I think I've been cooperative enough to be able to deny one question haven't I?"
I: "O-of course. Uh, what is your favourite pastime?"
M: "At some point, I really liked fluttermoth racing but there were never enough participants to have a proper race. nowadays I tend to like fighting at the arena."
I: "I see. Favourite colour?"
*Snorts laughter*
M: "Is that a common thing to have?"
I: " Well..."
M: "Well, I've always been partial to a rich bronze I suppose, although nowadays I tend to favour gold. maybe its the influence of the royal palace."
I: "you mentioned your father had lived in the human world. Have you ever visited?"
M: "Once but the preparation took so long, and there wasn't much fun in being treated like a lower class citizen simply because I was a woman. I didn't go again."
I: "But isn't the Fairy world much of an inverted version of that?"
M: "I would like to think not. Maybe because there are always fewer males than there are females but male fairies are treated pretty well. Even in less savoury families like the Linus family, the males usually live much better lives after marriage."
I: "Ahh. As well, is there anything, in particular, that's been worrying you lately?"
M: "Well, it's quite shallow but I suppose learning of his highness's physical immaturity threw me a bit. I hadn't planned on doing anything to him anyway but I think I'll have to take a few more measures to avoid being such a direct influence on him. Some fairies have the habits of grooming their future mates but I can't say I share the hobby."
I: "But in the human world, he's technically about to be an adult. Even by normal regulations, he will be a legal adult in less than three months."
M: "Those are the human world's laws, and I'm sure that they have a good reason for making them. But for the next two, maybe three decades I don't intend on laying a hand on that boy."
I: "A bit extreme don't you think?"
M: " I don't think I could deal with myself if I couldn't even hold off for that long."
I: "And nothing could change your mind?"
M: "Well, it would take a lot to do so."
I: "Well, thank you for your time."
M: "it was a pleasure."

Runicka: Tournament of Monsters (A GameLit Card Game Fantasy)
The runes are changing, and with it, the game itself changes. Taygion Ardwella finds himself stranded, alone, and on the run from some very determined guards who claim Tay's stolen from them. They're right, but that shouldn't mean Tay has to give back what he took. He's only been in Stormwall for a week and already, he's earning the ire of the most powerful and notorious House that controls the city's underground. And when their scion challenges Tay to a duel of cards, Tay will find himself thrust into a game of sorcery and strategy as he attempts to both find a way out of this mess and find his own way in the world. To do both, he'll need to learn to accept guidance and coaching where it's sorely needed, craft a deck of unimaginable power, and not die whenever his opponents try and cheat him out of a hard-earn victory. But not all is as it seems in the shadows of Stormwall, and if Tay can figure out the importance of what it is he's stolen, he may just have a chance at saving the game of Runicka. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Runicka: Tournament of Monsters is a high fantasy, card game-based adventure novel with enough magic, worldbuilding, and characters to fill a Sanderson series. I would consider it a part of the GameLit subgenre. This series in particular is not an isekai, and will start and end in a high fantasy setting complete with its own lore and backstory. It is a progression fantasy, and I am writing it inspired by all the Yu-Gi-Oh mangas/animes, and all the hours I've invested/wasted (depending on who you ask) playing TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a work in progress. In your journey through Stormwall alongside Tay, you'll probably find typos, grammatical errors, and maybe a confusing sentence every once in a while (although I hope to keep these to a minimum). That said, comments and suggestions on where I can improve are not only encouraged but greatly appreciated. And finally, expect new chapters every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**Currently on a small hiatus. I have a bit of a workplace crisis going on. I'm still writing, but I don't have time to polish and publish. Chapters will return on a regular basis soon though!!**
