《Children of the Sun》Chapter 7 : Looking for contribution points

Abi hurried to a teleporter which was the only way to get to the spirit realm. She had not been so excited for a long time. Although, she displayed a calm expression on the surface, deep down her heart was beating fast. How many years had it been since she had left home? She had not the exact count but she felt that it was so long ago. Even if she suspected that everyone she knew was probably dead already, it didn’t lower her feeling that Earth was still her home. She wanted to go back home and this desire was the only driving force of her life. Right now, she had maybe found the key to return to Earth.
It didn’t take her long to find a teleporter. It was a stone monolith entirely black which surface was covered with magic symbols. There were hundreds of teleporters spread over the entire academy. They constituted a convenient means of transport, allowing anyone to travel to distant lands in the blink of an eye. When Abi arrived beside the teleporter, she laid a hand on its surface which began to glow faintly. A screen appeared in her mind, displaying a set of destination. After studying the screen, she withdrew her hand and frowned.
“Damn! Where the hell could I find one thousand contribution points? I have only ten in my account right now.” She thought with frustration. Although, she recalled that traveling in the spirit realm would cost a lot, she would never imagined it would be so expensive. Growling, she took a road which lead her toward the guild association. If one wanted to earn many contribution points, there was nothing better than missions given by the guilds. The guild association gathered the missions given by all of its members and displayed them in guild association building. After entering the door, Abi didn’t waste time and walked immediately towards the golden wall.
It was named golden because of the countless symbols covered it. Each symbol represented a specific mission any student could choose. Many people were flocking near the wall and she had to jostle a few to make her way. Soon after, she sensed that someone or something was scanning her with divine sense. After the divine sense withdrew, she saw some of the symbols covering the wall lighting up which caused a screen to pop up in her mind. The screen was displaying more than twenty missions but one counted the symbols of the wall, twenty was just a tiny fraction of them. Abi read the screen till the end and cursed inwardly.
Those missions were worthless! They all had one thing in common and it was to gather herbs. Herb gathering was the easiest type of mission given by the guilds. Of course, as they were easy, the rewards were pitifully low. The highest was 20 contribution points for gathering hundred stalks of moon eater grass. If she relied on missions like that, it would take forever to gather 1000 contribution points. She was now sure that the wall had scanned her with divine sense previously do determine her cultivation level. It had afterward given her the only missions she was qualified to take. One should not underestimate the herb gathering missions as those herbs were located in dangerous areas. As a level-5 mage, she was barely qualified to gather herbs.
“Shitty wall!” Abi could only curse inwardly. She stepped out of the guild association and headed towards the only solution she had left, the battle arena.
It resembled a roman coliseum but several times bigger and with a large dome covering it. It was entirely made with brown volcanic rock. Human statues decorated its outline at regular interval which only added to its splendour. Abi didn’t pay attention to the architecture though as she was too frustrated. She needed a huge amount of contribution points but her cultivation level had become an obstacle. Hence, she could only fight in the battle arena.

Mages loved to fight, some of them could even be considered as battle maniacs. However, it was forbidden to fight in the academy area and the battle arena was the only place where fighting was authorized. That made it the most famous building in the entire academy. If one wanted to sharpen one’s magic, one had to fight someone stronger than oneself. The battle arena was the place where students could issue challenge against one another. However, Abi was more interested with the competitions the academy organized there regularly. Most of the time, the winner would be rewarded with contribution points.
After entering the building, she crossed a large crowded room. All of those students were overexcited and were discussing feverously.
“Who do you think you will win this time? I heard that Jeremia is the favourite.” A burly man was asking his friend.
“Hmm... Jeremia is strong, true; he is ranked 587 while Nolan is ranked 640. But Nolan should be the winner. Don’t forget his last fight; he was on the verge of reaching level 11. Jeremia will have difficulty to beat him.” His friend said.
“It’s not necessarily true. Maybe Nolan had a higher cultivation level but Jeremia is a noble. Those bastards always possess better spells. They should be evenly matched. But I will bet on Nolan.” The burly man countered. He was determined to bet 20 contribution points on Nolan but wanted to hear his friend’s opinion first.
Abi retracted her gaze before pursing her lips. For her, who was stronger and who was weaker was pure nonsense. One’s battle power was mainly determined one’s spell set which could be terribly effective again an opponent and completely useless against another one. According to her experience earned through countless life and death battle, Abi had arrived at a conclusion. Victory was sure to be attained through overwhelming speed and overwhelming force. Be fast so that the enemy had no time to react and be strong so that the enemy’s defences couldn’t stop you. Apparently, those youngsters hadn’t comprehended that yet. They had even created a ranking among themselves to identify who was stronger than whom.
Abi explored the battle arena, searching for a competition to participate in. Her exploration lead her in front of red wooden door which she opened without hesitation. She crossed the door which opened into a circular room twenty meters wide. Dozens of stone columns circled the room and supported the ceiling. The latter was decorated with magnificent frescos describing a ferocious battle between Altaïans and magical beasts. The stone walls were equally decorated with stone carvings which were so lifelike that they made one feel nervous. The magical beasts carved on the walls were looking fierce and threatening. It was as if they thirsted for blood.
A young man was sitting in the middle of the room, wearing a bored expression. His legs were placed on the desk in front of him as he was watching a screen hovering in mid-air. Although, he sensed that someone was coming, he didn’t even bother to look at the newcomer before talking.
“Registration will end in 5 minutes. You better hurry up if you want to participate.”
He was too bored to bother with a latecomer and preferred to watch a fight on his screen. The fight was not very good as the opponents were fighting like weaklings which explained his boredoom. It was so boring that he young man wanted to enter the screen and beat them up. If only he had a subscription to the national league. As a poor third-year student, he couldn’t afford it. He sighed dejectedly as he thought that this job was worthless. He would have preferred to take a mission in the mountain range but he didn’t have enough contribution points to exchange for equipment. Thus, he had volunteered for this worthless job and would have never done if it did not pay so much. Guarding the entrance of the blood arena was not a very exciting job.

As he was still lost in thought, the latecomer arrived in front of his desk. He paused the fight reluctantly and yawned. The moment he lifted his gaze upward, he froze. He almost choked and lost his nonchalant air. How could he not be surprised? This was not some random girls. As the only daughter of the Lightning Clan younger generation, she was extremely famous. Although, she had a poor reputation, few people had the guts to treat her too badly. And the young man was no exception.
He calmed down after a moment before wondering what business Abigaël Lightning had with the battle arena. How can the number one trash in the Royal Academy of Magic be here? She had never done anything in here before. He knew it because all that happened here was recorded and available for public consultation. Someone as famous as Abi would have attracted a lot of attention. If she was in this specific room, it meant she wanted to go to the blood arena which was a ridiculous thought. With her strength, she wouldn’t last ten seconds. The young man was truly puzzled and froze there, lost in thought. After a long time, he finally began talking.
“Are you sure you want to register?” He asked suspiciously.
“Yes, I’m sure.” Abi nodded, understanding what he was intending to tell. A normal level 5 mage had no place in the blood arena. The battle arena was divided into several individual arenas with different entrances. Some were more difficult than others and the blood arena was one of the most difficult.
“Hum …” The young man frowned while touching his screen. After quick manipulations, he said.
“Sorry, you’re not qualified to enter. You can pass if you are ranked 1000 or lower. But right now, your rank is just 5000.” He wore a false apologetic expression while saying this. However, it was difficult to conceal the hint of disdain in his eyes. He thought that the world was unfair. With his talent, he could be considered as a genius among geniuses but he had still struggled to get a spot in the academy. Abi, though, had reached the same goal using her background. How could he feel happy about it?
Abi’s expression remained calm but she was furious inside. This time she was not blocked because of her low cultivation level but because of her ranking. Apparently, your rank determined your qualification to enter certain arena and as one of the most difficult arena, the requirement for the blood arena was severe. Being ranked at 5000 meant that she was at the bottom of the first-year ranking as only 5000 students entered the academy each year. It was a shame. Nor caring about the ranking didn’t mean she liked to be ranked so low. Back on Earth, she had been one of the best young researchers of her field of study. She had even earned several prestigious awards. After leaving Earth she hadn’t take long to become one of the most powerful mage in existence. How could she bear to be at the end of any ranking? It was a complete heresy!
She had to do something about this ranking later. She suspected that she couldn’t earn many contribution points if her rank was too low. Right now, though, she absolutely needed to enter the blood arena. Winning there would bring her hundred contribution points. Somehow, she must convince the bastard to let her pass.
“Are you sure we can’t find a common ground? If you let me enter … I can pay you with contribution points after I win. I’ll give you half of my gain. What do you say?” Abi began to negotiate but she was aware that her deal was difficult to accept. However, she had no other option as she had nothing with which bribe him. And she would never force someone to do what they didn’t want to do, it was bad for her karma. Of course, the guy didn’t budge. How could he believe her? According to her aura, she was just level 5. She would be slaughtered in the blood arena. She had no chance to win the competition. The young man sneered inwardly while displaying a neutral expression on his face.
“He He. Sorry Miss Abigaël but you are not qualified. If I let you enter, you wouldn’t survive ten seconds. It is best if you train several years before coming back.” His last sentence was meant make her understand how weak she was.
“What a pity. She is so beautiful but had zero talent. What a waste. Her place is not in the academy at all.” His thoughts were not flattering for Abi. Only the strong were respected and the weak were despised. He thought that her only talent was her beauty. She was nearly 1,90 m tall, almost as tall as him. Her silhouette was flawless as well as her face. Her golden hair was flickering because of the ambient light which an incredible sight. The young man had the impression that he was facing a goddess from the celestial realm. The best part of her was her chest which made him gulped a mouthful of saliva. Those breasts were massive! They were so big that her dress was struggling to stop them for escaping..
His gaze didn’t remain unnoticed as Abi was watching him the whole time. When she saw his greedy eyes on her chest, she suddenly got an idea. It was the kind of idea a daughter of a high noble clan would never think about. However, there were just few minutes before the start of the competition and she had no time to waste. In her rational mind, everything was simple. She wanted to find Earth but she needed to explore the spirit realm for that. Exploring the spirit realm required contribution points which she could only obtain quickly through the blood arena. Thus, she must enter the blood arena, no matter the cost. It seemed that she had to use underhanded methods to get what she wanted.
Abi approached the young man decisively and, before he could react, sat down quickly on his laps. The movement caught him off guard and startled him so much that he froze on the spot. As Abi was wearing a light dress with a fine fabric, all her perfect curves could be seen. The dress had also two large slits on each side which ended only at the level of her hips. That let her legs entirely free to wander around. She took advantage of that to encircle him with her long legs. Trapped and amazed, he didn’t utter a single sound as she leaned forward and whispered in his ears.
“They are big, aren’t they? If you let me pass, I’ll let you play with them for a few moments.” She said while embracing him and kissing his neck which finally woke him up.
