《Finley- The Lost Prince》Chapter 33: The Sealing

Finley Cai Aies Hall April 19th, 20XX
The General sat with four guards holding her down and another 12 surrounding us in the magical circle. They were all tensed and had their staffs and wands raised at the possibility of an attack but the general stayed still in a rather lordly pose. Practically reclining into the hands of the guards that were supposed to be holding her down and watching me like I was putting on a show instead of doing preparations to seal her powers away.
There was nothing rude about her behaviour but the natural patronizing look that she would give to a male had returned. Instead of being annoyed I simply dismissed it as her being a product of her environment and upbringing. It wasn't like I would be around long enough to have to worry about it so I didn't really care.
Her bright eyes were dimmed, much as they had been two days ago in the meeting room and she was slightly tensed like she was ready to fly towards me at any second and push me down but she restrained herself. At first, I had thought that having so many guards were being over cautious but after the first successful attempt which took both Corin and Cambridge to hold her down, I realized it wasn't.
The General wasn’t really any stronger than the two especially when they fought together. But my mother had apparently gone deep with their seals and had only left them with 30% of combat power, it wasn't enough to easily deal with the general at full output.
Finally, she closed her eyes and began to breathe deeply as to not further harm any of the people attempting to restrain her.
Aside from the stress of trying not to attack me I could tell that she was still anxious at me casting the spell, seeing as the royal princes or other higher ranked clans usually never bothered to learn how to cast any spells or how to use their magic efficiently despite being able too but after a few demonstrations of other spells she had been willing to believe in me.

I had tried to find a way to loosen it but as the original enforcer of the spell had passed away all I would have been able to do would have been to temporarily remove the spell in the case that they would have to protect me.
To loosen or even remove it permanently required a level of skill higher than I possessed as well as a level of power equal to or greater than my mothers. Perhaps I could ask my grandmother once she finally awakened.
So for the General, I wanted to take it into a different direction and that was why I had taken an extra day to prepare. Even if I was good at nothing else, I had faith in my abilities to do paperwork and homework.
According to the papers in the library, a fairies magic and overall power depended on multiple facets.
There was how much magic they could sense in the air- this was magical perception and why the general had such difficulties controlling herself around me. She could simply sense the effects of the royalty much more intensely and sharply than the others could.
Next was how much magic they could draw into themselves and how much they could retain. By default, the more magic one could sense the more advantaged they were in this stage.
There was then how much magic they could push out into the spell and how long they could sustain it. people above or equal to the rank of duchess would be able to process magic and put it into a spell simultaneously. Anyone below that would have to make sure they had enough magic stored to maintain a spell for an extended period of time.
Rather than sealing off all aspects of her magic and making her operate at total 30% capacity at all times, I wanted to treat each aspect separately and make it conditional so the seals only applied as long as I was within 20 feet of her.

This way, even if she in her affected state came towards me, she would immediately regain her senses as she neared me.
At the end of the day, she would be the ruling queen of the land. To have her so weakened would be ridiculous.
“ Are you ready general? I'm about to start”
The General was currently focusing on manually restricting her magic perception and couldn't verbally respond, she instead nodded towards me and braced herself even more.
Around us, the guards stood at the ready for another violent attempt to break free.
As she had been on the battlefield for so long she had warned us that just the feeling of having a spell cast on her would trigger a violent reflex. She said that she would probably be able to restrain herself but to have the guards ready.
I took a deep breath before I started and slowly began to accumulate the magic into the room, letting the room be filled with the bright golden specks and overpower the dirty rust coloured ones and then I began the spell.
First thing I did was to knock her unconscious, after all, it would be too dangerous if she was conscious and went into shock as a result. And then I began to build upon the sphere that I was now used to making.
It was usually used to manually purify the magic in the air, but it was really just an extremely pure and solid field for processes that would be at risk when surrounded by large amounts of impure magic.
Throughout our engagement until the previous queen awoke I would have to continuously purify the General so she would be able to receive the queen's lineage and be able to at least give birth to the next royal.
I quickly refocused my thoughts away from what else was required in the process of creating a child and began to take apart her magic system.
The system was so delicate that even the slightest slip up could result in me crippling her.
