《Finley- The Lost Prince》Chapter 54: Overprotective

Jake Addams April 28th, 20XX

I awoke to a blinding pain in my chest and the sight of a man beside me, hovering glowing hands over me.

“ Who-”

They suddenly descended harshly on my chest and made me groan in pain but the pain disappeared as quickly as it came and only left behind a refreshing feeling that bounced around my chest.

The man began to speak in a low tone,

“ So we meet again, a friend of Finley”

The familiar voice completely snapped me out of the mental fog and I opened my eyes to see a man that bore a great resemblance to Finley, except for the coloring. Curly Metallic gold hair instead of straight black and green eyes instead of blue. His eyes were also slightly bigger and his lips were slightly fuller and successfully got rid of whatever little masculine charm Finn had.

but the most ridiculous change in him had to be the...wings.

They weren't extended and hung from his back down to his feet like a cape but with the way they moved so naturally around him, you could tell that they were not fake.

Gold swirls, almost like they were alive darted back and forth around the patterns of emerald and sapphire dots in them and tempted one to lose themselves in tracing them around.

I broke my sight for them and looked back up to his face.

His features made him look friendly like he could break into a smile at any moment but right now it was obvious that was the last thing he wanted to do.

“It's you...Cai was it?”

He nodded in response but then began to speak nervously and anxiously. Paired together they almost looked ...apologetic?

“ Hey, sorry about that. I genuinely thought that Ms. Sparrow was in danger……...you won't hold this against Finley will you?”

I scowled and sat up, relishing the lack of blinding pain as I moved,

“ Of course not ...but why do you care?”

He began shifting around uncomfortably and it became obvious what was going on.

The other guy was scared of Finn as well.

I began to speak slowly as I opened it out,

“ You guys live in Finn’s head...but he can lock you guys inside his head at any time...And-”

He continued in a resigned but bitter manner,

“And he can also get rid of us at any time, although he doesn't know how yet it's only a matter of time.”

“ And you don't want that.”

He scoffed,

“ Would you? Do you know what it feels like to never be able to act in your own best interest? Every move I make has to be approved by Finley first.”

“ Is he still in there? How exactly does it work?”

He pulled out a chair and took a seat beside me. It was only now that I realized I had been put atop a makeshift bed that was composed of a few blankets set atop a sewing table.

“ We...Myself and Aies-”

He suddenly grasped his head and began to groan in obvious pain, then similar to the other guy before he began to say,

“ I won't say anything! I swear! You Goblin Prick! just because you can't come out yet doesn't mean-”

He turned to me and then shook his head and said,

“ It looks like this is something that Finley will have t tell you himself.. but don't you dare ask.”

He suddenly turned extremely aggressive again at the last part and made me instinctively put my arms up in defense,

“ I won't!”

He relaxed and then began to walk out but before he left he stopped at the door and said,

“You must be extremely confused at the moment ...after all, your friend has so many secrets that he won't tell you. But know what?”

I shook my head in response and the impact of what just happened started to catch up to me,

“ No.. I feel like I don't know anything right now.”

“ I can't tell you anything or Finn will wake up but I can tell you this, He considers you as one of his valued people. So have a little faith and he’ll come to you…. it might even be sooner than you think.”

I slowly stood up, still cautious about the injury from earlier but was shocked to find that not only were they completely healed, I even felt better than before. Ordinarily, I would have questioned this but right now I could only face Cai and asked in a voice that could only be described as hurt,

“ so I should just pretend not to know about this?”

He then slowly and painfully lowered his head in a respectful pose and asked with a strained tone in his voice,

“ Please. I couldn't bear it if Finley lost a friend on our behalf, he’s gone through enough already… Goodbye Jake. I hope one day I can talk to you genuinely.”

Then he suddenly withdrew a short but thin stick and threw a sort of sparkly dust in my face. I began to cough harshly as it clogged up my lungs. As this happened he muttered a few words over me and a bright light erupted into my vision and I passed out.

My next moment of consciousness was when Sparrow entered the room once again with an armload of medical supplies and forced me back onto the makeshift bed where she began to anxiously look me over. However she soon stopped and looked over me with a confused expression,

“ I could swear that your ribs were broken not even half an hour ago...how are they already healed?”

I shrugged her hands off me and stood up. As I did so I looked around and was surprised to find myself already in Sparrow’s workshop. The last I remembered we had just arrived and were about to get out of the car. I put a hand to my head and said in as clear of a voice as I could muster.

“ What? how did I get hurt? and what time is it? I promised to babysit tonight.”

Her worried expression deepened even further and she quickly began to pack up her things and then ushered me into her car.

“ Call your mom and tell her that you'll be late because you're at the hospital.”

I finally pulled out of her grasp outside of her car and refused to get into the car with her.

“ What do you mean? I feel fine, there is no need to go to the hospital.”

She grabbed a stronghold of my wrist again, this time hard enough to hurt and said in a more serious tone than I had ever heard from her,

“ First you were slammed hard enough against the wall that your ribs were probably dislocated and now you don't even remember it happening. If that had happened to me, would you have let me brush it off and go home to where two children would be depending on me when I could pass out from shock at any minute?”

In response to my silence, she opened the door and all but shoved me into the car while I called my stepmom.

We sat in silence for a few minutes, She was silent because she was worried and angry at me for making her so and I was silent because I was confused and just genuinely didn't know what to say and her. Finally, after ten minutes of the choking silence, I started up a conversation, which was something I usually never did.

"So how did you meet Finn?”

Her stiff expression curled into an affectionate smile at the topic although worry still furrowed her brow.

“ It's a pretty funny story. I had been out the whole day but I remembered my older brother telling me about a rather big case he was working on- That was back when he was still under a smaller firm. By the time I came home, it was night time, so I didn't get to see him and ask how it went but the next morning I saw Finn walk out of my guest room dressed in my older brother’s Pj’s, which at the time were much larger than he was. Of course, you could guess what I thought had happened.”

She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively and it took me a second, but then I understood and started to laugh.

“ You mean you thought that….Finn and..”

She nodded and started laughing herself,

“ yeah! so I started yelling at my older brother and accusing him of all sorts of stuff like even if he was aligned is such a manner, how could he go after a kid. It took him And Finn a solid half-day to convince me of that nothing had happened.”

We laughed together for a while before I finally realized,

“ Wait? did Finn have something to do with the big case?”

She shrugged,

“ I don't know. Will only told me that he needed to stay with us for a few days because they were sorting out his new living arrangements for his new job.”

Ah, speaking of which.

“ Do you know where he works? or even what he does?”

She pursed her lips together then finally after a while of thought shook her head,

“ That's odd, I'm sure it's been mentioned but no I don't and Will said I couldn't investigate him. So if you wanna know then ask him.”

I shook my head,

“ I tried but he didn't answer me. but he’s always out because of it though, I was just worried it might be something dangerous.”

Because of how overprotective she was of Finn I thought this would at least draw her attention towards it but she only shrugged in response.

“ Maybe, but if he didn't want to say then you should wait till he tells you.”

I raised an eyebrow in response and went back to facing the front which for some reason made her laugh,

“ Let me guess. you figured since I was so protective of him I would want to know right?”

I sheepishly nodded,

“ Well, yeah.”

She laughed even louder and said,

“ Honestly I am worried but Will knows and if you think I'm overprotective of Finn then you would think Will was a psycho. I'm sure that he’ll be fine.”

I laughed in response, albeit awkwardly and we continued the conversation but as we did I couldn't shake off the feeling that I had forgotten something very important.
